LEGO Collectable Minifigures Future Series Rumours
Digger of Bricks replied to r4-g9's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Nope, there is still a movie staring Steve Carell slatted for May 2019 to be produced by Warner Animation Group, the same studio responsible for the Lego Cinematic Universe. IMDb - Minecraft (2019) -
Jurassic World 2018 - Rumors and Discussion
Digger of Bricks replied to Robert8's topic in LEGO Licensed
What the... Well, though I was never expecting that to happen this soon, classic Jurassic Park set(s) seemed inevitable, given how many Ideas projects have been submitted for such a thing. Oh, and the figures, yeah, I'm pretty sure too myself that they are legit. So, what do you guys think their set will be?- 1,290 replies

Future LEGO Pirates Set Speculation
Digger of Bricks replied to David Thomsen's topic in LEGO Pirates
Here's another idea, how about a Pirates theme with a Treasure Island like storyline, where the pirates are the theme's antagonists, and its protagonists are a group of young, adventurous stowaways? Kind of like this movie? -
Future LEGO Pirates Set Speculation
Digger of Bricks replied to David Thomsen's topic in LEGO Pirates
Well, why can't we see a Pirates theme that at least has a light fantasy element to it, particularly pertaining to the theme's adversaries? I'm not necessarily suggesting that the next Pirates theme be an all out Space theme, only that it would introduce never-before-seen supernatural elements like antagonistic ghost/undead rival pirates, for instance. But hey, rival pirates in general have never been seen in a in-house Pirates theme before, so they don't necessarily have to be "undead". I know we've seen elements like that before in POTC, but it would interesting to see an in-house take on that plotline, as opposed to rehashing the usual pirates verses the imperial navy premise. -
Come on, you must know that the majority of people who are clamouring for "Classic" sets aren't asking for complete remakes or throwbacks to those lines, only for the return of those archetypical themes in a broad sense. Irrespective of various individuals opinions about specific past subthemes of those lines (Galaxy Squad, Kingdoms, 2015 Pirates, etc.), most I'm pretty sure are simply wishing for new iterations to add on to those lines' legacy.

Marvel Superheroes 2018 - Set Discussion
Digger of Bricks replied to Captain Nemo's topic in LEGO Licensed
Not bad! It's a pretty clean and near studless build, and from what I can see, it looks like there are a lot of those new 2×2 tiles with a cut out corner utilized on the build's exterior in various places (the ones first seen in some of this year's Speed Champions sets). Just goes to show, if one is hesitant to submit a project on the grounds that they believe it will clash with a preexisting license or it's too redundant, they should just go ahead anyway.- 3,962 replies

LEGO Ninjago 2018
Digger of Bricks replied to Peppermint_M's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
It's not a bad set, but not exactly a great set, at least compared to the Ninjago City modular. But seriously, did we really need this set, and does Lego expect it to do well this long after the movie's release? With the Joker Manor, at least that set was released just before Christmas, when pretty much any and every movie released during that year is still relevant concerning toys and merchandise. If TLNM can get a second D2C, why couldn't TLBM get a second one too?- 2,384 replies

LEGO Nexo Knights 2018
Digger of Bricks replied to Peppermint_M's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
I do hope that we see a Space theme (or any sort of Action theme) that ends up using the class of parts that Nexo Knights introduced to us in such a widespread and prevalent fashion. Those parts were one of the best things to come out of the theme.- 1,601 replies

At the time, he certainly loved to use that old Paradisa quarter dome part for many of his spacecraft. Other creations of his that utilized it included his Hoplab Mk-II and some older Pre-Classic Space themed spaceships. It's certainly great that the part is making its return for the Ideas Ship in a Bottle set. Dang, I forgot about that one! Certainly, if you think so! I was only asking since some may consider those genres more fitting for Lego's Action/Adventure themed discussions here on Eurobricks. Particularly, when it comes to creations built within those genres, one of the best and most prolific builders of Retrofuturistic vehicular craft is Vincent Gachod (a.k.a. Vince_Toulouse). While not all of his work may fall into that description, for the most part, all his creations showcase beautiful and striking "nice part usage". Flickr - The Work of Vincent Gachod Oh, and here's his latest creation by the way.

Hey, totally excellent topic @danth!!! It's cool that you should bring up Chris Giddens (a.k.a. Fazoom), as he at the time was a pretty prolific builder of Retro Rocketcraft. No one since then has built as many rocketcraft creations as he did. My favorite one is his Fazoom-O-Craft, which is still the swoopiest looking rocketcraft creation I have ever seen! By the way, is discussion of Steampunk/Dieselpunk/Atompunk/Sky-Fi/Retrofuturistic-type creations allowed here too?

So elegantly compact! One little touch I really like are the usage of the Light Bluish Grey clips portraying its exhaust piping.

I know, I know, I myself am more inclined towards in-house themes over licensed ones. But, for the sake of speculation, specific licensed franchises can offer something for fans in terms of both parts and minifigures, so hence my question. Besides, an honest-to-goodness Castle theme will come sooner than an in-house Space theme seemingly ever will, thanks to you-know-who and company. That's true, as that theme did nearly border on a level of grimness that slightly resembled LOTR, but perhaps with a bit more optimism. Heck, speaking of HTTYD, even Lego's own Viking theme had a rather gritty aesthetic come to think of it!

LEGO Nexo Knights 2018
Digger of Bricks replied to Peppermint_M's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
Hey, why not a theme that is both of those things? Lego could still do a "big bang" theme down the line that is medieval in its inspirations, with a complex storyline, tie-in media, and such. The only difference though, is that it would aesthetically take more after Castle instead of Space.- 1,601 replies

Here's a rather bonkers idea, what if the Ninjago theme introduced an adversary with medieval European design influences? For that matter, why couldn't the theme give us allies and/or antagonists inspired after other ancient/medieval cultures besides oriental ones? Besides HTTYD, what other currently relevant animated TV/movie franchises could you see making for some useful licensed themes that would be of interest to Historical AFOLs? The one thing that can be useful about some licensed franchises, is that they can offer sets and minifigures that are darker and more realistic in their aesthetics compared to what would usually be offered from an in-house theme focused upon the same historical period (Disney's POTC and The Lone Ranger, for instance).

Well, for me at least, what Beau's work lacks in color and shapeliness he makes up for in unique vehicular concepts (his Railpunk Railships are a prime example of this). Compared to the work of others I mentioned like Jon and Vince, Beau's creations are drab in color and have a lot of exposed studs; but, I think that look is intentional on his part, since to me it seems to evoke the look of sets from Lego's Adventurers theme.

LEGO Nexo Knights 2018
Digger of Bricks replied to Peppermint_M's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
Ah well, I think it lived a fairly through life, whereas Chima kind of awkwardly stretched out that Fire Vs. Ice saga for its last three waves. It still is my favorite of the three recent "big bang" themes, but only from a aesthetic standpoint, as I never really get too deep into the tie-in mythology of these themes. I do though eagerly anticipate whatever may be in store for the next big one, if Lego does indeed have a successor ready in line for next year. Come on though, can't we also have some more smaller scaled in-house themes, please Lego?- 1,601 replies

Yes, that's true. The only thing is, would a broad DreamWorks license clash with what relationship TLG has with Disney/Pixar? The way I feel about most themes, I usually prefer it when Lego consolidates smaller franchises/themes under one large umbrella theme, something that would be cool to see done for both Disney and DreamWorks. But, instead, perhaps Lego would instead take it one movie/franchise at a time?
-
Optimally, I'd hope that the figures would feature both normal heads/hairpieces (as opposed to specialized molds) and normal eyes (nothing stylized). As for the dragons, I'd preferably want to see them brick built, just as long as they were good constructs. Besides, do you think Lego will ever attempt another in-house Vikings theme? How to Train Your Dragon might be the best we could ever hope for currently.
-
Does anyone think Lego will ever consider picking up the license for DreamWorks' How to Train Your Dragon, perhaps by the time the franchise's final film releases in 2019? You see, I think it's not that out-of-the-question, as the third movie will be distributed by Universal Pictures, unlike the last two which were instead distributed by 20th Century Fox. Also, it was rumored a little while ago that the franchise was being considered for the third year of Lego Dimensions, suggesting a partnership could (or can) have been easily within reach for TLG. Such a licensed theme just may be of interest to fans of historical themes, giving us some fair, passable Viking themed sets. If you put it this way, the theme could be to Lego's 2005 Vikings theme what the 2013 Lone Ranger theme was to Lego's 1996 Western theme.

Is that Duplo train motorized? Or are those tiles just for a color coded sound brick?
