1. Children are overwhelmingly the primary majority user. Their most basic characteristic is a developing mind. Lego knows that kids have very open minds so they create toys that are highly adaptable and changeable to the kids desires in a medium (bricks) that is very diverse and completely compatible across all themes and genres. After enough pieces the kids can create their own toys. 2. Therapy, entertainment, mental stimulation and enjoyment. Yes, building things other than what is dictated in the instructions demands creativity (sometimes the build in the instructions also spurs creativity) and seeing other peoples designs and creations is also incredibly inspiring.

[PRESS RELEASE] 21313 LEGO Ideas: Ship in a Bottle
koalayummies replied to VBBN's topic in Special LEGO Themes
This is really cool, I'm very excited. While I agree the ship looked nicer in the submission the bottle was also huge in comparison and the rigging and canons (were they the technic tube pieces cut down?) were probably an issue for the design team. The bottle is a lot more realistic in the official set and it doesn't look like too much work to build it more like the submission if one wants. Nevertheless I am certainly looking forward to it as its a fantastic and very attractive set and a really original idea. -
Yeah they should be as filled with intricate details like CC, GG and PS.

Wait, theres going to be a Lego fatbike?

It looks like its fixed now but before, when Brick Lover posted that, the second image was displayed with the 'lego confidential do not distribute' watermark over the center of the image which is odd because thats the official Lego site and the official images were already released.

The pop-up book and jaguar are the strongest of the submissions for the review period with the pop up book coming out on top due to Lego designing of their own realistic Creator Expert cars. I believe when it comes time for review that Lego will realize the other buildings are just re-hashes of the first one and instead go with and or wait for stronger ideas, pop-up book will be the one selected if any are. For example ship in a bottle; very strong and fresh idea. Yet more aquatic related standalone stores of the same design, style and technique... old idea that they already did.

Tall Ship by Sebeus (a.k.a. @Sebeus I)

Beautiful ship! Absolutely supported! Not only would love a ship designed by an amazing shipbuilder like yourself but also because it would be great if Lego would make more ye olde ships, period. I just got the new destiny's bounty and can't remember the last time I had that much fun building an official set and hadn't built a ship since skulls eye schooner circa '93. Here's hoping!

This is wonderful Gabrielerava! Lots of clever little builds here, I like that you're not afraid to use the brighter side of the Lego color palette and you make great use of it here. It goes together with your awesome Fish and Sea Shop excellently, I didn't know you were going to expand on that and now I can't wait to see more. Great work!

Thanks Slopemodified. I'm not really that, seasoned there are a number of members here who are by far above and beyond much better at MOC design, but thank you nonetheless. To answer your question, as a lover of hardware stores I just thought about all the staple items and tried to include as much as possible. I also thought about some specialty and less common items that could be brick built (like the compressor, which in a store of this size would clearly be a special order item) but focused on the main items like lumber, plumbing, nursery (gardening) and tools. I wish I could have brick built more of the items and details instead of relying so heavily on the single-purpose minifigure-hand accessories and there are a number of members who have brick-built amazing hardware store details like chainsaws, forklifts, power tools, household chemical containers etc and I didn't want to steal those fantastic little builds. I hope that answers it for you. Thanks.

Thanks AFOLguy1970! Parisian is also my favorite which made taking it apart and reworking it a bit nerve wracking. I probably won't be doubling up or widening any other modular (my PS just has an extra floor for each and I downsized/split up BB) as no other modular has nearly as much appeal as PR so I'm glad you think the changes here are true to the original. Thanks, if you or anyone would like to use the changes at any time, feel free! Thanks Agent 86. I certainly understand your thoughts. At first I was going to have a single switch-back type stairwell going up the back of the building so that each floor was independently accessible without that upper tenant intrusion but I thought it would look way too clunky and it also didn't solve the need to go outside to access the bedroom. I also experimented with putting the stairwell from 2 to 3 and 3 to 4 inside the structure but it just eats up so much space in a building that is already very short depth-wise and there's just not enough olive green bricks even with two sets to increase the depth of the building unless I eliminated one floor which I didn't want to do, it also made the building look even shorter as there's a lot more open space out back without the exterior stairs but I did try and make alternatives work. So I just say that the three upper floors are all rented by the same minifigure and they have no need for the attic so they let their friend use it as their painting studio, or they're sisters or something . The same issue is present in AS, and partly in DO. At some point I may try another approach to the stairs and floor access or just make one of these methods work but I totally understand your thoughts on it and did think similarly through the redesign. A smaller, spiral style staircase like in PS or the new DD would probably work ok inside and definitely outside provided it has strong connections. Thanks again for your thoughts! Edit: Since the image was forgotten the first time around here's what it looks like just widened to the 32-stud baseplate width without the extra floor:

LOL yes, 1x3 Medium Stone Grey brick-character. Here's a synopsis for an episode about him: He's totally monotone, serious and unenthusiastic unlike all the other characters so they try to force him to be happy by dousing him in some sparkle... amphetamines, for lack of a better description and then he's totally tripping out and too happy, way too happy, so they resolve to tone it down so unikitty gets stabbed in the eye by the unicorn dog thing and makes some negative sparkle things pop out of her head which they administer to the 1x3 brick to calm him down, or something. Thats the gist of one episode. Sparkle matters matter sparkle, or something like that.

This is going to be excellent. There's already a well developed wiki for this show. The two best characters:

Thanks Wookiee, glad you think its fitting and still very Parisian. Thanks DK Titan. Thanks Drunknok. I got a second set over the holidays to go with the one I originally got 4 years ago so this build is utilizing 2 sets. I'd say its about 1.8 PRs in total parts usage with some extra parts from my own collection. I was rather surprised how few pieces are left over from the second set, nearly all the Olive Green bricks are gone (just a couple 1x4s and shorter) and even the Earth Blue slope pieces were nearly all used. Everything else will make its way into another MOD or MOC in the future. Thank you very much LegoModularFan! I must say I agree with a lot of your analysis. I did consider making the second floor more dining space which would work quite nicely with the front and rear balconies, and also the restaurant absolutely does need its own separate restroom. I will be sure to take some photos if I try that out as its not much work and the upper floors will still work just fine. Thanks! Thanks Hobbythom! I get exactly what you are saying with the floor heights, it looks off at first since we're all used to seeing a more vertically narrow PR. Its even more noticeable, or at least looks off to the eye at first, with only 3 floors (totally forgot to take that picture btw) where it looks almost squashed and flattened compared to the original. Unfortunately there are almost no Olive Green bricks to spare so I may mock it up with Medium Stone Grey and see if it changes the appearance for the better. With the extra floor though and once its next to the other modulars it looks fairly normal, I feel like its Town Hall's size that throws everything else off.

Yeah but when the train sets go on sale from the likes of toys r us/target and similar they really discount the price. I got 60052 for nearly 50% off and it was frequently on sale.

First up a mention to @Superfunk for their awesome mod which served as much inspiration, you can check out their fantastic Parisian work here. Modification project goals: Increase the width of the structure to the full width of the baseplate Make the ground floor symmetrical with the rest of the building Keep and and enhance the beautiful iconic French architectural style Add an extra floor Update and add minifigures Maintain stairwell access to the upper floors Not order any additional parts, only use parts on-hand (parts not included in the set are present but nothing new ordered) Parisian Restaurant is often one of the most acclaimed and loved Modular sets and is also a personal favorite of mine so it was important to tackle this with as much love and respect to the original design as possible. It was quite the challenge but I feel I've achieved a look that I like even more among the others as its no longer being imposed upon and also gives the gorgeous French architecture more presence. Enjoy! The updated/added minifigures: Maitre d, head chef, pastry chef (baker CMF), head waiter, wedding proposal guy, wedding proposal girl, artist, baguette guy (CMF), cool French guy, baby with oversized head The head chef says he's got tears because he was just cutting onions but he's a big softy and is upset the girl said no to the marriage proposal. Added some more accessories for the kitchen. Centered the wine cabinet with the front entrance and rest of the building. Don't let the waiter's prickly appearance deter you, its rumored he lost his eye while serving as an officer in the Foreign Legion which would explain his strong sense of discipline and great leadership surpassed only by his love of all things French. Second floor apartment. How could it be a French building without French Doors? Not sure who came up with this design first but I've seen it on a number of great Town/City and Train MOCs. Let the sun and fresh air in! Third floor has bedroom and bathroom. In Lego world minifigures take baths with their clothes on and get the 'water' everywhere. The the increase of size in the top floor art studio has allowed the artist to create some larger works. No idea how she'll get it through the door but oh yeah the side of the roof conveniently opens. And finally how it looks with some of the others.

Hands down one of the funniest posts ever, your name, the avatar, the context of the post. Epic.

Very nice! Of all the mods of this set yours is top notch and the CMF fits perfectly. Great pictures as well.

LEGO in Film & TV: Index of Appearances
koalayummies replied to Izzy's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Another Family Guy appearance, in "Underage Peter" Quagmire does a body-shot off of Peter's belly-button , chokes and spits out a number of objects on the floor including a few Lego bricks. -
Haha, what a lucky AFOLguy! Thats a pretty awesome consolation modular. I think here in California all new sets sell out at 10:01am.

Jalemac34 wows us again! You had so many great creations this year and what a build to end it on. Its magnificent! The exterior is so lovely, the gym equipment builds are fantastic, love the central stairwell and entrance (the tiling is beautiful there) and excellent use of space throughout. Your buildings are amazing and I can't wait to see what you create in 2018.

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
koalayummies replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
Art deco and its history have been a part of the discussion since November 18th, the day the first images leaked. -
Worst car ever! Features: none. Worst in-class cargo capacity. Zero star crash safety rating. Clown-car aesthetics. Who wouldn't want to drive this? I created this out of boredom but thoroughly enjoyed making a ridiculous little car like the stuff we all grew up with but utilizing more modern pieces. Decided to share it if anyone else wants to have a build that may generate laughter. 63 pieces without minifigure, remarkably solid for its size, absurd by today's standards.
