Not saying I would do it if I entered since it isn't in the spirit of the competition, but it is very easy to hide extra parts on a model, very, very easy. And most likely you would never see them unless they are pointed out to you. On my current MOC (not for this contest) I have about 5 places to hide parts (including a small tire) already where you wouldn't see it on any photo I would take of the model and the model isn't even at the 30% done mark. So people who want to bent the rules and get away with it, can. Of course hiding a bucket or a 62.4 wheel would be hard to achieve, but a couple of small parts or "design choices" (for parts that work better on your B-Model) it's really easy. edit: @Above: Jim's response is perfectly normal, the contest is: make a set like TLG, A and B model. TLG doesn't hide buckets or wheels on an A-model to use for the B-model, so you don't either. This shouldn't even be a question. Before you consider this reply harsh as well, read the contest rules and think: What would TLG do?

Lego UCS-MOC: Batmanâ„¢ Arkham Knight ''Batmobile''
Appie replied to Hass Kabal's topic in LEGO Licensed
You are correct, paid instructions aren't allowed, for free it is allowed (not saying you should give them for free, it's just the rules of Ideas). While this model might not make it through Lego Ideas, it's another to shoot yourself in the foot this early by ignoring one of the rules. I think it's also a rule that you can't modify parts. While it's mostly cosmetic on this model like the hook on the front of the model, it's also something Lego would swiftly change back to the more kid friendly rubber extension that was there in the first place. edit: Should add on your ebay sale that you did modify some parts for this build imo, in case of upset purists. -
That's easy to show by giving it less points in the voting round As for the mirrors not fitting, make them foldable, Jim already said it is allowed. It's Lego, can just adjust stuff. I still agree with Zblj that these topics turn into nitpicking way too much. Jim gives a very generous limit of 10k cubic, that's the size of a 80 bucks Lego set, give or take. If you can't make something beautiful within those dimensions and have to search for the limits then I don't know what to tell you.

7L yellow axles with 5L LBG axles in one set and 5L yellow axles in another set. I am not sure what Lego's goal is here? 1. Make it easier for people to tell the difference between axles in a given set 2. Switch all odd number axles to yellow, but first have to clear out all the old 5L (and 9L/3L) LBG's on stock 3. Lego wants a rainbow of axle colours 4. All of the above

I remember somebody on this forum being able to order the 42043 pneumatic package shortly after 42043 release. The pneumatic cylinders couldn't be ordered individually due to them being made externally. So they were/are not made by Lego themselves.

Lego UCS-MOC: Batmanâ„¢ Arkham Knight ''Batmobile''
Appie replied to Hass Kabal's topic in LEGO Licensed
It looks great, really like the amount of details. A minor point of critisism though, some parts are a little out of scale compared to the real model. Like the wheel arches are a bit too chunky, this might be because it isn't sturdy enough otherwise to support the weight of this 4 kg behemoth? Not saying I would do it better, because I am not (on my model the wheelarch is a tad chunky too). The overall look is awesome though and instantly recognisable. Great work. -

Lego UCS-MOC: Batmanâ„¢ Arkham Knight ''Batmobile''

Great job. I am in awe of the sheer size this is going to be. It must be pretty heavy already. I am currently working on my own version of this, but despite it being in my head since the first trailer of this batmobile early this year I haven't put much work into it. I am glad to see other people wanting to build this model too, been following this topic the past few weeks too (thanks for the great cgi renders). My model uses the slightly bigger bike wheels, it's also more Technic oriented. I'd steal your great UCS style for my model in heartbeat , but I'd fear the weight since I want to use PF. -
Generic Contest Discussion

Looks like a good competition to me. I tried to build a B model with the 200 parts max contest, I got pretty far but in the end the parts I had to use to keep the A model at 200 parts were killing me to add functions on the B-Model (barely managed 2) Should be less of a problem with just a size limit Pullback should be fun too. -
Well I always wondered what the "IP" in IP car was supposed to mean anyway. Google didn't help, but now that you mention Batman... IP has been used to say "intellectual property", which would fit with covering up that it would be a Batmobile: intellectual property car. Do I like it? Not really. Like the others I think the Batmobile for the new movie is ugly and rather dumb as a first choice for a Technic UCS set. I was kinda thinking this 300 euro set would turn out to be the 40th Technic anniversary set for 2017 (leaked waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too early) and Lego basically going full circle to their first "Supercar" in 1977: the 853. Oh well, maybe it still happens

Alasdair is doing a great job, perhaps he can make a script that whenever Madoca makes a new topic, it is automatically added to the HoF No, but seriously, I can't think of a single Madoca model that shouldn't be in there. -
[TC8] Dock Container Crane
Appie replied to Doc_Brown's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Great idea for the contest. One thing looks a little off to me compared to the image of the yellow crane you posted: the width between the 2 legs (to be clear: between the wheel pillars). This space looks bigger on the yellow crane or compared to your build the upper structure that moves the container is more to the left. This looks off balance to me compared to what the real life crane would carry in weight from the container. Feels like the lego model would tumble if it tried the same weight to scale as the real life model (or need alot of counter weight). Hope this makes sense, having a hard time explaining this XD- 34 replies

Personally I could care less for a prize, but it's always fun to win a contest and I think that is what krisandkris12 meant. Cranes might be a difficult build, but it's not like there isn't a plethora of MOC's and even official sets to steal techniques from for this subject. I think the biggest reason for the low number of entries is that the concensus (especially for this type of model) is bigger=better. And while small models might do well and even win in previous contests, that probably won't change the view of a novice who wants to try his luck at this contest. The size of entries of others can be quite overwhelming and make the novice wonder why he should even try or if he has enough parts to compete. And not just novice builders will have a problem with this bigger=better concensus, also pro-builders, since designing and building a 2000+ parts MOC takes time, even for experts. So some might have already dropped out because they couldn't commit the time.

Generic Contest Discussion
Appie replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I personally think this contest could have used a few more rules like part limits (especially since this is the 3rd contest in a row with no limit for a subject that even Lego themselves loves to throw parts at), PF, LA's and/or pneumatics not allowed or no stuff allowed like a 42009. I add the 42009 because I have seen so many awesome mobile cranes that were build the past few years that allowing people to make something like it in this contest just feels like a: "been there, done that" or "that mobile crane did it better". Zblj already ran with the one type of mobile crane that I haven't seen much of: an offroad version. The rest will most likely be Liebherr #2193/ultimate 42009 #3578. With a part limit, not allowing PF, LA's or pneumatics it would at least open up some creativity imo. Or with a "no 42009 clones" rule I was looking forward to more of a contest looking for a rival for the 42042. Just my 2 cents. Either way, good luck to the contestants. -

Very cool little model I like the bodywork, but I love that small function packed chassis even more, especially since you can put a different style body on it pretty easily. -

Appie replied to Paul Boratko's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Exactly what I was thinking! This really nailed the M.A.S.K. toys in Lego (even the no-steering ), yet... Like Jeroen said, the A category is perfectly suited for stuff like this and having this not enter would be a real pity, since it has winning potential for sure! I'd even ask Jim to force it in , can't have a perfect example of Lego MASK model not be in the contest. -

Appie replied to piterx's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Ahaha! I was hoping for a tribute to another 80's show in this contest: The A-Team Even thought of making it myself, but wouldn't have looked as good as your bodywork (halfway) already is -
The 8297 was from 2008. In 2007 we had the 8275 bulldozer. The first of many (IR) PF models. Was a pretty cool milestone imo. Also it had quite a bit of studded building in the model too, which could be considered a nice tribute to "the old Technic days". As for the 40th anniversary, I expect something with "Limited Edition", "special colours" and all those buzz words that weren't as hot in 1987, 1997 or 2007 as they are today. Whatever they do, I am sure I will buy a copy

42043 Mercedes-Benz Arocs 3245
Appie replied to AndroTech's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
The tubes won't touch the (one) gear when you keep them the default length, so no worries there. I did have to readjust some tubes so the turntable could turn properly to the left (and not have the clutch gear trigger on every attempt to turn it). I am not sure if cutting tubes for this is the way to go, since it seems to me that some tubes like a bit more length for moving left or right or for both directions. If you want to cut tubes just to avoid a gear I wouldn't bother. That gear should have plenty of room. The blue tube that links the 4 valves runs in front of that gear. This blue tube should go from left to right through the chassis (right under the middle of the turntable). So basically you have: "crane tubes">"blue valve tube">"gear" under the turntable. The crane tubes have plenty of space to not push the blue tube towards the gear. -
^This Lego is made with plenty of fail safes to prevent "incorrect use". Including this set. Not sure why you even want to a do a sequence with a max of 20 seconds intervals unless, like allanp said, you want to challenge yourself. Fail challenge? No worries, Lego fail safe <insert "clutch gear/LA clutch/whatever" here> go. As for memorising a sequence? Come on! Remember old sets? That stuff didn't even come with stickers to explain what each crank or switch did and in what direction! Considering I don't put stickers on any of my current sets (except the Tumbler which has no funtions besides looking awesome), I still have to memorise which switch does what. Takes a couple of minutes? ^and this. Lego did an awesome job with the sheer amount of functions in this set and I wish to see more sets packed with functions in the future.

Great model, love the lines in that photo from above too. Pity you decided to not adjust it further for the TC7 contest though or cooking up something else already?
