Welcome to the Nestlands Trading Post! Here you'll find paints, pigments, dyes (for hair and cloth), rare herbs, fine weapons in the Nestlands style, and three journeyman craftsmen ready to take commissions. The proprietor's name is Yhllip Prws. The three craftsmen are Joc Rud, Gwylm Kensy and Dugl Duhbgehs. ----------------------- A little history on the building: Located in the market district of Mpya Stedor, it began as nothing more than a stone warehouse for storing ale that hasn't had time to age. Some time in the late expansion of Mpya Stedor Apothecary Tolin leased the space, and renovated the exterior to be more eye catching. The north and south walls were given some low curving additions, the small windows were surrounded by a light blue paint, two columns were installed on the front corners, the doorway was widened and given an arch, and a small gable was installed with additional arch supports. Apothecary Tolin plied his trade there for quite some time, making and selling ointments, unguents, and restorative herbal teas. This all changed just before the Battle of Mpya Stedor. For a few weeks before the battle, Tolin was experimenting with a small amount of 'exploding powder' that he acquired from a strange source. He thought that he could reproduce the powder, and maybe improve upon it. Make it an effective weapon to repel the horde most knew was on its way. No one is certain how all the powder was ignited at once, but witnesses claim to have seen a blinding white flash, then a large plume of black smoke. Next the flames roared to life, causing most of Tolin's wares to ignite. The building was nothing more than a smoldering shell when the fire was finally put out. Luckily no other buildings were damaged by the fire, Unluckily Tolin's body was blown into tiny shards of bone and lumps of flesh, that were subsequently cooked by the fire. Only a few fragments of bone survived well enough to be collected for burial. Some time after the Battle of Mpya Stedor, the building and lot were purchased by the Blue Walkers Trading Company out of the Nestlands. The Company rebuilt the interior, added the large eagle head carvings, completely redesigned the roof, and repainted the exterior (preserving the original paint around the windows). Additionally, a small alter was placed in the loft where any Nestlands faithful is welcome to pray. ----------------------- Today outside the Nestlands Trading Post: It is mid afternoon in Mpya Stedor, the building's door is closed, and the windows are shuttered. Gwylm Kensy's current work, new tabletops for a restaurant and inn. Joc Rud has finished his commision for the Aslanic Order soldiers. It is assumed these large carvings are intended to be placed outside the soldiers' barracks. Dugl Duhbgehs is repairing armor for a battle camel. Lady Eddira Rendelberry has been waiting several minutes, wondering why the trading post is closed on such a nice day. She is looking to buy more hair dye. Squire Rikhard 'Redbird' Greisun spies the Lady Rendelberry waiting impatiently. He had been meaning to find time to speak with her alone, but keeping troops well prepared to defend the city leaves little time for courting. "Good Lady," Rikhard cooed joyfully, "Why are you waiting here in the sun, at this time of day? Don't you know?" "Know what, good Squire?" Eddira rejoindered, "Why Lady Rendelberry, these Nestlands men are at their daily prayers," Rikhard says softly, "They will be at it for at least an hour, or more. Please allow me to escort you to the Court Dining Hall, where you may wait with a cool drink. On my account." The Lady is about to take the Squire's hand when one of the Market Guards (a greedy sot) spies them and begins to rush over. In his head, there is an idea that the Squire is making some kind of deal with the Lady, and he wants in. However, he slows to a stop short, with a scared stupid grin, when the Squire glares at him for his intrusion on the private moment. -------------------------------- More details of the building. The carvings are a stylized representation of the Armored Eagle Goddess. They were brought all the way from Cobalt Vale, and mounted with care by expert masons. The roof is a new design intended to provide perches and roosting for the local birds. Anyone who tries to harm any birds in the vicinity of this trading post will be reported, and banned from the premisses. (OOC: Brickarms crates!) (OOC: Best image I could get of the window shutter. Lid to a Brickarms crate.) ------------------------------------- Comments appreciated. I am also seeking UoP DoH credits. Architecture: Roofing (1 of 3) Anthropology: City Scene

What if Lego goes with a more anime style of elf, and recolors the LOTR orc hair?

DM, I should have my photos edited and up tonight. Then you can add the Nestlands Trading Post to your Mpya Stedor thread. The build, not counting overhang, is 22x24. I have a backstory for the building that will explain the mild deviation from the normal Mpya Stedor architecture. Also, the lady in the scene is the Lego Movie's Wild West Wildstyle. I haven't yet decided on a name for the lady, but Squire Greisun will be courting her. -
Since I have no interest in building any existing IP themes, this is fine with me. I also have no problem with putting fleshies next to yellows, just not on the same fig. I'm in it for the Lego, and without licensing costs you get better price per piece.

Yes, there are a couple of pieces that can't be used, like the hairpieces and headgear that are designed from specific props that are copyrighted materials. Some hairstyles with elf ears, if generic enough, can be reused. I doubt the wargs will be reusable, but changing the head part may get around that. I was really surprised to see the PoP dagger make it into the LOTR line, so sometimes TLG does negotiate the rights to reuse a part design for other themes. It all depends on what TLG has the right to do with its molds after the license has ended.

Would you like the Vikings theme to return?
gedren_y replied to Alfadas's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I have been playing with my LDD, and came up with a nice fantasy Viking ship. It isn't enough for a set, as it would need some objective or action, but it is only 270 pieces currently. This is just a rough design. Here's a LDD glamor shot. I still haven't got the hang of the POV Ray rendering, so that will have to wait. I had to go with a brick built sail, but I think it came out quite nice. A geometric dragon head. An idea I may change. I played with some different looks for the Viking figures using the available prints in LDD. There is a way to get your own designs added to the pallet, but like the render program, it will have to wait. I'll stand up the figures later for a better look. I also found that the Heroica axe makes a better hand weapon than the clip version from the original line. The newer longsword looks more like a real Viking longsword than the version from the original line too. Someone posted that real Viking helmets sometimes had wings, so I tried the large dwarven helmet on my commander. I'm not sold. The berserker came out better. Notice, I feed my Vikings with more than just meat. It took a while to get that food into the box. The existing prints for the new round shield work just fine, but also tried to mimic a Viking style shield I saw in a Museum Replicas catalog. I did something similar for a GOH figure. That mast rotates nearly thirty degrees in both directions, and the bars allow the figures to do the rotating. The bottom hull of the ship is made from parts Lego used to make the airplanes. The moment I saw the bottom nosecone piece in LDD, I knew I was going to use it in a boat. Two more warriors and (a bit of artistic license) a white wizard. The smaller dwarven helmet actually looks like a couple of Viking helmets I've seen, though I think I should have colored it in reddish brown or dark brown. I also played with the stereotypical Viking horned helmet. Hopefully that horn part isn't exclusive to the Star Wars line. It makes for a great ram's horn. The gladius makes a passable Viking short sword, and the Heroica sword in the wizard's staff looks a little like a seax. Yes, I used the Unikitty tail. Lego has to make more use of the mold eventually. What would Vikings be without their plunder? This also took a bit of rigging to do. The back view shows you that I tried to give my figures a back and a front. I'll revisit this later, with better pics of the boat minus the figs. -

I haven't had good weather for photography, but hopefully I will get some good pics of the Nestlands Trading Post in Mpya Stedor tomorrow. I got one shot of the back under bad lighting. The Aslanic Order soldiers have commissioned three signs. -

That's why the Nestlands are lush, but the high concentration of metals makes groundwater undrinkable without distillation. Good thing that the Clans had distillation before the Great Migration 2200 years ago. The dwarves of Mitgardia have had it even longer. -

Kaliphlin also has tropical forest mountain terrain in the southeast. -
I missed out on all but one dinosaur Lego set, and that was from Dino Attack (US release). I love my flexible mutant dino, but would be happy to have a more brick built design.

All this talk of buildings in other cities got me building. In less than four hours I have built the Nestlands Trading Post in Mpya Stedor. I built it closed, as the proprietor and staff are at their daily prayers. I have included Squire Rikhard 'Redbird' Greisun, a Market Guard (one that went to Cobalt Vale and got upgraded equipment), and a Mpya Stedor lady hoping to purchase some more hair dye. I'll try to have it photographed tomorrow. -
UoP DoH +1 for Architecture: Round Walls and Towers. You probably should add the claim to this thread, as the UoP thread can easily be bumped from the first page.

I love the lines of lavender. It makes it feel as if the building existed first, and was ornamented by MAESTRO. UoP DoH +1 on both claims.

You'd be surprised by how some Bionicle and Technic pieces can be used. There are some great plant and creature applications, as well as internal structure for your builds. There are some minifig scale weapons from the Bionicle line that might be a good fit for your orcs. They take up nearly half this page on Bricklink. They are mostly flat silver and pearl light grey, but a good number of them would pass as orc made things. -

Toywiz out of New York has several customizers' parts including Brickarms, Brickforge and Brick Warriors, though their selection may be limited in all but Brickarms. They also have loose Lego parts, custom printed/painted figures and parts, BrickStix brand reusable decals, and minifig stands by Minifig World and Catspaw Customs. For more brands of customizers, click Minifig Pro in the M section of Shop All Brands. Sorry if I this seems like a commercial. -

I am partial to Brickarms for blades, but have a good bit of Brickforge as well. I have a bunch of (now discontinued) green and sand green colored Brickforge Falcatas for use as plant material in an upcoming build. If you want some magical looking blades, Brickforge is a good place as a number of the weapons are available in trans colors and glow in the dark. Brickarms has a good cobalt color which is close to the Lego color called metal blue on Bricklink. Brickarms also does chrome more frequently, and has done chrome blue and chrome red. -

Urf! DM, is Squire Rikhard 'Redbird' Greisun among the assembled troops? He has proven himself a capable battlefield commander with a mixed group of soldiers at the Battle at the Ruins of Mehd. What did Lord Damaximus do with that piece of wyrm bone he brought back with him? The Kaïn Revolword storyline from An Ancient Treasure is available for use. I'll be a little busy with Quest for the Egg, and have some pieces of Nestlands Market on my building surface. One of them is a Mitgardian trading post, so we'll see Lord Andrius Hierre again soon.
