just on the colour vomit theme... if you look at the parts list, its 15 lift arms (green, orange, yellow) and 72 orange pins with bush that cause it. thats a tiny percentage of the whole model. Makes me doubt its the economics thats driving it.. but i suppose if you sell 10k sets, its 3/4 million orange pins.. if you apply that to all technic sales over a 2 or 3 year period, its potentially a very big number. (incidentally, maybe this is a question for @Jim, what kind of unit sales does the average flagship get.. are those figures available?)

The 60 degrees movement of the boom means one LA advances 60 degrees around the 20t - imagine keeping the 20t stationary and rotating the LA around its axis, its the same as moving the 20t and keeping the LA stationary. The other LA does the reverse, so from fully down to fully up, it introduces 120 degrees of offset between the 2 LA, and since its a 20t driving a 12t, its nearer 200 degrees.. though less than one turn on a LA isn't going to break anything, its not technically ideal Not sure thats any clearer!

Great review as always, but I am biased as i loved it the first time i saw it. Interesting angle on the evolution of technic sets, not something i'd really considered. For me this is an excellent balance of proper technic (gearboxes, steering, ring gear bearing) and making it look more realistic. Sets like the Chiron are too looks orientated for me. This is a hairy-chested technic set that brings out the 12 yr old giddiness in me. And that what opens my wallet... i'm basically a 12 yr old with a budget!! PS. Do you live near @nico71 or his he your alter-ego?! the pics of his excellent C model look to be taken in the same place...!

B models are super-low priority for me too.. never built one either. This is a great C model - when is it a C model and when is it a MOC, i know technically its cos its only using the pieces of 1 set, so its a C. But in reality, C is just a special-case MOC... and MOC's are what its all about for me... I digress! Its a great C / MOC either way!! And i'm loving seeing Red moc's, there were many orange one's following porsche, but red looks better in my eyes.... Where are all the blue ones by the way? Are all the chiron's sat on shelves gathering dust! get them stripped down and get some blue moc's!!

..interesting! I'm a .net developer and really value the work done by someone in your role.. makes my life so much easier!! Good luck for tomorrow, sounds like a great move. -
I noticed its mainly black and grey so far... you need some orange and green in there! Its the modern way!! (only joking, i'm not the biggest fan of some of the colours in 42082, but understand reasons behind it... and its only a minor thing!!) not really, sorry.. just thought a little nod towards the much derided 42009 would be nice! And i am a fan of that particular function, it was the best bit of the build for me by far..

Liebherr cranes don't seem to have multiple modes, but terex do, so its not a universal feature from what i can see... nice to have? Probably. A joke that its not there, not really. Have you started your version yet by the way? I notice @BrickbyBrickTechnic has started one which is brilliant (he's got the steering modes included), genuinely interested in following that moc.

Not again! enough already!! Maybe you should apply for a designers job at TLG, let them know where they're going wrong... ..or better still, rather then empty criticism, produce a C model with a 1000 pieces less. It would be great to see and would support your claim - and i'll be the first to congratulate you on it!! Let me know when its ready Others have criticised elements of other sets, but have backed it up by producing better versions that are peer reviewed on here, and thats awesome as its constructive - and a great learning experience. Throwing rocks from the side-lines is easy.... ... i love it and i'll keep defending it, otherwise the balance of opinion isn't fairly represented.

Perfectly summed up. You hit the nail better than i did.. i see 99 good things, not the 1 bad. My cup is always at least half-full, and for me this set is full of positives..

It feels like the expectation of entitlement we see throughout society. I may struggle to explain without typing a 1000 words so i probably won't try.... but the concept of starting from a less than perfect position and improving (whether its a career, or how shiny your car is, or... lego), seems not to be acceptable anymore. I blame social media... (and i'm no Luddite, i'm a software developer!) ...but its promoted the 'need' for Everything. Now. I'm entitled to perfection and nothing less is acceptable!! This is a thought on society in general, certainly not at any individual so please no one take offence, but sometimes its the vibe that comes off some comments.... Amen to that!

despite speed issues, the outriggers on 42009 were the best bit for me! i loved the red sliding 8t and the super long axles.. thought it was great!!

you have to design for the lowest common denominator - implicit assumptions lead to problems. Training literature for adults in the workplace is written as though targeting an 11 yr old, as thats deemed the safe level that most people will understand, so assuming (eek) that 'I doubt a teenager doesn't understand' is a dangerous thing to do!!

Its back to the old 'perfection or i'm not buying' thing... i know i sound like a broken record, but sets don't need to be perfection for me, they're an ideas pack / a starting point / inspiration (either good or bad). Lego is a toy designed for being taken apart / altered / made into moc's.. thats its reason to exist, otherwise you'd glue the parts together and sit it on a shelf forever, like Tamiya kits. But its not meant for that... its about experimentation, trial and error, learning, improving.. and not to be taken soooo seriously!! Its a hobby and a toy thats meant to be fun!!! Soooo many black clouds ... Lego, even 42070, makes me happy just looking at it.. its a rainbow, not a black cloud.. and judging by some of the colour choices, rainbows were in the design brief !!!!

Porsche was lots of steps on bodywork, suspect chiron is the same, for me the Porsche build got dull when i'd finished the chassis - bwe was enjoyable right until the end. i'm hoping 42082 is like bwe with wheels!

there does seem to be new colour trends (orange 3l pins, white 1l...), but as i have hundreds of the more traditional colours, then it just offers me more choice. Just need to decide what orange means... like most people, red is the assembly points for modules or similar. grey and black for blending in... what does orange mean?! This is a deep metaphysical question. what is the meaning of orange. 42?

42009 doesn't get the juices flowing like this does though!!! (and it was a dull build.. my least favourite flagship build i think. But its outriggers were good) Its same previously discussed different points of view though isn't it? I view a set as an idea, a starting point, something to be dismantled and improved.., something that provides ideas for moc's. Others think it should be bang on out of the box and leave it built on a display shelf. Completely opposite views and never the twain shall meet!! (which is fine by the way)

Loved it when i first saw the leaked images.. still loving it! There was some concern that it was too many pieces and not enough function, just wondered if now details of the build are emerging, has it changed anyone's minds? Maybe some have gone the other way and are disappointed by it? Be interesting to know. I made my decision to love it based on virtually no evidence, so i could have easily been a mind-changer... turns out i'm not!
