Wow, i have some catching up to do... too much work, not been here... First thoughts - this is a big beautiful beast, but i'm dreading the price. The app controller for Control + (?) is way beyond what i expected. Looks brilliant. I'm so far behind on all the different controllers that people are mentioning might be compatible, need to catch up!! If there's a few bugs to iron out, thats ok.. as a developer i've released my fair share to unsuspecting users, so its only right i'm forgiving to others!!! Its a brilliant control + parts pack, bundled up in a fantastic and brutal set, but some of the prices mentioned are eye-watering. Not going off topic, or at least not too much, it might be that 42099 is in pole position for me, which is a terrible shame as i love a big scale flagship.. maybe once its out and the stores discount it, it will be a bit less salty. (how awesome are those planetary's by the way?!!)

Cutting panels (heresy)
TeamThrifty replied to Ctan's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Beautifully put. 100% in agreement. One thing i do find interesting is there's a sub-faction that isn't black and white. Purists that permit some 'low grade' cutting of axles for example.. Purists, but a different sort of purist. And then there are non-purists who draw the line at cutting panels*.. There's as many opinions as there are people i suspect. Disclosure of modifications is the key as @nerdsforprez detailed so well. (*Fairly sure this is how religion started! Different groups, same imaginary friend, except one thinks he's the son of god and the other thinks he is god. Boom! another war...) -
I grew up with it in the 80's - i was 7 in 1980 when i got my first set. Unrealistic expectations are what we see, not a genuine fear of it becoming something else... 'its not what i want so its crap'. Its Snowflake-ism. I'm bored to death by supercars, but i'm happy to wait for the next thing i do love. I don't slate TLG for it..

Those pics without the bodywork look awesome. Proper hard. Leave the bodywork off! Also really nice to see decent suspension, most supercar mocs on here have very basic suspension, like its an after-thought.. wishbones, push rod, kingpin inclination - awesome job. Beats 99% of all other cars on that feature alone! (Very very few mocs put effort in here... where are all the anti-roll bars and heave springs?! i include the Bugatti and Porsche in that list too)

@Fieldtest I'd gracefully back down on this one if i were you... Logically the evidence is massively against any kind of pneumatic function as @Bartybum detailed. Its not an assumption, which are dangerous, its a logical deduction which is different . No harm in fighting your corner of course! (in a respectful way, this is a friendly forum for the most part), but i think on this occasion its a slam-dunk, they're cosmetic...

James Watt's Steam Engine
TeamThrifty replied to Kaero's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Watching the mechanism is hypnotic, the parallelogram arrangement is brilliant to watch. Looks really smooth..- 9 replies

Me too... i like lego because its lego, a 3d rendering isn't lego, its a graphic. At least half the fun is in the trial and error, build and rebuild. 'Perfecting' something on-screen and then building it once, isn't lego for me... (and i'm a software developer, so i'm definitely not anti-tech!) Thats why i much prefer mocs to sets - don't get me wrong, i love the official sets and enjoy building them, but nothing comes close to sitting down with nothing but a rough idea and trying, and failing, and re-trying until you have something. 5 times better than building from an instruction, or a pre-designed virtual moc... in my opinion, of course!

OOO now you're talking!! I've thought many times about trying to replicate something in lego... now i know there's someone who'll appreciate it, its back on my to-do list!! I like that idea quite a lot, may look at adding it to Xerion 2.0 before i dismantle it. It needs something to check the movement, chains i would have thought on the MF? This growing tractor sub-niche is awesome. The cross-pollination of ideas is brilliant.

Whats the alternative? Ignore the smart-phone culture that is genuinely global? Not use bluetooth that is specifically designed to be platform agnostic.. (thats the key here, its not smartphone dependant..). They could end up down a propriety dead-end. Luddites would be happy as larry, but... Bluetooth ISN'T smartphone dependant, and as a coincidence, as a technology is 20 years old this year.. so its been around a while and Lego are hardly being Early Adopters of this new fad that will die out!! Its established, reliable (cough) technology.

Exactly... sometimes it feels like 'principle' gets in the way. I love 42082, but why would i want 2? (unless my collection isn't very big and piece count/£ is the goal..) Every new set gets kicked, its as though people default setting is to be negative, find fault, reasons to not want it. Porsche? Kicking. 42082? Kicking. 42070? Kicking..ok fair enough on that one , Bugatti? Kicking. Thought the F in afol was for 'Fan'?!! Oddball : Why don't you knock it off with them negative waves? Why don't you dig how beautiful it is out here? Why don't you say something righteous and hopeful for a change? (Awesome film!!)

Thats awesome, not a fault. when i was 9 i tried to build things that were way to ambitious - you should never knock ambition!! (also its in danger of sounding like a 2 tier lego culture, the experienced builder looking down on newbie's, i'm sure that wasn't your intention ) You never learn by playing it safe (and thats a rule business/life as well as lego!!) My advice to new builders is try to build the impossible, fail, learn, try again. Repeat. "Move fast and break things" is a saying common in science and engineering industries. In that context, it means that making mistakes is a natural consequence of innovation in a highly competitive and complex environment"

YES!! Well said my friend! I agree completely!! Why? Been there and done it.. new parts and a new build is much more interesting.
