  1. Thanks Elysiumfountain! It can be challenging to show the layout of modulars, I did remove some walls for some of the photos but others are quite difficult to remove if 'properly' overlapping the bricks and the kitchen is a rather small space compared to try and capture. Glad it wasn't too confusing and thank you very much for the compliments. Thanks Jody Meyer! Thanks you Snaillad. Yeah as I mentioned earlier its first physical build with real bricks after LDD was a bit drab but after some tweaking I'm glad you like the final result which took a fair amount of time. Thank you very much. Thank you very much Withacee! Yeah the ground floor has a lot of emphasis being a bed and breakfast with what would have similar and somewhat repetitive bedrooms, so lots of detail is concentrated on the first floor being where the guests and owners would spend a fair amount of time. Thanks for the generous compliments.
  2. Lego sets are mass-produced consumer products that anyone with the right amount of money can purchase, its pretty much the opposite of special. If you want special then MOC.
  3. Ok thats a more clear stance. As is evident from the responses the 'reselling'/scalping of Lego for more than MSRP is a topic that generates a lot of intensity. I stand with you in the desire for more affordability. Regarding Fire Brigade another option to consider that some have done; playing around with the design with the free and fully-built Lego Digital Designer file for Fire Brigade and doing some minor part or color changes as a number of modular building enthusiasts have been able to piece-together and build the retired sets very affordably this way. Some of the pieces in the modular line are in such high demand that a minor color or part change can dramatically reduce the cost. A simple change from Sand Green to Olive Green and changing the color of the side and rear walls for Green Grocer for example maintains the look of the building and lowers the cost while also creating a completely one-off personal version. Thats a great point about taking on the knockoffs. Even if its not and Lego is just releasing it again for whatever reason, it is a good thing for Lego and Lego builders.
  4. As a true builder I hope they re-release everything. Lego is a for-profit company that is in the business of making money, if there is a demand and profit margin they should absolutely re-release old sets and not give any thought to the scalpers. Lego is about building. Its a children's building toy not financial investment assets and liability is part of financial investing, no tears shed for the scalpers. And yet: You still seem sympathetic towards the scalpers. Who cares about their "dreams" and shelf space? Seriously? Here's the other side. Someone was saving up for those sets while they were still available, someone that couldn't afford them all at once like the scalpers can. Then Lego announces the retirement of that set that, that unlucky Lego builder never saved up enough to get it while all the scalpers at the very moment of 'retiring soon' announcement bought up as many as they could, swallowing, consuming and hoarding them all in hopes of turning a profit off of someone else who just wanted to build. Disgusting. I hope they re-release everything and bring the secondary slimy scalper market down on all of their heads.
  5. That is an awesome -ism, has it been used before or did you come up with it? I agree, there has been a lot of 'AFOLism' lately; adults imposing their desires via critique on sets that are for children. These sets aren't made for AFOL, the boxes are clearly marked ages 5-12 and any features one doesn't like are easily removed and changed because its Lego. This is the type of police 4x4 Lego offered when I was a kid. If I was a child today I would be ecstatic about 60172, I would be less ecstatic about inheriting the world's insane problems that all the adults have left in their wake while they simultaneously question an entire generation's imagination, but I would be excited about the direction of Lego if I were a kid. Old and busted (1992): New hotness: Regarding nets on police vehicles: "'[This] concept is absolutely fantastic,' Lon Bartel, the President of the Peoria Police Officers Association, told Fox 10. 'If that thing holds up the way it appears it's going to [be a] huge advantage for law enforcement.'" http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3907694/The-Grappler-invention-help-police-safely-stop-high-speed-chases-revealed-Arizona-inventor-Leonard-Stock.html
  6. That is awesome!! I can't wait for this one. A few more days until they're all sold out and then another couple months wait seems like a good guess.
  7. I agree with what Littleworlds said, also not interested in specific seasonal themes, especially ones that cater to one specific group.
  8. Very well done, what an excellent scene. You captured the unique look of the old Volvos perfectly. The Lego brick and Volvos old designs were practically made for each other, but not necessarily aerodynamic efficiency . I also like the extra detail of making the appearance of the town in the distance. Great MOC.
  9. Be sure to check out Swisstony's as well, non-corner building and standard 32x32 footprint: Yeah there are a couple of illustrations showing the elements of the AS rehash mashup:
  10. The Lego Ninjago Movie Minifigures decided to throw their own party, for some reason the regular CMF still showed up demanding they be let in (they weren't).
  11. Very lovely! 8-wide is particularly challenging because the doors and some window frames take up 4-studs by themselves and after the walls there's only 6-wide for an interior but you pulled it off very nicely. I too would like to see more MOC modulars utilizing the odd 8x32 plate. Great work Sollx. The somewhat strange baseplate:
  12. It will also be easier for your fans of your work to come to a central De-Marco's Vehicles thread (or whatever you would like to call it) to see all the builds together and follow the progress since you work so smoothly and consistently. No worries at all and if others disagree then the method can stay how it is. You have a great skill in creating multiple new builds every day which is very unique and remarkable.
  13. Great review and photography. Until now I never noticed the female kick boxer CMF had a mouth guard.
  14. That is offensively outrageous. One could buy two with sales tax included here and still have money left over for a cheeseburger dinner ($24.99x2=49.98x.0925=4.6+49.98=$54.60). Really unfair.
  15. Since you make two threads a day have you considered making one centralized thread and updating that regularly instead. As is stands your topics constitute 44 out of the possible 125 threads for the first 5-pages of the Town forum, 35% of all the possible thread space.
  16. I've always liked these kinds of hyper-realistic city buildings and this fantastic. Great atmosphere even if the minifigures of this part of town seem to be lacking in life-opportunities. Time for city and community leaders to step in and ponder some ideas for the cityfigures in this area of town.
  17. Thanks Littleworlds! Such kind praise, I'm very moved. I’m glad you like it throughout and its good to hear the character development and energetic atmosphere shines through. Thanks!! Thanks Peedeejay. I always appreciate your modular expert input and thoughts and am relieved the extra photographic setup effort paid off. Thank you! Thank you very much Wesley D. You do me too much honor. I agree with you about the coloring, in fact there were moments of doubt in the build. It was first designed in LDD and when I finally assembled it in bricks it was a tad bleak and lacking that cheerfulness and took quite some time experimenting with the entire frontage to finally come to a more complete and friendly building. I’m really happy you like the final result. Many thanks! Thanks Lightningtiger! It will always be humbling when the well known modular enthusiasts and builders are fond of one’s own designs, thank you. Thanks Lego Train 12 Volts! It was pretty bare bones inside when first designed and took quite a while to achieve the level of interior detail. I’m honored you like it. Thanks. Thank you Palixa And The Bricks! A lot of the modular love is the simple attractiveness of more realistic city buildings but I’m thrilled you like the stories behind the characters as you’ve noted it brings another element to the appeal. Thank you so much! Thanks Carebear! Much love as always! Thanks AFOLguy1970! Thank you very much Eliza! Yeah I’ve come to realize the importance of having minifigures in the build and throughout the presentation. I tried so many combinations of figures I’m really honored you like the results as I am also very fond of your amazing modular skill. Thanks!
  18. Incredible review, this must have been a lot of work to put together (no pun intended, I'm speaking of the review not the set ) and you've provided fantastic photography of the process. Even though I could never afford it or have room for it seeing it in various build stages and all of your build input is awesome. I saw it in the Lego Store and thought 'wow, the Star Wars fans sure are lucky'. I also love that they included the infamous parsec quote. Great work on this review Jim.
  19. Sensei Wu (old guy with corn flakes): Today we head to Ninja statue, long before the ninja-go. Its a long walk so everyone bring something to eat, except for you Kid'n Play-haircut robot hiker, robots don't need food.
  20. Even if they didn't copy or clone again, if they made their own original content, they still did those things and it should give serious pause to any Lego enthusiast regarding where they spend their money. And even if all of those unmentionable 'brands' never stole specific sets, content or ideas ever again they still stole the original format for all of the bricks and figures. There's nothing that says that all the thousands of bricks and figures have to have the same exact dimensions and compatibility as their competitor, thats not competing its still stealing the base product. It doesn't matter if one definitively says theft is good or bad, spending money with these companies is complicit in and supportive of their theft. One can MOC their own military and Star Wars stuff without giving a penny to the companies that steal and undermine what everyone here loves.
  21. Welcome to the Town Bed and Breakfast! This family owned and operated establishment is nearing its third generation of host and offers all the comforts of home to weary travelers in a warm and cozy building. This bed and breakfast on the city’s main street was established by David Brickenen, a well regarded historian, traveller and adventurer. David spent his life traveling the world working with researchers, archeologists, biologists and historians furthering the knowledge of of the brick world. Never a treasure hunter, his drive was academic in nature taking only knowledge and information and never artifacts or objects. As he got older he found he could no longer go on expeditions like he used to but still wanted to help others and further the enthusiasm of adventure. He decided to settle down in his favorite region and open this bed and breakfast, offering comfortable lodging, good food and only the best of area knowledge and information to tourists, explorers and adventurers alike. He found this structure, an old masonry apartment building left vacant as the result of nearby brand new developments and decided to give it new life. He and his wife reconditioned the floors, lacquered the wooden window frames and cleaned and restored as much of the original building as possible keeping in-tact the building’s history and feel. Minifigures and minibuilds: Sadly David Brickenen is no longer with us, but his son, Abraham, and his granddaughter Libby carry on his spirit and operate the bed and breakfast with the same love and esprit de corps: Abraham Brickenen is the current owner who along with his daughter, Libby, carry on the family legacy. Abraham takes great pride in the cleanliness and presentation of the bed and breakfast, he never misses a spot. He takes great satisfaction in having one of the tidiest buildings in town, from taking care of all the laundry and bedding, making up the rooms and keeping the whole place clean. He is also quite the handyman and mechanic with a bit of a green thumb, if its not a broom or cleaning product in his hands its a wrench or spackle or trowel and soil. No job is too big, from water heaters, to plumbing and A/C. If Abraham wants it done right, as he always does, then he does it himself. Libby Brickenen helps maintain the guest booking lists, cooks all the food, maintains the kitchen and restaurant and offers up the guests all the best information on places to see and things to do in town. She is renowned in town for her culinary skills and after the guests have had their breakfast and take off for the days activities she offers a few lunch hours where local town residents can come and eat. David's spirit of adventure is very much carried on by Libby, who, like her grandfather has a great fondness for history and exploration. There are no secrets with Libby as she is happy to share the best vistas, locations and things to do in the area. If however you’re more in the mood to sit back, relax and keep it local then she serves the best breakfast food in town which can be ordered all day long. The rest of the minifigures: Travel-writing couple. These two work for a well known travel and exploration publication. The girl is quite the shutterbug taking all the fabulous photos and video for the publication while the guy writes all the articles. The guy is quite a food enthusiast but sometimes he’s a bit too adventurous when trying out local cuisines and winds up spending a bit more time in the bathroom than he’d prefer. The mother and daughter are in town for a children’s orchestra. These are the best kid musicians in the region and they’re here to play an outdoor concert featuring music from the likes of Amadeus Brickzart and Antonio Brickvaldi. Everyone seems to love the music even if its just a few minutes of practice in their bed and breakfast room, everyone except one guy. The adventurous aunt (left). She’s retired and her kids are all grown up so she’s determined to spend her free time seeing as many places and things this brick world has to offer. This lionhearted aunt has been all over the world and her kindness and ability to relate to complete strangers leads her to making friends and getting local travel tips everywhere she goes. She always seems to know exactly where she’s going. (Abby the cabbie pictured right). Businessman and This Guy. Out of town corporate fat cat. We’re not really sure where he’s from but judging from the ostentatious shiny pinstriped suit and condescending attitude the townsfigures are guessing he’s from a large multinational company in Brick York. He seems to always have a scorn on his face and when angry he frequently mentions how he ‘could buy this whole town and turn it into an open pit mine’ despite the fact that the area isn’t particularly rich in minerals. He seems to rub everyone the wrong way. No ones really sure why he’s in this small city but rumor has it that it involves a large land deal that isn’t in the best interest of the townsfigures. This guy. Not much is known of him. Some say he’s ex-military or law enforcement but he tends to keep to himself. The only thing he’s known around town for is making a bunch of local kids return a couple of stolen bicycles to their rightful owners so he seems to have a highly developed sense of morality, drive for justice and is obviously quite a convincing fellow. Come to think of it ever since that rude businessman showed up he’s been seen more than usual, and since when does he ride a scooter? Maybe he knows something we don’t. The biologist and chemist are in town researching a few invasive species of insects and plants. They normally work via remote correspondence but they have come here together to do some more field research in order to collect a few more fresh sample organisms and control test some possible solutions as these non-native species have been decimating some of the local fauna and leading to a decline of other insects. The firefighter and police officer are two of Libby’s best friends. They stop by at least twice a week for lunch to get her absolutely amazing bacon grilled cheese or French toast. Abraham likes having public safety come by and they know better than to bother inspecting the robustness of the locks or integrity of the fire extinguishers as he is always on top of maintenance and safety. This is Abby. The daughter of a former off road rally competitor and instructor, she was trained by the best. When she’s not teaching driver’s education to teenagers she likes to drive the taxi as she’s most happy behind the wheel of an automobile, gets paid to do it and earns some generous tips for her skill and knowledge of all the areas roads and locales. That is until she gets a back seat driver or snobby and rude fare, then she turns into what the townsfigures have nicknamed her; the crabby cabbie. Better to just enjoy the ride and be nice unless you want to lose your lunch because theres a 150-piece vomit clean up fee and she knows how to achieve it. Taxi fare meter with flag drop indicator and passenger (not back seat driver) capacity: Crabby Cabbie two-wheeling: Collection of grandfather clocks, one for each floor. Don't worry, the chimes have been disabled so you can sleep in as long as you like: Kitchen and restaurant builds: All floors: Ground floor: Abraham's favorite room, cleaning and supplies: Upper floors: Some last-minute practice before the big concert: Much to the ire of the rude businessman who has subsequently destroyed his room: The biologist won't sleep tight until she inspects the room for any critters: Uh oh, a bit too adventurous with the local cuisine again: Taking in the view: Each room features a full bathtub and shower with complimentary soaps: Rooftop featuring seating, a hottub, radio, large capacity water heater, A/C, television antenna: Ahhhhh, relaxation: Rooftop gathering fun time: Thanks for visiting and come back anytime!
  22. Counterfeit ≠ competition. Counterfeit products are pretty much never good. How do we know theres not unsafe levels of lead in the plastic like they did with their toothpaste? It undermines investment and R&D, stifles innovation and quality control and can really hurt and even kill people. "Counterfeit products tend to have fake company logos and brands (resulting in patent or trademark infringement in the case of goods), have a reputation for being lower quality (sometimes not working at all) and may even include toxic elements such as lead. This has resulted in the deaths of hundreds of thousands of people, due to automobile and aviation accidents, poisoning, or ceasing to take essential compounds (e.g., in the case a person takes non-working medicine)." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Counterfeit "In a detailed breakdown of the counterfeit goods industry, the total loss faced by countries around the world is $600 billion." Lego and K'nex are competitors. Canon and Nikon are competitors. Yongnuo is a counterfeiter of their products as are all the brands quoted above counterfeiters of Lego. Unforgivable is when they go and steal an individual Lego builder's own Ideas submission (like a Eurobrick's member's build) right off Lego Ideas submissions and produce it as a product. That should be inexcusable to anyone. What's to stop them from stealing your ideas and profiting handsomely off them?
  23. Specter (spectre) is the best from the monster series.
  24. Sweet thanks, totally worth it. Thats one small set for women, one giant leap for Legowomankind.
  25. Yeah this brings back memories. Looking back on game footage now, its horrible, but it was pretty decent at the time. Great work recreating the island and all the memories in AFOL who played this as kids.
