-good it was fun to build that killerhurtz and automate the firing trough sbrick, I can provide you lxf if you want to take a look ;) good luck -as said try using a M motor with only normal gear, even a double 1.6:1 gearing will be fine to move that scoop, if you don't want to have the motr near the scoop you can add a liftarm as lever

[TC11] Son of Aminnich
PKW replied to aminnich's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
All the idea looks really cool, but I think racecar/smooth wheels + gears are a better combo than offroar wheels, because it looks like that mechanism has a lot of friction don't it? Good luck with that top spinner idea! Looking forward to see the "disk" since it should be really though -
1) i scale my robot to fit in a 33x33cm square and use only 1 BB so i think i'll stick on this sizes and limitations due to the fact i think bigger lego bots are just inefficient and often results only an artistic form of a sluggish robot with no fun 2) i have an 80.5g sipping disk at 2030 rpm, it is not that bad, it can easily flip bots up to 600g more or less, break lego parts and dismount lego connection 3) too bad lego pneumatic system it highly inefficient for a flipper unless you are working with 10bar and modified pistons, the defaults settings make lego pistons too slow and really difficult to store a decent amount of air, my old flipper bot was able to flip 1kg of robot with no problem and even start causing structural damages after 3-4 flips, with unlimited (unless battery discharge) number of flips, if you are curious just visit my brickshelf or my youtube, don't want to reveal everyone the mechanism for free ahahah (in the brickshelf foldere there is a lxf file too) another option, since pneumatics are so slow they only lift and not flip, linear actuators are just better at this edit: just to clarify, the bot of mine i was talking about is a vertical spinner, not an horizontal one this and the fact of having two little lifting wedges make te robot able to lift the opponent (3-4cm) and hit it from the bottom/side with a more effective angle

Don't forget momentum! Having the rubber part (heavier) of the motorcycle wheels on the largest diamever produce a better flywheel effect than the same mass but distributed in all the wheel area, so more weight on the edge can lead to a lighter disk with same energy (at same speef) and so less power consumed by friction and more speed: everything better!
-
There are more simple way to build more heavier and deadly spinner blades: one is the use of motorcycle tyre as weight, I achieved to directly break lego parts with that, not sure if I will rework that spinner for my entry, still have to choose if build my most powerful flipper arm with out reload or a sliding disk that spin up and then slide again the opponent to maximise the momentum (something like dead metal saw, but faster)

DAY #3: FLIPPY short recap of statistics: name: FLIPPY description: a really compact flipper, the first with single motor operated winch reloaded flipper! signature move: flipping arm weight class: 500g motor used: 2x M for drive, 1x XL for weapon drive: 2WD on the back notes: reallly effective with flipping 500g robots but no srimech PHOTOS: LXF FILE FOR LDD l_flippy.lxf- 7 replies

this means (A) that if i build a modular weapon attachment (as bombshell) i can show building of both weapons on the [TC11] topic but i must show only one on the entry reply, or (B) that i must choose one weapon before starting the [TC11] topic, i'm not talking of operating functions, but weapon that need to be changed in the pit like this http://robotwars.wikia.com/wiki/File:InterchangeableScoops.jpg but mine will be not two parts of a weapon but two different weapons
-
can i make a bombshell replica? it has modular weapon so a flywheel, an axe and a horizontal spinning bar, i read in the rules that "things cannot be attached or detached, this refer to battle mode only or also to storage mode? easily removable battery box (and maybe room to swap from lipo to normal BB) is counted as illegal? because lots of real robots has this feature and it really matter to change batteries or charge them without wasting time for repairs. (spent time reading again all 8 pages + rules , haven't found anything about that)

make a try if you already own one, but don't expect the bot to be really faster but at least more powerful, also if v1 works good i would suggest to use them instead of v2 and maybe overload the batteries, mainly because if you shut down the main battery box you'll loose control of the other receiver too -
I'm who (almost) have big sizes in lego, because they make pieces more important than unique solutions and hard-thinking about the project, I have only a word: AWESOME I love how you fit even a gearbox in there! I have only a question, how shock absorbing work with the real drivertrain?

V2 and V1 difference us only on "power" sustained, while v1 will cut off power before battery cut off, the v2 will use maximum power provided by the batteries, but no increase in voltage so I don't think you'll gain speed unless your motor have an high load and require more power to run at full rpm -

Weapons speed is OK and u really like the new superstructure, but that bot is really slow, it could be out maneuvered by other bot and pitted/flipped or attached on the weak points. For what i've said about front wheel drive and weapon motor under the blade look at "robot wars APEX", sorry for not providing photos but can't resize them and the photo I found on Google are too big to be posted- 10 replies

Agreed with agrof I would avoid u joints and I suggest not to use small bevel gear, I stead use a 5:1 reduction with some levers that will may have some lifting power too, unless you just want to fold the bucket on the top of the bot so I would suggest only a 3:1 geared motor and not that waste of space and weight with an XL In the real battle bots gravity operated function aren't forbidden so you could also unbalance the scoop and then swing back and forth once to make it rotate in position EDIT no, by the rules unmotorized folding is forbidden Color scheme us great!

Also rectangular footprint with length bigger than wide is another skid steer killer But this thing has car steering? Because I see some strange levers on the from wheels, good luck with this wheeled bulldozer!

Excellent build, sad I have not those big wheels because it is in size and weight to attend one of my lego robot combat video, I have only some questions: Are the rear moving tail powerful or it is just a fun move that maybe can help in combat? The square footprint is really good for skid steering, but since you said that those wheels are more grippy than lego ones, how does it turn? Are you planning to use am SBRICK or move the receiver? Because it looks like it is covered my many pieces and control won't be so easy, at least I can say you'll replicate radio interferences that caraterized the firsts series of robot wars! edit: also the scoop has a lot of ground clearance, I know you don't fear flippers, but maybe grabbers or lifter can really have an advantage of that, are you considering to make some hinged parts to lower the ground clearache or the strategy will be to move backward and use the rear ones? -

First congratulations to the photo quality and look of the bot, then a couple of critics/suggestion: I found the front wheels a really weird/bad choice mainly because wheels are so on the back that you are wasting all your momentum to turn, are you considering from wheel drive or caster wheels? Slow and sluggish bot never win ;) For the weapon, coupling xl motor is not a really good idea for a spinner, it has a lot of mass so high rpm are not necessary but i'll focus on mechanism efficency (like you can move the motor under the disk and so you won'the have the weight problem, and even remove the turntable because they really have too many frictions, lego axles works good even with weight but it is better to swap to 2 battery for battery box, more speed and less friction ) The armour looks really solid, but all the angle moving mechanics looks really unstable and not male to absorb impact from a so big disk. Another thing: worm gears are really inefficient with logo, of you use an equivalent ratiobut with gears only you'll a gain up to 50% power, so maybe you can reduce the ration by half and have more speed but same power Looking forward to the next regicide!- 10 replies

My bot will have no weak points muahahahah Well no i'm just overthinking my ideas because it has a lot of features that are not limited/ruled in the rules but as the dummy bot there can be hidden rules that won't allow them despite being allowed by original rules so i'm waiting to collect all this "rules lacks" and ask them when i'll finish my showcase topic, I still have to make lots of video and ldd files for it. 2nd thing I still wait to build my new arena for filming other videos a boy bots and I would like to start the topic with some hints and the arena (that will be finished later in march) I have and idea but not sure if this will be accepted: Using a copy of the entry as dummy bot: -no "robot made to be destroyed" because dummy weaknesses will be you entry weaknesses -no "gain vote for dummy" as it is legal to gain vote for the entry -no secondary build in the main topic If someone say "who has got lots of brick will have and advantage because can build a dummy-copy"... Every lego contest is mostly a question of who has more bricks and not only more skill this is pretty obvious so I don't think this is a problem I'm still waiting to know if I can use lego official sets or cardboard boxes with weights as a dummy "thing"

Great! Looking forward to a video, but I recommend not going to hight with weight, I know L motors are 150% more powerful than M but they always have limits. -

Looks good overall but how it steers? Because I always had lots of problems with 4wd steering (with different motors and gearing, like 1:1 xl or 1,6:1 M) -
[APP] BrickController2
PKW replied to imurvai's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
It does but you need the to be the phone root user and use some kernel (or even a paid app) to find controller id, so it actually doesn't on most samsung phones, I think some Sony should have BT keys for linking to ps3 controller as mac computer but i'm not sure- 1,316 replies

DAY #2: BITY (actually this is day 3 but with days i just want to show the number of robots already showcased, also i can post day #3 only on Monday or after) short recap of statistics: name: BITY description: it is just the outcome test for a solid 4x4 drive and a double winch mechanism, it has no armour but a lot of funciotn in a really small space! signature move: GRABBER weight class: 500g motor used: 3x M for drive, 1x L for weapon drive: 4WD but it mostly drive with only 2 wheels on the ground notes: it can carry up to 500g (a full bot) but it is really difficult to bite and keep in the jaw other lego bots PHOTOS: LXF FILE FOR LDD bity.lxf- 7 replies

ok @Milan i'll take care of posting videos about my future bot fights after the competition ends in order not to influence voting(but i'll use them to vote other creations ahahahaha), if i can ask (also on behalf of who was asking there) is this limitation restricted to "you must not use your bot against any of your MOC/builds/objects to show its signature move" or something like "what really matters is that you'll show only one bot and don't try to influence voting by creating a specifically designed dummy bot (and so any of your MOC for pars conditio) but it is ok to test it again lego sets/boxes/brick walls objects fruits ad so on". i'm asking this just because i read the rules a lot of tie and since my first question i can't find any hit about dummy rules and so on, so i'm also here to suggest to add the outcome of this discussion to save new contestants form reading 6 pages or from asking already solved questions.
