Icons Landmark Buildings - Rumours and Discussion
Murdoch17 replied to Vilhelm22's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I vote for my hometown monument: St Louis' Gateway Arch. Why? 1. It might just become a regulation-size croquet hoop this way, as it's the tallest man-made monument in the Wester hemisphere, at 630 feet tall (and 630 feet wide, for that matter) 2. It's the only monument in the USA dedicated to people who wanted to get away from the place where the monument is now located. (being the "Gateway to the West", after all) 3. It's also nearly impossible to build in Lego!- 259 replies

Thanks for stopping by and giving some suggestions @Man with a hat. Sadly, the model's inside will be totally crammed, so there is sadly no way to add a door for a balcony. Ok, so I managed to get some more done on the switch tower. There is about 80 parts left to buy, worth a little under 15 bucks. ...and yes, old man Takeshi (ex-pilot from Exo Force) works as the switch operator for Davis Tower. Here is his post-2008 backstory: You see that guy with the thinning green hair and potbelly over there, glaring at us? His name is Takeshi, and he was once one of the best Exo Force pilots in the service of Sensei Keiken. He and his fellow teammates came -this- close to getting rid of the scourge of Mecha One and his robots in the jungles at the base of Sentai Mountain, when the worst possible thing happened: their theme suddenly got canceled! In the ensuing chaos, nobody bothered to finish the storyline unofficially. This deeply affected Takeshi psychological and physically. He went from a proud mech pilot in peak physical condition to an overweight, balding shell of the man he once was. Today, 14 years later, he still talks at great length about that dark day in 2008, along with the time the robots' vehicle designer somehow killed the color Teal while inventing the Dark Panther mech. (Don't ask!) He also has a thing against modern robot helpers such as Alexa and Roomba, and despises Ninjago for it's similarity to Exo-force and it's 10+ years of life. As for friends, he still keeps in occasional touch with the now-married Hitomi and Hikaru. Ryo is his regular drinking buddy on Saturday nights where they reminisce and talk about the good old day. Sadly, everyone else on his old team has avoided him while they moved on with their lives. Even Mecha One avoids him, though this is most likely because the former villain got a job sweeping floors of Ninjago City under the alias of 'Sweep'. All in all, I feel sorry for poor Takeshi. (Thoughts?)

UPDATE: This is about as far as I can go on the interlocking tower model without ordering anything. The lower floor is 99% complete, the roof is totally finished, but I can't begin on the second story until I order the little over 100 remaining parts in January. Any thoughts on it so far?

I've been a working on the railroad all the live-long day... A package arrived yesterday so I built as far as I could with those parts today. I'm still missing one more delivery, and the USPS seems to not know where it is right now. With bad weather all over the country, and snow possibly heading my way next week, I hope it gets here soon!

He should've kept the sand in the bag. Great work on a iconic scene!

Okay, I lied. Here's a real world WIP shot: One ex-cop 1974 Dodge Monaco LEGO MOC: $18 Two Jazz Musician CMF mini-figures: $12 a piece One epic film to build the Bluesmobile by: Priceless Some things money can't buy, but for everything there's Bricklink. (Yes, I'm missing a bunch of parts still and the Brothers are going to be fig-barfs, not the $$ CMF ones. But the basic sentiment stands!)

Ok, you convinced me @Moon_Knight. I added one to the car, but it's missing a bunch of parts from LDD. So, no pictures until it's built in real bricks.

You just proved my point about not being welcome. I am done with this thread... the rabid fanboying is getting nauseous.

Seems like Fast and Furious has done literally everything else, so why not? F&F's producers should buy the rights to the idea before somebody else beats 'em to it! Coming to a theatre near you!

I guess having an opposing opinion isn't allowed on here... Are @Clone OPatra and me not welcome for having differing opinions? I guess that's the case!

New engine alert! Eight years ago, I bought instructions from @SavaTheAggie's Bricklink shop (back when you could sell custom instructions on the site) for a green 4-6-2 'Pacific' type steam loco. I never really used them, up until now. I added a more modern frame, smaller wheels, pistons and my own tender. I also added 2 more driving wheels to make it into a 4-8-2 Mountain-type steam loco. All that remains from those instructions is the boiler and basic 7-wide cab "look". (I also obviously changed the color to be mostly red.) You can see Sava's original model here (in regular green with oil tender), at his new-ish online home for his awesome instructions. The tender is basically the same one I used before on my newer 4-4-0's, 2-8-0, and 2-6-0, although it's been stretched two studs for this loco. It's actually not much smaller than the original one Sava built for his Pacific. The cab controls. As you may have noticed, I'm using parts stolen from my 'Haunted Engine' project all over this engine as it wasn't exciting me that much anymore and I was running into issues with finding parts. Two orders down, two to go for this loco! (The rest of the parts are coming today / tomorrow.) I will update the main post when it's done. (as soon as I can) Also, I shortened the cab height of the other two locos in this thread. The really tall look was starting to bother me, so I shortened them to match the rest (well, 99%) of my trains. I don't think new pictures of those are coming, but you never know!

BrickShelf image deep linking - I am an idiot! It was me.

Sounds like Brickshelf is having issues, again, not EB. I hope this is only temporary, as too much of our collective history was lost when MOCpages went downhill, and then kaput. I honestly don't want to even *think* about Brickshelf going away someday... -
It's "Dances with Space Smurfs 2: Underwater!" and is basically a blatant money grab that took 12 years to write a semi-coherent plot to slap on top of. Wake me up if / when they do "Dances with Space Smurfs 3: the Musical"!

Piranha 2: The Spawning was his first directed film. I think that says enough!

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion

Whoever was the one who said they'll eat their Lego collection if this turns out to be real must be REALLY regretting saying that right now.... (I would quote them, but I can't find the post!) -
Answer to your last question about merchandising of the first film: short answer: No. long answer: kinda. There is a ride / area in one of the Disney parks (Paris, I think?) But I reallly don't think that counts as "merchandise". Personally, I think this film is gonna flop hard. All that money Disney spent on the nearly-completed third film and just-started fourth one will be wasted. This sequence of events will probably be later used as a warning to filmmakers and producers to not bite off more than they can chew. I mean, it's like betting on a horse that's not even race-ready to win the Kentucky Derby, and then upping the bet for several races after that when you haven't even run the first one. You can't tell me James Cameron isn't nervous about this film coming out... his whole future career is gonna be tied to pulling this off!

Thanks @Portal Out. Sorry, but the speaker isn't happening as it's only on the car for maybe 15-20 minutes. I'm not saying it's not a good idea, but as it isn't there the whole film (and it's not in the most memorable scenes), it's not going on my MOC. Also, looking at the prices of the CMF S11 figures (even parted out it was serious $), it occurred to me to make my own Blues Brothers figs to save money. It just makes more sense than spending more on the figs than the car. ($14 for the car, $24 for the two figs is ridiculous!)

Exactly. If renown / old famous brands equaled movie / toy success, the failed 2013 Lone Ranger would have been a smash hit as the famous radio serial plays from the 1930s and TV show from the '50s. (although the sets were awesome!) As far as the 1960's Planet of the Apes goes, I can safely say it's not gonna happen... nor is the 2001 reboot, or the 2010 re-reboot.

"We're on a mission from God." - The Blues Brothers I built this 1974 Dodge Monaco ex-cop car (AKA The Bluesmobile from the 1980 film "The Blues Brothers") from these free Rebrickable instructions by user @brickhead_07, but modified by me to fit two figures. (among other changes) I changed the inside details from tan to light bluish gray, and I had to raise the roof by a two plates to get the figures to fit. I also modified the bull-bar on the front of the car to be stronger. Sadly the Blues Brothers can't sit side by side, but the can fit one per row due to how the sides are built. Of course, what use is the Bluesmobile without a couple of Soul Men sitting inside? Now that I've covered the car and figures, Jake and Elwood have something to say in closing: "It's 106 miles to Chicago. We've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark, and we're wearing sunglasses.... HIT IT! EDIT 12/28/22: real life photos added

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion

Could be the concert hall from near the end of the original film. (Also, I refuse to acknowledge the existence the second film. I got about twenty minutes into it and it was unfunny and unwatchable) -

I like it! However, it needs the Blues Brothers playing with their band inside, with the Bluesmobile parked someplace nearby (slightly on the curb and double parked). It just screams for it! -
DC Superheroes 2022 - Rumors & Discussion
Murdoch17 replied to Clone OPatra's topic in LEGO Licensed
More like the last days of royal France: Handmaiden: "The people are starving, they are hungry for more DC comics LEGO. What will you do to help them?" Marie Antoinette: "Then let them have keychains!" (Yes, I know she never said the famous cake line, but it was too good an opportunity to pass up!) -
They're paying tons of money to a pop singer to mime a song (don't think she's actually singing live) and meanwhile we can't get lower prices. I think LEGO have totally lost their collective minds. (Granted, most of the other Rebuild the World adverts were tolerable, but now they're kind of getting stupid....)

Thanks @Paperinik77pk, and a bike isn't a bad idea! I'll see if I can fit it... I've used up a bunch of space putting in @Darkkostas25's ideas, but I'll see what I can do.
