Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
koalayummies replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
Multiple times you've commented on how this thread is in your opinion going off topic but the title of the thread is 'modular building sets rumors and discussion'. Members can discuss all aspects of the official modular building sets and the series as a whole, not just limited to the hearsay 'I know a guy who knows a guy' rumors. You can talk rumors and the rest can discuss whatever they like regarding the official sets including the just-announced Diner and their thoughts and opinions. The thread is 245 pages long, there's one and a half pages discussing minifigure heads, its a part of the modular discussion because they've been doing it one way for 10 years and now it changed. That is what makes it pertinent to the broader discussion of the entire modular building series. Is it a huge change, no, but others are free to discuss it if they like. That's not a rumor, thats just a guess but I'll join because the next modular could be a police station-library-school-museum-hospital-post office-apartment building-hardware store-train station-clothing outlet-deli-pancake house-locksmith-computer repair-home furnishings store-sporting goods shop-appliance repair-jeweler-seafood-pharmacy-bicycle shop-architecture firm-lawyers office-courthouse built in gothic, neoclassical, postmodern, historicism, timber framing, tudor, Mediterranean revival, baroque and so on and so forth. -
Yeah there were some awesome and amazingly creative builds. Goes to show the world of Lego MOC is practically endless with possibility.

Shame about the heavy haul set. I got 60052 instead but the appeal of the heavy haul has grown so much that I kind of wish I got that one instead. Here's hoping for some new train stuff in 2018 because its feels neglected almost as much as the historic and pirate themes.

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion

So a sunshine and rainbows fairytale town where everyone has a the same cloned pharmaceutical induced smile. Funny how it works indeed, adults fretting over Lego. The nostalgia obsession among a few may worry a psychiatrist but its not enough to stop me from loving the change to the new faces for even a second! -

They're the precursor to what is now known as the minifigure. Googling 'first lego minifigure' yields that result. Its a valid comparison, arguing semantics on the other hand is a waste of time. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lego_minifigure For the semantics pedants, change is a very good thing. -

That is really pretty. I don't even know what some of those pieces are but they are used here perfectly. Excellent MOC! -

Yeah, they're all just rough approximations to Lego colors except for the blue on the awning, it was being difficult so I gave up. It was all done just for fun to join in the color changing craze as I think the colors of the actual official set are perfectly fine.

(Yay for the newer city/CMF styled faces.) -
That looks really good, nice photoshop work. Would that change be one of the Nougat colors (Medium Nougat)?

Not a huge fan of art deco but they nailed the style and there is plenty to like about this set. For starters I love the use of City faces, that was the right move and hope it stays for any future modulars. Really like the tiled studs-not-on-top facia of the Brick Yellow portion of the building as I always enjoy uncommon fraction-of-a-plate/brick offsets. The opening skylight and back staircase are awesome and there's interesting and subtle but clever connections throughout, many that I want to try out right now. Sad to see the 4-petal flower ('bracelet') pieces go but thats pretty insignificant and the pink car parts could go towards a number of other useful Town vehicles. And as always with the modulars if you don't love it 2480 pieces at 170 is still a great deal.

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion

There I was posting a simple tongue in cheek deadpan satire response of another member's hypothetical desire for release day acquisition of a new set getting thwarted by a certain, specific type of Lego purchaser and its replied to in the most predictable way. -

Wish you the best of luck but the "investors"** will be in line long before everyone else, they'll buy all 5 the store got in stock and then turn around offer to sell you one for $270. **The term they prefer to be called lest they be made to feel bad about themselves. -

The architectural style of this building is definitely influenced by late Art Deco, Streamline Moderne (PWA Moderne) with some hinting of Googie/futurist. Art Deco is rather wide ranging from the conservatively styled Chrysler Building or Los Angeles City Hall to the louder and more flamboyant styles found in Miami Beach and the numerous now faded dilapidated structures around California (and current day Johnny Rockets). This Diner being the latter; the louder, curvier and more colorful Deco/Moderne. -
Best Theme: The Lego Ninjago Movie Best Minifigure: Misako Best Set: Ninjago City/Saturn V/Women of Nasa Worst Theme: Angry Birds Worst Minifigure: All non-yellow minifigures that don't represent real non-fiction people (i.e. Women of NASA excluded) Worst Set: Ideas Adventure Time Most welcomed 2018: Any re-release of retired products.

As we suspected that Lego Shop@Home limit per household isn't working and they need to extend it to all retailers. "We restrict the limit a household can buy in order to be fair to all of our fans. If you’ve already reached that limit through previous orders your order may be cancelled." "Too many of us now tend to worship self-indulgence and consumption. Human identity is no longer defined by what one does but by what one owns. But we've discovered that owning things and consuming things does not satisfy our longing for meaning. We've learned that piling up material goods cannot fill the emptiness of lives which have no confidence or purpose." -Some old guy who now just builds houses for free -
Oh ok, thanks! Red Arrows Hawk was really strong and the blues mobile would have been cool too. "Whats this? This car! This stupid car!.. You don't like it? No I don't like it."
-
Disappointed about everything else that didn't make it, but in that same link it shows next batch of projects for review in early 2018. Curious how one of them doesn't break the very clear rules: "Don’t base your project on a licensed property we currently sell, LEGO Ideas does not accept projects based on: Currently active or announced licenses such as Star Wars™."

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion

The modulars have turned many into completists yet at approximately $0.07 a piece they are hard to pass up even if one isn't in love with the design of the set. They are typically among the best price per piece sets. So as one who isn't a huge fan of fart deco it'll still have my interest, get built at least once and if it doesn't grow fondness then its nonetheless a decent purchase of 2,000 brand new bricks for moc use. -
[MOC] Butcher, market gardener and lawyer office
koalayummies replied to jalemac34's topic in LEGO Town
Jalemac34 wows again! Another beautiful modular. Wonderful and innovative designs and parts usage. Love the Earth Blue, use of the lion head pieces and artwork to fill the walls and make it more lively. The butcher and apartment bathroom are especially exceptional. Fantastic MOC! -
Astoundingly gorgeous MOC! The level of detail throughout every inch of such a massive build is staggering. Beautiful, amazing, master builder work.

Agreed. Here's hoping its just coincidence that they singled those two out. Compared to... Market Street? Really? -
Perfection! So realistic. Nice job with the pins that hold down the bars. Well done.
