I see people lamenting Knights Kingdom II, but some of my favorite shields came from this theme. I know that the wholly colorful knights were a problem, but that is solvable by simply changing the hips, hands, helmets and some of the torsos to more neutral colors. The castle builds weren't as bad as the previous Knights Kingdom, and got quite innovative at the end. The idea that the king's castle could be altered to fit the enemy's colors was wonderful, just poorly executed. After the heavy good vs evil lines, I would like something more akin to classic Castle. Competing factions, yes, but neutral enough that the builder could decide who is the hero faction; who gets to be king. That way we could have more factions than just the two, and they could rotate. Fortresses with multiple color options so that we can choose to whom they belong. You could get your fantasy creatures and civilians there as well.

I just find it odd that they are targeting the guild's colors. Shouldn't those be another guild's colors, or are they preparing for an insurrection?- 22 replies

You just have to change the parameters on Bricklink from Best Price to Highest Quantity. And you can filter by country, or even just region, by clicking show more filter options. A quick search gave me the US store Queen Creek Bricks for quantity Uruk-hai parts. The dark red heads are $0.89 a piece, with 276 in stock. -

Some Nestlands merchants could use a space. The main products for outside trade are: weapons and metal ores, paints and dry pigments, and intricately woven cloth in vibrant colors. -
A Danny DeVito classic, Renaissance Man. Even though the phone technology in the beginning dates it a little, the movie is still holds up.

I get the want to make a big entrance. I certainly did when I created the Nestlands Clans of the Armored Eagle Goddess. My first build was far from what I wanted it to be, but I took my time in creating a narrative and backstory. From your questions and the ideas you've put forth, I think you have a good story coming. GOH is a long running thing. Like others have said, you have plenty of time. There is always the LDD option. Myself and others have done them to great effect, though their value as freebuilds is less, and no aftermarket parts. It is also a good way to experiment with building techniques, and use as a template when you get the parts you need for a real build. You can also create fantasy builds with parts in colors that they were never produced in. Check out my Gurree Spring. -

I think the original issue was that DG's build is stated in the storyline as new construction. Now, if the materials used in the construction were actually repurposed stone from an older structure (that did happen quite often) a weathered look may be appropriate. -
[in room ten Doc Gooshi is tending to the wounded Cedrica guardsman. There are groans, grunts and the occasional curse, but the wounded man wasn't in any serious danger. Ehfrik prods the remaining guards for information.] Ehfrik Daffys: How do ya figur dey got in da city. Ah doubt dey'd be sneekin' in wit da workers doin' da rebuidn'. Guardsman Hirum: We don't think so. From the way the bodies looked, these Hand orcs may have been hiding in the city ever since Revolword's defeat. Ehfrik Daffys: Ya said six? Iffin' der's dat big a group been hidin' out, den dey mus' 'ave an empteh house somewheres. Iffin' dat's so, den der's probleh even more. Guardsman Hirum: Aye, and when Dom over there is finished with his stitches, I'll be heading back to the guard tower to make my report. You and yours will probably be on the wall, while those of us who know the city best search the unoccupied houses. Ehfrik Daffys: Den I'll let youse take care of yer own, Hirum. Hope ta be seein' ya again, under better circ'm'sanzzes. [Ehfrik left for his own room. There he looked over at each of the Zuurees. Each had an empty restorative vial near their sleep limp hands. Ehfrik stripped out of his armor and gambeson. Suddenly the rigors of the day seemed to land on his shoulders. Holding his head with his left hand, Ehfrik pulled out his restorative with his right. He plopped onto his bed, dislodging the stopper of the vial in the process. Ehfrik downed the liquid quickly, knowing full well that he would be out before the vial fell from his hand. Just as he goes under, Efhrik mutters. . .] Ehfrik Daffys: Ah've better not 'ave a butt drawn on mah face in da mornin.

Wonderful idea. The Nestlands Clans have long been aware that there had been other peoples living in the area they now inhabit. -

Welcome to GOH SarahJoy. The Nestlands Clans of the Armored Eagle Goddess recognize Ruahd as a good trade partner. Much of the vibrant paints and dyes found in Kaliphlin come from Nestlands base pigments. Ruahdi artisans are welcome in the trade city of Cobalt Vale. -
About the Sports bases, an early GOH builder (a Mitgardian I believe) used them for a small tower. I had already planned to use those pieces in my intro when I saw the build, and the use was different enough that most haven't made the connection. I have quite a few in tan, green and sand green, and will probably buy some more in other colors. There are lots of possibilities there. Behemoth, if you look closely, my sigfig Sdair has the Mad-Eye Moody head. I have some other rare/expensive figure parts in the build as well. What I lack in photography skill, I try to make up for in my stories. I can craft quite a yarn, can't I? I hope everyone likes the secondary silliness I added to this build. I had been meaning to use the Martian Manhunter figure for a while now, and bought the white Brickforge hair and vambraces specifically for him. I enjoyed this build, and am sorry I had to dismantle it for parts.

The sand technique is one I've used before a couple of times. It was inspired by something I saw in an MOC a while ago. That builder (can't remember who) had used those round plates in dark bley to create a stone footpath on a green baseplate. There is also a technique using those to create a cobblestone street, but it is parts intensive. The Squidward head was a last minute change from a standard orc head. Some of those licensed figure parts can be difficult to find a use for if you don't build in those themes. I was lucky that I had it mixed in with my orc figure parts. It gave the scene the needed comic edge.

Yup, that's the one. As to Behemoth's question about lore, I was referring to actual mythology when I mentioned the Tuatha De Danaan. It was just a referent of how to play the metal limbs as a backstory. In other mythology, returning a soul to their body after it has been raised as a zombie is supposed to keep it from eventually rotting. -

Zombies are not a rare occurrence in GOH. Dugal was brought completely back from the dead. There are half-humanoid half-non-humanoid creatures in GOH. There was even a Challenge build at the end of Book I that had a large humanoid/spider. You want to do major arcana, then build the quest to gather the necessary ingredients, or the sacred item. Tell the story of the finding what is needed, make it engaging, and make sure it truly fits in GOH. My current builds I am working on are for the Quest for the Egg of the Armored Eagle Goddess. Returning the Goddess whom the Nestlands Clans worship to 'flesh'. This is a major undertaking for my character, Sdair Zuuree. Several builds, including battles and strange meetings. I already have the Egg and the Goddess' bird form ready to go, but bringing a Goddess back into the world shouldn't be easy so I am planning around five more builds before I build where the Egg lies. I am planning seven in total on just Quest for the Egg. That's not including the two LDD builds I have in the works, and a few Ambassador builds. Quest for the Egg should take quite some time. Hopefully I will be done early enough to build for Challenge IV in Kaliphlin. I will leave it up to the Guild Leaders to decide if they want to use the storyline from An Ancient Treasure for the larger story purposes. -

We Kaliphlin have black oil. It was the subject of a small community challenge not too long ago. The Nestlands Clans have designed distiller pots to purify our local water (too mineral rich to drink). I'm with Damaximus about the tech replacing people doing work, though. All 'inventions' have to be something created by craftsmen, and take a long time to produce. As to metal limb replacements, there is a mythological basis for this. In the myth of the Tuatha de Danaan, Dian Cecht (healer fey) created a silver arm for Nuada (fey king) when he lost his in battle. It just has to be powered by magic, and take a powerful mage to do it. Given your character type, I would say an alchemist would be your route. -
We have to consider why Europa was never produced. The closest that came to that was a few of the Harry Potter sets and a couple of the POTC sets. A new Steampunk theme would be welcome. Monster Fighters gave us some of those elements, but it was too all over the map

I use a variety of containers. I have several Lego set containers of varying sizes, a few classroom size marker boxes, a large number of craft storage bins of varying sizes, lots of gallon and sandwich bags, five round candy corn/pumpkins/Autumn mix containers (clear), three TLG Advent Calendar trays, a few cardboard boxes and two large Sterilite containers. This reminds me, I have to give my parts a good sorting soon. -
In the beginning of the Fleshtone Era, I gave most of them away. But as time wore on, and more diverse fleshtones became available, I found myself integrating them into my collection. Now I use all tones, though I do try to keep the head and hand tones matching the neckline when need be. TLG's official stance is that all only licensed figures get the fleshtone treatment, as they are representing actors or intellectual property. Back to the future of Castle. I would prefer a reboot of Vikings, but given the current panel part changes we would have to wait for a 4x1x5 Log panel and longer palisade bricks to be developed. TLG has been slowly teasing us with Greek/Roman figures in in the CMF lines. There is already a number of parts for various monsters of myth, as well as new weapons molds. This seems to be something that could very well be in the pipeline, but I doubt any time soon. People talk about a return of Kingdoms. I would be okay with that, but I doubt it will happen. For marketability right now, TLG would need an action oriented theme, which the current Castle is. A Robin Hood type theme is probably the logical outgrowth from the current line. Civilian type characters that could be used with the current line, and less fortification builds that limit action. With this, I would envision at least one smaller variation on the Star Wars Endor build. This would make long time AFOLs happy, and give young builders something to really play with.

A little something about technology in Historica: no guns. What little gunpowder has been worked with is too unstable. The closest to any real firearms that can be made are highly reinforced bombards, and those are few and far inbetween. The practical reason behind this decision by the Staff is to keep Historica in a Medieval Fantasy realm, and avoid straying into Steampunk with fantasy elements. -
The golem idea has been in the works since the end of Book I, but had to wait until I finished some more important story builds. I think the Mark 3 Iron Man armor works quite well. The ceiling tiling is rather simple. For the tan tiles, I bought the Friends buildable jewelry box. It had lots of those inverted 2x2 tiles. for the reddish brown tiles, I used a technique known as "Defying the Brick with the U-Clip." The Brickarms u-clip can be used for snot techniques to connect the bottoms of thin plates/tiles together. This technique also should not violate the contest rule about non-Lego parts, as it is an aftermarket accessory intended to be used with Lego.
