The biggest problem will probably be the bricks discoloring from sustained direct sunlight.

Book II - Mitgardia: Guild sign-up and Discussion
gedren_y replied to Ecclesiastes's topic in Guilds of Historica
Non-Lego items can be tolerated when used for freebuilds, but for contests there are rules against certain things. Competitor building materials are very frowned upon in freebuilds, and a big NO in contests. Aftermarket weapons and bodywear are welcome. I once used a wooden container from a faux plant as a roof in one of my builds. I was able to incorporate it into the build, but this kind of thing should be used sparingly. -
UoP DoH +1 on all claims. You never disappoint Gideon.

I agree with Gideon on what you've claimed. UoP DoH +1 for your Shipping by Land claim only. You'd need better for the sideways rocks claim. While that bird is nicely done, it would only qualify for a third of a credit.

Wonderful build. The lighting for the photography could have been better.

Book II - Kaliphlin: Guild sign-up and Discussion

Since I have no plans to build for Challenge II, I may push to finish the Nestlands Market for this. It has sat for some time while other things have gone on here. There are Avalonians abroad in the east, but will soon want to return home with as many provisions as possible. Mitgardian shipping magnate, Lord Andrius Hierre is willing to offer working berths on any of his ships going as far as Eastgate for Avalonians in need of transport. Isn't it funny that from the Nestlands you have to travel west to get to Eastgate. -

Book II - Kaliphlin: Guild sign-up and Discussion
gedren_y replied to SkaForHire's topic in Guilds of Historica
On the map I have saved, there is an inlet bay due east of Qarkyr. It is a place where salt water meets fresh water. This is the most likely place in Kaliphlin for this. The image makes the buildings seem overgrown, and long out of use. I have always imagined the southern Rakath Mountains to be equatorial rainforest. This is how I have portrayed the unsettled areas of the Nestlands. I even did an LDD MOC of a swampy spring that was once a temple site long before the Nestlands Clans immigration. -
UoP DoH +1 on all claims. There you have it, you can add these to your approved credit list.

The Walmarts in my area (three) don't carry the CMFs, but Target and TRU do. Target has no mark-up, but their restock for CMFs can be spotty at best. Most recently my Target did away with even the CMF display stand, and hung them peg board style. I'll try to find out if they have the Simpsons CMF yet. Not likely though.

About the Nova figure, he is the Nova of the USM cartoon, which is Earth-1610. He has a different backstory to the Nova of the regular Marvel universe, which is Earth-616. Both the Novas I believe are currently Sam Alexander, but the first Nova in 616 was Richard Rider. He got his powers from the dying Rhomann Dey, a Nova Corps Centurion. The Nova Corps were the peacekeeping force of Xandar. The GOTG movie appears to be before the Annihilation storyline, and thus before the destruction of Xandar. The Nova Corps in the movie appear to be filling the role of the stock law enforcement that the 'heroes' have to get around to "save the day." The Guardians in the movie are basically space vigilantes. This storyline may even be set before Rhomann Dey passes his power to Richard Rider. That way Marvel could give us a movie with Nova some time down the line. The upcoming sets are okay, but then again I have no interest in buying sets to build Marvel. I want Ronan the Accuser for other theme purposes, so I may buy the first set we saw. I will probably buy the X-Jet set to part out, only keeping Wolverine and Storm the way they are. I won't call that plane the Blackbird, because Lego didn't get the SR-71 look right. Since we aren't getting Yondu, the other GOTG sets hold no appeal for me.

Here's what I think about the purple house. The bottom section is from an earlier construction. Perhaps the bottom of some long ago wizard's tower. The wooden 'Tudor' upper part looks more ramshackle, and the roof seems to be failing. A poor person's addition to a once much grander structure. In Sultan's Gate the new is built upon the old, but sometimes the new fails in quality comparison. As to the idea that Sultan's Gate might not have much wood: consider that this city is not far from the Rakath Mountains. While they are not as heavily forested as the northern end of the range, the southern mountains do have wood.

Book II - Kaliphlin: Guild sign-up and Discussion

Yeah. I'm not going to tell you how, though. If you want to know, read the book. It is worth the read. I may just dig out my copy tonight. We Kaliphlin are a very well read people. Our personal libraries can be quite extensive. -
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2014 Rumors & Discussion
gedren_y replied to just2good's topic in LEGO Licensed
Concerning what the mouthparts on the classic turtles are; Ralf covers it quite nicely in the New Line TMNT3 movie, "I have a beak, don't I?" The issue with the new movie is that these turtles are done through motion capture, not suits with animatronically controlled faces. People keep bringing up the issue of Michael Bay being connected with this film. I have posted this repeatedly: he is a producer on this film, not the director. -

Going to The Newberry, are you? See if they have a copy of Son of the Morning by Linda Howard. I'd find it wonderfully amusing if they do. -
UoP DoH +1 for all claims. The lighting isn't very dark. Screen brightness might be an issue. The last image, though, picks up the reflection of your camera and the space behind it.

Thanks everyone. They are this new part found in the Friends and Disney Princesses lines. Mine came out of Ariel's Magical Kiss. Lots of good Kaliphlin parts there. Yes. I did the photography outside, but there were not enough clouds in the sky for good diffused lighting. It didn't quite crack the 80 degree mark, but it came close. Exactly what I was going for. Being remembered in the University Library is an honor that should be given to all of the fallen defenders at the Battle of Queenscross.
