  1. Yes I think they are supposed to be alive as well. I've not got a problem with lego doing this as I'm sure the vast majority of kids would rather have explorers discovering long lost creatures rather than a load of dead decaying animals. And actually maybe it's not as unrealistic as it first sounds. There are often stories in the media about scientists trying to find a perfectly preserved mammoth, in hopes that it could be cloned and brought back from extinction. So although this is obviously not quite the same scenario that we are seeing in these new sets, I think this is clearly where lego have got their inspiration from. It just seems to be a bit far fetched compared to what we'd usually see in lego city. I understand that they're trying to do something a bit different though rather than just doing a straight repeat of the last arctic subtheme.
  2. How on earth could someone have got hold of this set already and be selling it on ebay? I can only assume it must be a lego employee or someone who has got hold of a copy that has been sent out early by lego for websites to review or something like that.
  3. These arctic sets are clearly inspired by the reports we see of scientists finding the frozen mummified remains of mammoths in places like siberia. Obviously they've given these sets a fantasy lego spin and introduced animals like sabre tooth cats that didn't live in arctic regions. I'm curious to know though, are the animals in these sets supposed to be dead and mummified or have they pushed the fantasy element to the maximum and come up with a story that the animals are sort of resurrected as soon as they get thawed out? Apart from being incased in ice they look to be in pretty good nick to me. Anyway I'm sure kids would love a jurassic park style story with resurrected ice age beasts, but personally I think this is a bit out of place for lego city and is a bit too fantastical. Having said this I do like the look of most of the vehicles in these sets.
  4. Yes the new design is much bigger than my first effort. If anything I'd say I might have made this new moc a bit too big actually. On my original post there is a pic of it next to greengrocer and I'm not sure if it looks a bit too tall. It would obviously look even taller if it was placed beside some of the more recent smaller modulars like Parisian restaurant or brick bank.
  5. Welcome to eurobricks @Pizzatogo I would go for Parisian restaurant if I was you. Of the sets that are currently available I think this one would give the most variety compared to your existing buildings. Not to mention the fact it is one of the best modulars ever.
  6. @paupadros @fordtruckin @AFOLguy1970 @LegoModularFan @Digger of Bricks @beverly888 @Littleworlds @LEGO Train 12 Volts Many thanks for all your kind comments, I really appreciate it and glad you like the model. I had a lot of fun putting this one together. Thanks very much! Unfortunately I doubt lego will ever release an official modular based on a pub, the pool hall in DO is probably the closest we'll get. So this MOC was my interpretation of what I think a pub would look like if lego ever did release one. I've tried my hardest to make it fit in with existing modulars and tried to follow the general template and include little features that we often see in official modulars like flowers in front of the windows, striped awning and a similar style of roofline. I would definitely love to build this model for real. It did turn out bigger than I had originally planned though so I will have to see how feasible it would be to buy all the bricks and how much it would cost. Thanks. Actually this is my second MOC though. My first design was this one. Once again thanks everyone for your comments.
  7. Which sets have been cancelled?
  8. Yes, I think the yacht is probably the star of the show with this summers creator sets. All 3 builds look great. So the only set we're still waiting on official images for is the pirate themed tree house. I'm interested to get a better view of the alternate builds for that one.
  9. The ice cutter land vehicle in that set looks great. Not keen on all the exposed studs on top of the plane' s wings though.
  10. I agree with you about the stairs on the Candy Shop. Right from when the first image was leaked I felt that these stairs looked a bit awkward and out of place. Not to mention the fact they don't really seem to lead to anything of interest on the top of the building either. However on one of the new images showing the back of the box there is an alternate shot of the model from a different angle and I must say it looks much better. It also looks as if there is a bit of nice detailing on the inside as well.
  11. Hi everyone I'd like to share with you my second MOC which I have been working on over the past few weeks. For this project I decided to tackle a subject very close to my heart - the Great British Pub! So without further ado... Grab yourself a pint and join me for a guided tour of The Queen Bricktoria! As you can see this is a modular style corner building with 3 floors built on a 32x32 base plate. The design is intended to be reminiscent of British town centre pubs or more specifically the style of pubs we'd see in London. The Minifigures There are 7 minifigs with the model. The 3 characters below are the pub workers. From left to right we have the Owner/Landlord and his daughter the barmaid. The guy with the guitar is a local singer who has been booked to play a gig at the pub. The 4 figures below are the pub regulars. The guy with the beard is the typical sort of old gent we find in many pubs propping up the bar and boring everyone to death with their stories of the good old days. The guy in the green top and the girl are boyfriend and girlfriend. Level 1 - The Bar Outside the building we have a busy street corner. I've included an iconic British red phone box and an outside covered seating area. There is also a sign board advertising events etc at the pub. The main entrance leads us in to the bar/lounge area. Inside we have a well stocked bar and a cozy fireplace. There are also tables and bar stool for the minifigs to sit and enjoy their drinks. Brown carrots make pretty good beer pump handles. At the back of the bar is a staircase leading us up to level 2. Level 2 - Pool and Darts Room On the second level is a games room featuring a Pool table and Dart board. There is also a pool cue rack and a shelf with trophies won by the resident darts team. At the back of the room is another staircase that leads to level 3. Level 3 - Live Music Room Level 3 has a stage for Live Music gigs and Karaoke. On the stage we have a keyboard, guitar, amps and microphone. Also on this level is more seating for the minifigs and a door that leads to a small balcony seating area. Oh dear!!! The singer seems to be a bit of a hit with the ladies. The Finished Model Here is a picture of the Queen Bricktoria next to my first MOC design, The Convenience store, as you can see my new MOC is much much bigger. Another picture below shows the pub next to one of the official modulars, to help give a sense of the size of the model. Thanks very much for reading and I hope you like my newest MOC. There are more pictures of it on my Flickr page so feel free to check them out and let me know what you think.
  12. Check out thebrickfan.com. He has added high res pics of loads of new summer 2018 sets including all the creator sets. I assume these are no longer classed as leaks then?
  13. I agree with this statement. There are so many great builders out and at first I wondered whether it was worth having a go at designing my own mocs as I didn't think they could live up to the standard of other people's fantastic work. In the end that really doesn't matter at all though. The only important thing is that you enjoy the process of designing and building the model, which I certainly did.
  14. I think the rollercoaster probably won't be the most attractive lego set ever made. It looks as if it will have quite a messy tangled appearance. That's exactly how a rollercoaster should look though. Despite this I reckon it will be a real fun thing to build and it will look so cool with the trucks whizzing around the track. I'm getting more and more exited for the official reveal. Every time I see that a new post has been added to this topic, I am on here like a flash to see if it is the official announcement.
  15. I know what you mean. That is a great MOC. I like it because even though it is a very unique style, it just looks so professionally designed that I don't think it would look out of place with the official modulars. I know that sounds strange as the style is so different but that's how I feel about it anyway.
  16. A better quality image of the Pirate Rollercoaster has leaked online. It's now possible to get a better idea of what's included. There is a cannon and several other elements that should please classic pirate fans.
  17. Great, I've found them now. Many thanks! I can see more details in the Pirate Coaster now and although it's much smaller than the Creator expert set I bet they will still go together pretty well. It has a classic style Pirate cannon and several other elements that should please classic Pirate fans. I notice there is also a higher res picture of the Candy/Pastry store as well.
  18. That looks pretty neat how they've given the awnings a curved effect above the windows. I have a question for you @LegoModularFan. You must have looked at literally hundreds of MOCs whilst researching for this topic. If you had to choose just one, which would you say is your absolute favourite MOC of all time? And would you say your favourite Modular building is a MOC creation or one of the official Lego Modulars?
  19. Wow!!! This looks a seriously stunning layout. Really great work!
  20. I'm struggling to find these new pictures. Are they clear enough to tell any details about the alternate builds of the Pirate Rollercoaster?
  21. Thanks very much. Thanks. The simplest way I've found to stop them sliding about is just to use a small amount of masking tape on the back of each one. But yes, that's a good idea to cut holes in the corners and hold them together with bricks like in that official playmat set. Actually looking at that picture you posted has given me an idea. On the city playmat set, the roads have got grass and bushes at the sides of the road. I might have a go at setting up some new designs with similar features.
  22. The pirate one is easy to find online. I've just done a Google image search and it pops straight up. They're not new images though, just the one that was leaked a couple of months ago.
  23. I think that's probably about right. Other Creator Expert sets including the winter village station, Downtown Diner and Taj Mahal were also all announced within the last few days of the month as well. I reckon the official reveal will be during next week some time but most likely as you suggest around the 26th or 27th.
  24. If you're struggling with filling awkward gaps in your layout then you could always scrap the base plates altogether and instead use my method of creating base plates from card. It might not be the best option for purists but at least you can make the plates, roads or whatever exactly the size you want them to be.
