  2. Imagine: you're busy building on a new project, and you're almost finished.... then someone with the same idea goes all over the internet with his building. That's not funny! (sh*t happens ) It didn't hold me back of completing my version of: The Chanel Boutique in Amsterdam! It's located in the P.C. Hooftstraat: the well known street of only expensive shops. My version is very accurate: the size of the windows, the amount of windows and the height are all precise. The most extraordinary thing about this building is that it is made completely out of glass: the bricks, the doors, window sills, window frames and even the doorhandles... erverything is crystal clear glass! That explains the official name of this building: The Crystal Houses designed by Dutch architect office MVRDV. The glass bricks gradually go over in the famous Dutch bricks you see everywhere used in Amsterdam's canal houses. The glass bricks are an invention of the Technical University of Delft. I started building this last december... and no: I didn't count the trans-clear plates! Check: Flickr > BrickShelf > Creating the Crystal Houses (in Dutch)

    Modular Cheese Shop and Museum

Hi everyone, this is the second part of my Amsterdam project: a modular canal house containing a cheese shop with bistro and a small cheese museum that explains how cheese is made. (First part: book shop) The shop area and bistro. The mezzanine is easily removable. The cheese museum on the 2nd floor. A small appartement on the upper two floors for the shop owner. More pictures can be found here. I hope you like it. C&C welcome.

    [MOC] Amsterdam Canal Houses

Hi everyone, it took me a while, but here it is: the third and final part of my Amsterdam project. There are now two more canal houses and two canal boats next to the already existing Book Store and Cheese Shop. The narrow dark red and white building contains a music store on four floors that sells records and a great selection of modern and classic musical instruments. The corner building provides space for three different businesses: a flower shop on the ground floor, a therapist on the first floor and a tailor shop on the two remaining floors. The two houseboats are also inhabited and fully furnished. [ For more photos and detailed views of the interior please take a look at the flickr album. I hope you like it.

    [MOC] Modular Book Shop

I'd like to present my latest modular building. It's based on a canal house I saw in Amsterdam last year. There's a book shop located on the bottom two floors that also sells comic books and some rare comic figures. The upper two floors contain an apartement for the bookseller. The book shop: The apartement: Some furniture: I hope you like it.

    [MOC] Amsterdam Red Light District

A friend and fellow Youtuber set the challenge to create a city scene on a 8x16 plate. Because his idea of a Lego City is very different to the image Lego put forward, I decided to build this MOC. The mini-dolls are official Lego pieces which have been adapted by myself. This Lego MOC is not intended to offend or annoy anyone. I hope you like it. Mike .
  7. I fell in love with canal houses since the first day of my Amsterdam trip this may, and started designing it next morning after return. I did my best to keep all the distinctive features of a canal house. First off all, you can notice that the canal houses are narrow and deep. They were designed so to minimize taxes, which, at that time, depended on the width of facade. Amsterdam is situated on a swamp land, therefore facades were built of light bricks with large windows to reduce the weight. Another interesting feature with windows is that they become shorter from ground floor to the top. This makes an illusion that building is higher than it actually is. Also note some kind of a plaque just above the door. Three hundred years ago, only small percent of people could read, and plaques helped to identify name or profession of the owner. Because canal houses were built narrow, staircases were also narrow, making it a big problem to take furniture and goods up. To solve the problem hooks were placed on the top of the house, allowing to lift what you need and pass it through the window. Red bike. Thanks to many factors, like flat terrain, narrow streets and desire to decrease car-accident deaths Amsterdam became one of the most bicycle-friendly cities in the world. Nowadays there are more than 400 km of bike paths and 1 200 000 bicycles (even more than citizens). About 100 000 of them are stolen each year, and therefore our bike is securely locked. Pls support this canal house on Lego Ideas: https://ideas.lego.com/projects/83275 (You could also find there story behind the building and more pics, in higher quality)
  8. I'm sorry, I don't know where else to put this, so if it's wrong forgive me! I'm guessing this is mostly interesting for those from The Netherlands btw By coincidence I found this guys website, and turns out he's selling his (dozens!) new in box sets for reasonable prices! Including some old Star Wars sets (from 2002), ninjago polybags, mini figures, and loads more! Even sweaters and lights! Some boxes are damaged he says, and those are reduced in price. There is nothing of interest to me, but there might be some treasures in there for you guys! Go have a look! http://www.natuurfotograafmarcel.nl (the links to his Lego are at the bottom of the menu on the left) You can send the guy an email and have it delivered by mail or you can pick it up in Amsterdam Some of what he's selling: Let us know if you find something!
