  1. Soooo, before i take it to pieces i thought i'd share a mostly finished moc of the Claas Axion 960. First thing to mention is the use of 3rd party rear tyres. These allow the scale to be 1:16.5 which means squeezing in features is much easier! Also mean the Xerion wheels are the correct size to be used as front wheels. Here is a link to a flickr album.. if i work out how to embed sensibly sized images i will also - https://www.flickr.com/gp/152155419@N02/229t54 Features: Full RC drive, steering, Pneumatic pump and 3 point linkage - 4 motors. 4 wheel drive, engaged via driving ring clutch Rear Diff-Lock engaged via driving ring clutch Realistic 3 point linkage... 42054 had a very none-real arrangement. Rear PTO engaged via driving ring clutch Narrow (3L) waist to allow 45 degrees of steering lock while retaining a to-scale track width - just realised there's no pic of this, i'll add one. Rear wheels will not be to everyone's taste! But to get a decent scale, i think its needed.. all the supercars are around 1:8 or 1:10 scale which gives you room to fit things. even with these 130mm tyres, its still only 1:16.5. One of the biggest squeezes is getting the track width narrow enough with 4wd and steering.. its actually about 0.5L to wide, the axle will allow a narrower track but then the lock will be 30 degrees or something equally poor. Its 39cm long and 23cm wide, not weighed it yet. Piece count is totally unknown. I'll take a vid of all the function and add it to youtube in the next day or so before i dismantle.... I've got plans to build a proper Xerion with 3 difflocks. Axle is already built so i'm itching to start! I know tractors are a fairly niche category, but i love building them.. all comments welcome! 20180908_181504 by Team Thrifty, on Flickr
  2. Just to double check... is the question actually 'can i put electrical parts through a dishwasher..' ?! And don't warm your bath with a 2 bar electric fire either!!
  3. Option a) disassemble, put all parts in a pillow-case and put in the washing machine on 30 degrees, then have the pleasure of rebuilding.. Option b) disassemble, put all parts in a pillow-case and put in the washing machine, then have the pleasure of MOC-ing like the fury with all those parts!!! Poor things sat on a shelf, unused, gathering dust... after all, lego's not an ornament, it's for building with!!! (other opinions are available..)
  4. I bought it at this price on friday I suspect the price will rebound upwards on the approach to xmas, i think previous years i've waited to see and ended up paying more.
  5. I'm a bit late to this party, but this moc is awesome Amazing job @Madoca 1977, i love it..!
  6. That would be great if they are, can't wait to see them. I think its a great basis for moc's, and makes a change from supercars!!
  7. I know, i ride sportsbikes, climb mountains, run two businesses, build my own engines (real ones)... in the gaps, i log in here. Believe me, its the only forum i ever contribute to, and i have zero social media. The exciting stuff is not a mystery to me!!
  8. True enough! But with the amount of wailing and gnashing of teeth and claims of how 'easy it would be to replicate with half the pieces' i'm staggered we're not knee deep in them!! Or am i.... but lets not digress, i genuinely like this moc, and not only because @BrickbyBrickTechnic has the courage of his convictions at approaching 3k pieces, and with some key areas to still complete, it makes 4k look about right? Maybe the wheel trims are excessive, but its not bloated by a 1000+ pieces.. based on the only valid alternative anyway!! Canada: Home of valid cranes and the best band in the world!
  9. Leave them, honestly, it lifts the whole moc. I'd love to see 42082 with yellow rims if anyone has it built? I always get the flagship for xmas, so i can't do it myself.. yet. Those 3 colours look great together.
  10. I'm loving that. Its back to my 'gut reaction' theory, and when i look at that, its got a good feel about it.. the proportions etc. Like it a lot. (and its still the only alternative to 42082 despite all the chatter!! Awesome job.) Looking forward to seeing it in a week or so. Interesting parts are at around 3000 already.... yellow, black and red do work well together. https://www.versatile-ag.com/NA/pages/product_4wd.php
  11. i know people have done a lot of work in this area so they'll know the answer to what i'm about to say... if torque describes a single rpm, and power is torque over time. two motors delivering more torque should mean you can gear up for more speed and reduce the torque back to single motor levels, as power presumably remains the same. Its only torque and time you're adjusting?
  12. Yea, i realised my typo earlier.. it was very early!
  13. Exactly!! (doh!.. not had any coffee). I even used the word volume and still didn't notice... well spotted!
  14. piece count goes up to the cube.. double (halve?) the scale quadruple the pieces. It will be linear to the volume (assuming similar piece density)... cos it is quite literally a volume! External measurements define a container thats 'filled' with pieces, same as a container filled with water..
  15. Ha! they don't look great do they.. i've got a moc kicking around at the minute that nearly had the same thing... i swapped the middle one out for 7L lift arms just because it didn't feel right! Even then, stacking frames and lift arms isn't much better. But in reality, why not. Its strong and works... but feels wrong.
  16. @Black_Belt_Titan Your patience is exceptional!! Great picture though!
  17. Define 'worth'. Price per part its cheap. that's an absolute measure, perhaps the only objective one. Everything else is subjective. Price per function? do-able but does't tell you how clever or intricate those functions were. 'Gearbox' = 1 function, but is the porsche gearbox the same as the chiron? probably not, so function count looks like an unreliable measure. You should love it then, as mentioned already, price per part is low. What it boils down to, is that our thoughts on a set are a gut feeling as much as anything measurable. We'll all spend for a super-trick function, no doubt there. I'm a sucker for big set. Others are suckers for polished-no-gap-realism. we all have our weakness, but when thse threads try to objectify a reason, it kind of fails for me... its how your gut feels. Simple.
  18. Or a whopper with unimog wheels... too much is never enough!
  19. Our Lego who art in production, Arocs be thy Name... Amen.
  20. ..and most people with PC's are not very i.t. literate but it doesn't mean they can't have one.. not every user has to operate at the top-end of somethings capability. Whether it be Lego, PC's etc. What you may find is that those people use technic as a gateway into understanding things. And perhaps most importantly, their money is as good as ours in keeping the wheels at TLG oiled.
  21. Same for me.. i'm often squeezing the pump in anywhere it will fit and wondering how i'm going to get drive to it!! every time i see an air tank i get jealous... keep going to buy one but the prices are outrageous! I bought the new orange gearbox selector for about £1 and the blue clutch gears for 25p or something... and an airtank is £25!!
  22. It is as @Sariel said, personal preference, and even though i love 42082, an alternative point of view, logically detailed is interesting. For me, gaps and pin-holes are fine. I'd rather that than tonnes of system bricks. But again that just me.. Quite diverse reviews of 42082 from @Sariel and @Jim - but great to see TLG supporting freedom to review honestly. Gives the undecided valuable information. I still love 42082 though!!
  23. Ahh, i've only missed them for a year then.. could be worse! So many parts, technic is a deep pool in which we swim!
  24. The worm gear used to move the counter weight, (and the mast in the fork lift), i've not seen them before. I've only got the 2L, smaller diameter ones. I presume they're not a new piece, but are they not used very often? I've bought myself 5 now i know they exist...
