  1. Thank you! Yes, maybe a licence is needed I'm going to add some pics of its insides to show the routing of the diff locks and steering - tempted to build a V2 as this was progressive refinement and does lead to messy areas that could be better...
  2. Hi everyone, finally took some pics of my Xerion. Its kind-of finished, but could do with some cleaning up here and there. Anyway, here's what i have so far..! 4 Wheel drive (Motorised RC) 3 Diff locks, all using the orange wave selector and all manual. Track width is about 1L to wide, but to get the drive, steering and diff lock in, plus have the tyres not foul the chassis when turning, its the best compromise. 2 steering modes - both the steering and the mode selector are motorised and RC. Rear axle has two steering racks, small LA slide the pinion axle to engage the 'other' rack to give standard 4 wheel steering and crab. Rotating cab using a modified version of 42054 - was motorised, but changed the layout of a few bits, not yet reconnected it. Bonnet is a lengthened 42054 but mounted at a different angle. Rear 3 point linkage, motorised and RC. Very similar to the one i had on the Axion. Dimensions are: 130mm tyres, Overall length 46cm, height 24cm and wheelbase is 22cm Not sure if i'm going develop it much further... i get kinda bored after a while and take things apart to start something new. (case IH Stieger or Magnum Row trac maybe...) I'm always poor and embedding and sharing pics, so at some point in the next 10 mins i'll get the flickr album link added plus a couple of pics. Hopefully. https://flic.kr/s/aHskPKa6M1 20190101_131359 by Team Thrifty, on Flickr 20190101_131337 by Team Thrifty, on Flickr 20190101_131638 by Team Thrifty, on Flickr Here's one next to 42082 for scale.. 3. Oh my life! Look at them tyres!!! I'm fully in love with them... are they 150mm? Its like tyre poker - i'll see your 130's and raise you Please send me the link for them, i have massive tyre envy, i need them - it adds 4cm to my xerion's wheelbase. I'm so excited right now!! Ha!! Happy new year! ps i didn't use a central diff, (the real ones don't either), i used about 4 sprockets to match the ratio needed
  4. I too got this set for xmas (and love it a lot), all my bags were present and correct. Think i was missing 1 red double pin/single axle (don't know it proper name! you know the thing, a 3l connector..), but to be honest, it could turn up under the sofa..
  5. I think i saw those on ebay a while back, might be different ones. I went with the 130mm as they were a tractor tread pattern - not identical to the claas tyres, but close enough (and on my xerion with 4 of them, it doesn't matter!) That sounds like a great set/moc option to me... @hpil have you started the build yet? It would be great to see your solutions to stuff, not many big scale tractor mocs around - pretty excited to see another! (i'm going to photograph my xerion moc and start a thread for it shortly)
  6. Surely thats still 15cm tyres?! I'd love some 15cm Ag tyres... i do like a big moc! The 13's generate a LOT of torque.. the axles twist more than expected. Portal hubs would be a good call, but don't fit 3rd party hubs, or suit a tractor really.. but it would help on the twisting.
  7. Hi, loving to see more ag mocs on here, its a sub-niche!! Is 1:12 the right scale? doesn't that tractor have 215cm rear tyres.. that would mean you need an 18cm tyre. My 13cm ones allow me a 1:16.5? Even if they're 200cm its still only 15:1... Just a thought! But great to see the 3rd party tyre option being explored!
  8. ..please, please, please.... something big and rufty tufty. technic in style, not 'pretty' and brick built. proper hairy chested beast of a thing. thats all.
  9. On the subject of impossible dreams.... how about a monster excavator (or similar), licenced and packaged like the bugatti for those of us that aren't crazy about 'another' car? A big majestic construction flagship! (with new tracks that feel less 1982.. a step too far!!?)
  10. Me too! A 4 motor monster with new track parts would be excellent... (rubber tracks would make me pass out) 8043 is still one of my favourites, so a bulldozer/excavator/loader on a bigger scale would be amazing.
  11. I might be reading too much into this, but has someone seen the 2H flagship? Or am I just getting ahead of myself...
  12. agreed.. ...it took 40 years to get a tractor tyre at decent scale!!
  13. This is pretty cool set.. it feels 'technic', and will attract younger builders as it fun and wheelies. So i suspect its a winner for TLG. Big sprocket is exciting.. has to be a hint at something to come (and it won't be another car!). Now all we need is updated tracks to go with it. Something rubbery would be lovely!! So many construction and ag options open up with updated track components. Can't wait for 2H.
  14. Can I just mention that these reviews always feel totally fair and honest - there's no angle or spin, and that can be a rare thing, so i think its worth thanking @Jim for that. And, this is a personal thing for me, they're written from a positive perspective. The glass is always half full. Lego for me, makes me smile, even if its not the 'perfect' set. I sometimes the amount of negativity on some threads mind boggling! Its a toy, and an awesome one and maybe that gets lost sometimes... i feel Jim's reviews tap into that positivity perfectly (without going to far and being unrealistic). ..and the pics are great. Really gives you a solid basis to make that important purchase decision.
  15. At last, i'm not alone!! Amen to that!! Bang right... phew, thought it was only me. I even posted a question for the car boys other day as to why suspension is rarely authentic.. don't think anyone replied. presume its because bodywork takes such a priority, but it just doesn't yank my chain at all. I'm still curious about suspension though, there's massive attention to gearbox detail (which i enjoy as much as anyone because its mechanical) but suspension doesn't get the same priority... but bodywork that totally none-technical does.. bit confused if i'm honest
  16. There does seem to be a circular arrangement that could be a bale chamber... whatever it is, its fantastic. i love the lunacy of it! Technical chaos at its finest!!
  17. This moc is right up my street, and great to see pneumatics getting a starring role - and going to the trouble of making the seat rotate takes a certain kind of mind!! Visually i think it looks bang-on, this is an area i lose patience with, so its great see. The many-motors approach got some negative comments on a different moc recently, its an approach i often use and like. Good to see it.. remote-ing out the pneumatics control is a great idea. Like that a lot.
  18. I've got car question.. they're not my thing, but Lego is, so they still are if you follow me?! Suspension never seems to be a replica of the real thing - i've seen one moc that had torsion bar springs, anti roll bars and correct geometory, but the vast majority posted here seem to just have some springs in a standard format. Why is that? This set doesn;t have faithful suspension, but its being suggested the gearbox was left out as if its not a replica, its left out.. just curious why suspension gets less attention than other things, both in this 'review' and most moc's (not all, i know!) Just curious, not be negative about anyone's mocs etc..
  19. I was a similar age with that model... it was the year when group B rally cars were still allowed.. 1983 ish i think? I turned mine into a lancia delta s4 chassis (sort of!). It had the floor pan lowered, wheelbase was shorter, so basically a new chassis, 4 wheel drive and the engine moved to be mid-engined. Had a roll cage too.... i was chuffed at the time! I've got half an idea to do a similar job to the Porsche, use it for the basis of a WRC moc.. studless with all the new suspension and steering parts, it would be a fun build.
  20. A highly inaccurate guesstimation puts a quadtrac moc at about 1:15 - 1:17 scale - using 130mm tyres on my xerion is 1:16.5, so its a good scale to build at. Should translate to construction being a good size too. Even if TLG do something else with them, at least the part exists now for mocs. Its all good.
  21. So about the diameter of a xerion hub.. thats got options. Used in a Quadtrack / 9RX configuration it probably gives a decent scale. Not big enough for a 9RT, but we can't have everything!! Could make a good sized flag ship dozer or similar. Fingers crossed. Getting quite excited for 2H flagship now!
  22. What actual size is the new sprocket? It may be big enough for a decent sized flagship dozer, or a moc quadtrack... i still think the plastic tracks are a bit limiting, construction only really. Having said that, a construction flagship would be awesome. 42070 and a few cars is slim pickings unless you love cars!
  23. Moc is great, love to see different ideas.. looks really smooth. Like it a lot! (less keen on the edit, but thats a trivial point really... i'm also baaad at vids!)
