I also understand the color vomit.....don't approve, but understand it. When the reasoning remains to help certain people build it I can accept it as a consequence of building a kids toy. However, there is still some of me that thinks it is due to laziness. An orange fan for the engine? In what world would that be correct? An ice-cream truck perhaps, but not an off-road crane, especially when the engine is exposed? I know that is only one piece, but it is one that is exposed on the outside and I can't help but think it says something about the overall model's color vomit.

Sorry. I am an idiot. Not pneumatic bracket, large linear actuator bracket. In the .lxf file, if one goes to "building mode" - on step 361 of 452 it shows one of these brackets being placed around the area where the operator would be. not sure what this is here.....

I wish i had time to comment on every MOC post. Reality is, no one does. Still, i try to comment when i can and when something really stands out. Which this build does. I love the compactness, its functionality, really, i love everything about it. Something i would like to own.

This is a terrific topic, but I do feel that I add a different spin on things. I see less change in my building "style" and more in my overall approach to the hobby as a function of determinants that drive it (for me). probably an unnecessarily complicated way of saying it, but essentially I see my approach to the hobby changing as my needs for the hobby change. For example, right now (well, for the last few years) my employment has taken a good, but increasingly demanding toll on me. Though I still come home with sufficient energy to build, it is more passive than active. Or at least more passive than it has been in the past. Not so passive that regular, official Lego builds satisfy me, but more complicated MOCs from some renowned builders do. On top of that, adding changes or improvements have also been a lot of fun for me during this period. I think creating one's own MOC is more challenging, but more importantly, as least for me, there seems to be some unwritten element of ownership when building a MOC that is additionally taxing. I find it really interesting that I have no problem leaving a build of someone elses MOC for weeks on end if I cannot get to it; but if it is a MOC it is generally somewhat taxing to leave something for any amount of time without working on it. I seem to have this subtle, yet present, sense of "unfinished business" that I find unsettling..... For some reason a MOC is a my "project" and I have enough of those going on at work. When completing something of others, or improving it in my mind it doesn't seem to take on that definition. Its just a way to relax. Like watching television or something. Anyways, this is a change I have seen in my approach to the hobby in the last several years. But it seems to work for me. I seem to be enjoying the hobby as much as ever, and more importantly it seems to be as restorative as ever so that when I get back to work I feel rejuvenated.....

Truck or tank? Hardly a more efficient machine this thing is entirely awesome. Here in the US, there are trucks and jeeps here and there, with some sticker reading something to the tune of "Zombie Apocalypse response team". This kinda reminds me of that but much better and thoroughly thought out. My favorite is the wedge part. Seems like you could just blow through zombie hordes with no problems. Thanks for sharing this....

Easy enough to find. Thanks for sharing. Wont write a ton about it at this point in time, but overall I like it. IMO, I actually think the functions are fairly smooth. Fairly generic functions for a mobile crane, but they work about as well as can be expected. I think I heard a lot of either actual observations, or perhaps it was just speculation, that the outriggers actually lift the vehicle. From the video, it does not appear that they can. Can someone verify/correct me?

Anto - Thanks for the instructions to your newer model (in reply to my request on your newer excavator thread). When the instructions to the newer model were posted; however, I had already begun building your older version (in blue). Below are some pictures.... And here is a video of it operating. One of the better NMOCs that I have built, and I have built quite a few. Had to change a few things to the exterior to make it in blue. Made it a little challenging given that in several spots exterior pieces actually either help the interior remain intact or provide pinholes for other exterior pieces. As mentioned by others, difficult to imagine there are eight motors in this thing, with nine functions! But I can confirm this is true! The LDD file was somewhat difficult to follow, and there were several errors and missed pieces, but all's well that end's well. Still, I kinda improvised in terms of where the pneumatic switch went and to this day I still never figured out what the pneumatic cylinder bracket in the operator's area is for. Overall, very fun to not only build but play with, educational and complex! Very well done. Thanks Anto and the makers/maintainers of rebrickable!

Funny, the Volvo loader video was not taken down even though both were posted about the same time.

Tatra T-813 8x8 Kolos
nerdsforprez replied to Sariel's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Really enjoy your builds Sariel, and this one is no different. Filled with examples for non-experts like myself to learn from, and looks are pristine and accurate. One issue that I am not so sure of however, is the speed of the vehicle. I know in the intro. you mentioned how you tire of slow tatras, but in real life, especially when they are climbing or going through difficult terrain, they are slow. In all your models you really strove for accuracy, looks-wise it is very accurate. But no one would drive that fast over the terrain showed in the video. Vehicle looks choppy not like a lot of fun to drive. At least my perception when watching you drive it was that you had to be very careful and hyper-aware. Probably could have used some down-gearing, or at least progressive throttle, so it was not so jerky. -

I think you make some very accurate points, and I am not a Lego Apologist... granted, most basic of functions should work out of the box - point well taken. At the same time, in my mind, my main point stands. Even if there are flaws in the set, the ire with such seems to depend on one central assumption - and that is that one will build the set, leave it for ages, and never touch it again. That is seeing something from a static perspective. And I know some to that - which is fine, but odd for Lego IMO. However, if one sees something, even with all its flaws, but sees what it potentially can be that is another story. I think discussion about the strengths and weaknesses of the set from a dynamic perspective would be more inviting (at least for me). Granted, this is exactly what the 42083 modification thread is all about. I still think the Jeep analogy is apt. No one complains about stock Jeeps and their limitations/shortcomings because they know they will be gone and changed out for something better. The soul is a great out-door vehicle is there - the appendages can all be changes/updated. No one who is an avid out-door driver buys it to keep it stock. Perhaps a better comparison would be RC buggy/trucks. I have several. I would not even be in the hobby of RC truck driving if I could not update my truck- ALOT. My complaints with a set would actually be a truck that didn't need any modifications. Sure I buy a model or two with some grave limitations.... and I believe I have some valid points/complaints to make of some trucks. But..... the producers left them modifiable, and so I guess I don't understand the energy that goes in to the complaints. I don't see the point because right from the get-go I expected to change things even before I buy a truck/buggy. Driving alone gets too boring...... -

Really great observations. I really appreciate the comparison of the latest Lego supercars to real supercars. I am still entertained with the amount of complaints we get of official Lego sets that view the sets as static entities. Though there are some, they are relatively few; comments about part packs, possibilities, etc. I can't believe that we have AFOLs purchasing sets viewing them from their static disposition, rather than their possibilities. Some complain and complain..... others get to work fixing and revamping.... Just like the Porsche, in no time, with just a few modifications I am sure we will have an enviable set. If nothing else an incredible parts pack for some cool MOCs that are bound to be released. For those that followed the Porsche-hype train, the additional part packs that led the 42056 to respectability was very small. Perhaps detractors might say, "well for XXX dollars it should come out perfect!" - again, I don't understand that logic. "Perfect" right out of the box Lego set? Almost sounds like an oxymoron. Lego is soooo much more than just something to assemble. Assembly versus building are two very important distinctions here. Almost like buying a Jeep and leaving it stock for its whole lifespan. Nearly no one does it. And if one does..... most in the crawling community looks at them as if they are martians from outer space or something...... -

Someone is making pretty bold remarks about 42082. This and the comment about the "bearings" supporting the turntable (on the 42082 thread). Me thinks someone has either a copy or seen it very close up in person -
Surprised there havent been further leaks on this set. Is this because the release date isnt until 1 aug?

MOC RC Truck 8x8 ATV
nerdsforprez replied to Technic BOOM's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Not understanding the reason why you are not creating a single topic and then posting all your builds under that. I get that is not standard for every builder, but making multiple posts for different MOCs usually occurs over months or even years. When you have 9-10 MOCs to share in a week, IMO best to just create one thread. A thread for every single MOC just gums up the forum..... -

nerdsforprez replied to Jurss's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Actually, color vomit exists in tons of other Lego lines. Some of which others have already pointed out, and I will add the SW UCS series has a lot of color vomit in the interior, chassis parts, which, I might add, are about as tailored to adults as one can get. I agree with you, I don't like it either, but your statement above is not correct. -
So I get all the attention is on the Bugatti - and on Friday the first of Jun a lot more information on the set will come out. But my first priority for the summer remains on this set. Happy that the leaking is somewhat contained..... can we expect a deluge of unveiling on the first for this set like we are for the Bugatti?

Justified or not, not sure I can bypass the color vomit. The thread posted earlier this week could not have come at a better time. Great new pieces (no wonder why the secrecy) but the vomit for some reason makes me feel less that I am doing something I can defend myself against on poker night and more that I truly am just playing with a childs toy. I was afraid of clowns as a kid and I am still.... and this car doesn't help any. -
Look at the whole post not the picture. The picture on the post is from someone else. Personally, I don't really know how helpful thread would actually be. The trick is to wrap it with official Lego silicone elastics. This keeps it legal. Elastics have a exponential holding force.... unlike string. @Didumos69 used it on his recent build and I have used it successfully on many of my prior builds. But as you mentioned, if you are team illegal..... then ignore this and continue on!
