    SoNE Freebuild "Pulling Rank"

We arrived on Endor in the afternoon and set-up our gear in a half-finished hallway in the temporary base. Corporal "Romeo" Pax and Staff Sergeant Brintt were cleaning their weapons and I was checking my ropes and climbing gear. The rest of the team was off gathering supplies and handling last minute details. That's when trouble arrived. They say not to judge a holo-book by it's front projection, but this guy had FOC written all over him (that's "Fresh Off Carida" for you new recruits). Not only was he wearing his full battle armor inside the base; he'd apparently also assigned himself a stormtrooper security detail. Still, we tried to give him a chance... "Good afternoon, sir." Romeo called. The Lieutenant ignored him and stalked toward Sgt Brintt, who was still seated and cleaning his weapon. "There's an officer on deck - get on your feet, soldier!" Sgt Brintt stood ... slowly. "Now drop and give me 20!" Sgt Brintt looked past the LT and spoke in a calm voice. "Sir, we're working under the orders of Captain Parth, who is acting upon the authority of General Brickdoctor. The Captain has ordered us to be ready to go by 1100 hours, and this soldier believes that an unscheduled PT session would prevent us from meeting that deadline. Sir." The Lieutenant's threats and insults were shouted at such a volume that he failed to hear the sound of metal thumping on metal,so when Sgt Brintt suddenly straightened up and saluted, the LT wasn't sure what was going on. He figured it out pretty quickly. Captain Parth spoke in a low growl. "Staff Sergeant Brintt." "Yes sir?" "I want you and the men to take a 10 minute break ... elsewhere," the Captain said. "Yes sir." We walked around a bend in the hall, far enough that we were out of sight, but still in hearing range. I spend time with some rough crowds, but I hadn't heard curse words used that frequently, or that creatively, since boot camp. 10 minutes later, a pale and shaken Lieutenant walked quickly past us and we went back to work. "He wont be giving you any more trouble," Captain Parth said as he left, but I had a feeling we hadn't seen the end of this particular officer. --- Part 2 of the story is here: Into the Wild Part 3 is here: War Stories
  2. While testing some modifications to the incredibly poor atmospheric controls of the Imperial Tie Fighter, Goatm An 4-61 crash lands in the towering trees of the forest moon. He is lucky to be alive but also dangerously lost. Canopies above and below him keep Goatm from seeing either the ground or the sky. He also happened upon on of the filthy creatures infesting the trees around the crash site and quickly dispatched it before it could cause any problems. It may be a long journey back to the Imperial build site. I would like this build judged, please. C & C welcomed.

[SoNE Ep V] Into the Wild

Edit: This is part 2 - the freebuild here helps to set-up the story. Damn, damn damn. It was a bad situation, very bad, and then it got worse. The troopers crashing through the brush flushed a bird from the trees. One of the troopers raised his blaster, tracking the bird. If he fired.... ...then the Sanyassan Marauder we'd been about to capture would probably open fire. If the Sanyassan aimed its weapon towards the troopers... ...then I was going to have to take it out. And, if I fired my weapon this close to the line of stormtroopers, they'd start blasting everything in sight, including my team, and probably each other. Damn. And the day had been going so well.. We'd been dropped off the night before, several klicks away, and by sunrise we were in position. We'd set up along the main path that ran between the edge of the forest and the grassy plains. "Bull's eye," "Crash" and I were in one group; "Romeo," "Tiger," and the Sergeant were set up a few hundred meters away. Our objective was to capture a Sanyassan Marauder. We knew they were hostile - they'd captured and killed one of Pfilbee Jhorn's survey crew. We also knew their base of operations was a primitive rock fortress out on the plains. But, we didn't know how many Marauders there were, or what weapons capabilities they possessed. The problem with stone castles is the rocks block scanning rays, so our probes can't tell us what's inside. Stone also tends to hold up surprisingly well against laser bombardment, so it wasn't as simple as just ordering a TIE Bomber fire mission. No, to get intell we'd have to take one alive. Endor is a beautiful planet; it reminds me of home. As the sun came up, and the song of strange birds filled the air, I felt more peaceful than I had in a long time. Although we'd seen Maraduers go by in pairs, trios and groups, we didn't spot a solo one until mid-day. Romeo confirmed that there was nothing coming down the path near their position. I could see quite a ways from my vantage point and it was also clear. My finger tightened on the trigger, ready to fire a stun beam... ...when suddenly the creature bolted off the path and hid behind a tree. We all prepared to fire in case it had spotted us and was about to attack. That's when Romeo radioed that we had stormtroopers on the path. Damn. There's no way this is a coincidence. We'd had a run in with an officer the day before; sending troopers to try and blow our cover must have been his way to get even. So, now here we were: The trooper about to fire on the bird... ...the Sanyassan about to fire on the troopers... ...and us preparing to fire on the sanyassan. That's when the trooper behind the would-be hunter kicked him in the aft and told him to keep moving. I breathed a sigh of relief. Five minutes later, the Sanyassan walked slowly out from behind the tree, and I shot it in the head. Stun setting, of course. While Sgt Brintt radioed the stormtrooper patrol to let them know there were friendlies on the ground, Crash shouted up to me. "Hey Birdman, climb out of your nest and give us a hand!" Finally, I had a unit nickname. I climbed down with a grin. --- The third and final part of the story is here: War Stories
  4. Sin: I hate Endor. Sir, can I get the next shuttle off this stinker of a planet? Nom Carver: Not until we've cleared an area for the shield generator. Scout, you over there, keep strimming you slacker! Nom Carver: And you, with the SaberSaw, clear that tree out of my way! Stormtrooper: Yes sir! Nom Carver: Good work. Sin: What's that sir, in the treetops? Nom Carver: It's an Ewok glider! GET DOWN! Nom Carver: It got a scout with a pebble it threw! That's gotta hurt! Nom Carver: Lord Tyrus, do you copy? Are you in your Low Altitude Deforestation Vehicle? Sergeant Tyrus: It's Sergeant Tyrus actually, the Empire promoted me for my efforts at Sullust, anyway, of course I'm in my LADV! Nom Carver: We need you down here, we got a glider and one of us is already hit! Sergeant Tyrus: Certainly sir, I'm on my way! Sergeant Tyrus: He's in my sights! Sergeant Tyrus: Got 'im! A little while later... Nom Carver: Thank you Sergeant Tyrus, you saved mine and my squad's lives I will ensure that High Command knows about your efforts. Sergeant Tyrus: Thank you sir. Nom Carver: We must continue with the mission. I will see you later... Sin: If we ever get off this mudball...

  6. Aboard the ISD Avenger, Hangar 29 is devoted to the testing and modification of new starfighters dreamed up by the front-line pilots and ground crew of the Imperial forces. Because of the nature of the Empire's current mission, much of the fabrication wing of Hangar 29 is being devoted to the creation of AT-ST variants. Production of the AT-ST "Shameless" has been completed. This slender, single driver walker was designed to deal with the inconvenient nesting habits of the local fauna and their infestation around work areas. Ground forces had been reporting issues with creatures and loose debris from their nests falling from the trees onto the crew and equipment. The Shameless has a two-step approach to dealing with this inconvenience. First, the walker has been fitted with chainsaw appendages to cut down the nests of the creatures. Next, dual flame throwers will burn down whatever clings to the branches above and burn up the fallen debris below. Brickdoctor has mounted a console system set for installation into one of the AT-ST variants and called the passing crew together for a pep talk and congratulations for the accomplishment. (I did the best I could including all the active Imperial builders with features similar enough to their avatars, if you were left out it was only because I lacked the minifigs necessary) The crew also decided that a special shuttle would be needed to transport the Shameless through the dense canopy to the work site below. Thus, Shuttle HD was commissioned. This light shuttle was designed exclusively for transporting the AT-ST Shameless. Another smaller, sleeker frame for piloting through the tall trees, this shuttle requires a pilot with full life support systems but allows for a driver and two man crew to pressurize the cabin using the Shameless itself. This strange feature, which allows the driver to enter the walker mid-flight but requires the legs to be strapped awkwardly above the shuttle, is what gives the Shuttle HD its nickname, the Hello Dolly, after the exercise the men suffered as recruits. Attaching the walker seals the cabin of the shuttle, allowing a crew to travel without life supports. Once deployed, the pilot may require his life support system to return to the staging-craft orbiting the planet. The crew is eagerly preparing two more AT-ST variants to assist the Shameless. The Brush Hog, named so for its short, think proportions, will be used to push ahead through thick under brush. Twin, upward-facing blasters will be used to clear the trees of unfriendly inhabitants. Another variant, the Lookout, will be fitted with a sniper platform and used as a support vehicle to pick off unseen combatants. A droid below the Lookout guides it to the nearest maintenance platforms for further fabrication. *Hangar 29 without minifigs and special features. *Hangar 29 separates into 3 distinct parts, (1) the assembly floor, (2) the shuttle's "working" elevator, and (3) staging platform and control room below. *Inside the control room *Hangar 29 features.

    Imperial HTT

Hello Everybody, Today I want to show my Imperial HTT (Hovering Troop Transport.) Left Front View: Back View: Brick Breakdown: Assault Variant: I hope you enjoy my HTT. C&C appreciated. If you want you may build this for your MOCs. Question: Can you understand the breakdowns?
  8. "After barely surviving the battle at Sollust, I was reassigned to a secret location, a forest moon on the outer rim, our mission; brining down the trees to make space for some kind of shield generators, I have made many things that I am not proud of but defiling this sanctuary is the one that I am most ashamed, you may say that the life of a rebel isnt too different from that of a tree but I say these trees would harm nobody and the empire should keep its business away from primitive and beautifull places like this in order to avoid disturbing its inhabitants or interfere in their development and evolution, I have never seen one of them, I guess they are afraid but I think they are lurking in the bushes, some times at night, I look through my NVGs and see that we are surounded by hundreds of eyes, are they seing us with fear or are they waiting to attack?" 11. Tie pilot Goatm An 461 is now on Tatooine to visit the shop of a famed engine mechanic/merchant. Stormtroopers heavily patrol this area because of the great interest in the new engine mods coming out of this shop. Maybe the Empire will just have to recruit this mechanic and secure his expertise. While on planet he decided to purchase a slave girl and a couple of cloaks to keep in the Tatooine fashion. I would like this freebuild to be judged during the SoNE IV episode, please.

  13. Trooper TX-2975 to Command, do you read? Do you read? I'm in a pretty tight situation, Sir- we managed to take the weapons storage bay with only one loss and we captured three Rebels. Unfortunately we were ambushed from behind by a larger force. We retreated into the nearby corridors. They used an astromech droid equipped with a laser beam to cut through the walls to get to us more quickly. Now it's only me left. Everyone else is dead or a prisoner. I'm trapped in a tiny weapons room with no escape route and they're closing in. Request for reinforcements, Sir. TX-2975 out.
  14. If we're going to re-take our base on Sullust, it's vital that we secure the command post. To do that, our troops will need to fight through to the heart of the base, potentially giving the rebels time to escape. We need another way in. There are hundreds of miles of tunnels and old lava tubes forming a labyrinth under the surface of the planet. The odds of randomly finding the right one are extremely low. There is a vast amount of machinery dedicated to keeping our Sullust base habitable: air filters, purifiers and exchangers connect with miles of ventilation shafts and pipes to keep the air breathable. That’s good news for us; machinery requires maintenance, which means access hatches and schematics. Because we’re breaking into our own base, we can pull up the complete schematics from the Imperial archives. It doesn't take long for us to find a way in. As I follow Crash (the origin of his nickname is a whole other story) into a rift, I'm trusting that he's able to decipher the complicated diagrams and schematics. We walk through the pitch-black lava tubes, illuminated an eerie red by our optics; Crash leads the way at several tunnel junctions, and after about 10 minutes we arrive at a pressure door. So far, so good. We pass through the pressure door, and shimmy our way down a pipe. I'm thankful for the upgraded Shadow Trooper armor - I don't think I'd want to do this in a regular Stormtrooper outfit. As we reach the bottom, we find ourselves in another cavern. The tight spaces filled with pipes and the loud, low rumble of nearby machinery remind me of my first tour, on the Vigilant. Crash says it's not totally clear from the schematics, but he's pretty sure nothing horrible will happen if we pop open this maintenance hatch without turning off the machinery first. Once again, he's right, although it takes both of us to pull the hatch free. I follow him into the airduct, and then immediately wish I hadn't. Straight ahead is a double-bladed, industrial fan. Crash says not to worry. The trick is to take off our helmets, drop them down with our weapons, and then inch along on our bellies until we reach the next duct. No worries... Crash makes it. My turn. I want to clarify that the look on my face isn't fear; the lower blade is actually sucking the skin on my face downward, while the upper blade pulls my hair up. It's only a few feet across the shaft, but it's a long few feet. Finally, we make it into position. It looks like the rebels are using escaped prisoners to help guard the halls. They must be stretched thin, trying to cover as much ground as possible before our reinforcements overwhelm them. Imperial troops have entered the base. We're carrying slug-throwers. They're much heavier than blasters, and they carry far less ammo, but they can be fitted with sound suppressors. When we open the door to the command center, we catch the rebels totally by surprise. They assumed they'd hear a blaster fight if anyone tried to take out the guards in the hall. We neutralize the armed prisoner, and put the rebels in hoods and binders. It doesn't look like they had much success slicing into our systems. I keep an eye on the door while Crash logs onto the main computer. Something about the room feels wrong, and as I'm standing there it hits me: whoever killed the tech at this duty station must have been standing right about where I am. And the two Stormtroopers were killed by blaster fire from inside the control room. As Crash uses the computer to lock down the doors and get the security cameras back online, I get a sick feeling in my stomach. I think the attack on Sullust was an inside job. -------- Once again, this turned into a larger and more sprawling build than I first intended. This time, though, it is more interconnected. All the pipes and caves that look like they attach in the pictures actually fit together. UPDATE: here are some pics of each individual level. Surface Upper lava caves Lower lava caves and ducting Halls and command center
  15. Tie pilot Goatm An 461 reports to Hoth to test fly a new planetary patrol fighter developed by a bored Colonel unlucky enough to be stationed there. The fighter has been loaded with a ridiculous amount of forward facing weapons. The primary purpose of the fighter is to target landing craft upon entering the atmosphere and only rarely take on targets above the stratosphere. Goatm's assessment: its a suicide fighter and he will have no interest in flying it. With the on board systems dedicated almost exclusively to those forward facing weapons, little attention was paid to the maneuverability of the fighter, thus, no defensive capabilities. If it were up to Goatm, this project would be left in the hands of the ground forces, our pilots are crazy enough as it is. I would like this freebuild to be judged during the SoNE IV episode, please.

  18. Nar Eurbrikka; 3 days after the bombing. The rebels didn't realize it, but they'd made a serious mistake. The sewage tunnels they'd used to get below our garrison were unguarded because they'd been unused and largely forgotten for so long. These forgotten tunnels saw few visitors, so a probe droid dispatched the day after the bombing spotted telltale signs of recent movement. Nothing obvious at first, but areas where slime had been inadvertently wiped from the walls as men moved through narrow passages and, most damning, ladder rungs where years of grime had been recently knocked off as boots climbed down from the surface. The probe droid beamed its coordinates to base, and an aerial surveillance droid confirmed the presence of a sewer access hatch, in a courtyard next to a building in one of the vast, sprawling slums surrounding the spaceport. ISB immediately started 24/7 monitoring of the building, using both air and ground assets. After waiting and watching for two days, they called us. Normally, SpecOps wouldn't be needed for a simple assault on a residential building, but the situation on Nar Eurbrikka was complex. There was a growing rebel presence in this part of the city, and the local commander refused to send in troops without heavy armor support. The army, having recently lost two scout walkers nearby, refused to commit forces before the area was "softened-up" by TIE bombers. Naval command was under orders not to unduly upset the Hutts, who would certainly consider widespread bombing of one of their colonies an act of war. High command did not view the Hutts as a serious threat, but they did control vast swaths of space, and fighting them would require forces that were desperately needed elsewhere in the struggle against the rebels. That's how I found myself riding through the streets of Nar Eurbrikka, in the back of a civilian hovertruck, 2 hours before dawn. Two hover trucks pulled to a stop in front of the target house, and we piled out. Gunners with heavy repeating blasters covered the street as the entry team stacked up at the door. On cue, a small explosive charge destroyed the door. At the same time, flash grenades were thrown through the windows, and we went in. [note - the following photos have been light-enhanced to show the scene more clearly] Flash grenades are a beautiful thing. Unlike stun grenades, which leave unconscious prisoners who have to be carried out of the building, flash grenades explode with blinding light and deafening sound. This overwhelms the nervous system of most creatures, causing them to instinctively move into the corners of rooms while covering their heads. It takes most beings 10-15 seconds to recover from the shock, and by then we've infiltrated the building. Of course, we also have traditional blasters for anyone who was outside the range of the flash grenades and tried to put up a fight. The final tally was one rebel stunned by blaster, and four captured without further resistance. Less than three minutes later, the prisoners were loaded onto the hover trucks, along with captured weapons and datapads, and we disappeared into the night. This was my first mission with the Special Operations division of the Stormtrooper corps. To the casual observer, there was nothing to differentiate the commandos from regular storm troopers. A trained eye might notice that the troopers did not carry standard blasters. Commandos are given much more leeway when it comes to weapons selection, and for close-quarters raids like this one many prefer blaster pistols, which are more accurate when fired one-handed. A trained observer might also notice the fluid way that commandos move, communicating with hand-signals (habit from the missions where helmets with comlinks are not worn) and quickly clearing all areas of the target building. We kept our helmets on and didn't speak as we headed back to the temporary garrison, on the outskirts of town, but I knew there'd be celebration once we dropped the prisoners off. I relaxed, somewhat. I was still the FNG, but at least I hadn't screwed my first mission up. --------------------------------- Overall view:
  19. Goatman461 entry for SoNE IV: Section D - Docking Bay (Empire) On the sulfuric surface of Sullust, attempts to dislodge the AT-ST guarding the Southern quadrant docking bay door have failed. An unlucky X-Wing melts into the mountainside while the pilot counts his last breaths inside. *as mounted Deep in the mountain, Imperial snipers lay down cover fire. A B-Wing pilot has already fallen to the sniper while attempting to maneuver the volcanic rock. Our hero, Goatm An 461, comes out of his apartment to help round up the remaining Rebel forces. The other tie pilots are eager to help with the clean-up, as well. "Oh no, you prisoners got your clothes all dirty trying to escape through the underground lakes of Sullust. Lets turn around and get you a hot bath." "That last step is a doosy." "Don't worry Stormies, we've got this. Go grab a mop and clean up the mess on level 14 below." Per usual, following the executions operations continue as normal at the imperial docking bay. This specific hanger is reserved for experimental starfighters being developed by the ever-faithful SoroSuub Corporation. Currently, tie pilot Goatm An 461 is the primary test pilot for the Cutlass-9 Mod 7 starfighter. Upon entering the hanger, the starfighter is taken by a crane allowing for movement between engineering departments and redeployment to the upper reaches of the cave during attacks to avoid Rebel sabotage attempts. Slave wookies are used to remove the large, over-charged engines to be repaired and modified as needed. Also looking on is a custom G2 "Goose" droid, complements of the SoroSuub Corporation. While repairs are being worked out, our hero has some other "business" to attend to. Back to work. Lets see what this baby can do. The starfighter helping to climb the Empire to victory. Thanks for putting the contest together. I've really enjoyed the build. Negative, constructive comments are always welcome.

  21. Everything was normal at 18:00 local time on the planet Sullust. We performed the usual checks and everything seemed normal. Or so we thought... Suddenly, sirens flashed and we received a holocall telling us Rebels had entered the base. The captain activated the ray shields to prevent the Rebels getting to the detention centre. When they came, we were ready! It was over in seconds. Those Rebels really should improve their body armour. Here are some pictures of the build: And the lava that didn't turn out as bad as I thought it would as I've never built lava before.
  22. Twas the night before Life Day, and all through the base Imps were hacking the files the Rebs tried to erase. And while thinking of hot Tatooine and sail barges I wired Reb equipment with thermal det. charges. All at once, from the hall, we heard weaponized light as our troops found a rebel who put up a fight! Outgunned and outnumbered, the reb didn't last long and as he surrendered ... ...we broke into song! Give a cheer to the troops, far from home this cold night fighting and dying for justice and right! Cheers to the pilots who saw them safe down through the treacherous winds, over hostile ground. Cheers to the snow scouts who found the ice cave where we first made our entrance, so dashing and brave. Cheers to ISB spooks, with their cool slicer droids (and their all-seeing eyes, which we try to avoid). Cheers to army and navy and Stormtrooper Corps, and to all who support us as we win this war. 3 cheers for the Empire, protecting us all, it's for her that we fight, we shall not let her fall! Cheers to her citizens, no matter where from ... and tonight (tonight only!) cheers too, rebel scum. Happy Life Day!!! ------------------------ Behind the scenes ------------------------ Once again, my build ended up much larger than I had planned! This was a difficult one to photograph, with a lot of white on white; I ended up taking a ridiculous number of pictures, experimenting with different lighting and settings. Here in Seattle, we have "full spectrum" or "happy" lamps to get us through the long damp winters. I built part of the cave wall with clear bricks, and let the blue light illuminate the interior. Here's a look at the overall build: This was a lot of fun, but I think I'll try a small vignette for Episode IV Thanks for reading!
  23. Note: this build is a response to Kaitan's freebuild, which you should read first. Warning: violent content / images ahead Officials confirmed today that a number of Imperial peacekeeping troops and civilians were killed on Friday, when a bomb exploded in the sewers under their garrison. Witnesses described a chaotic scene, as the screams of the dying mixed with the shouts of surviving troopers, torn between treating their fallen comrades and securing the scene from further attack. The bomb's detonation, just under the surface of the street, left nearby troops with horrific injuries. Several troops that survived the initial blast died from blood loss before they could be taken to bacta tanks. Officials said the confirmed death toll of 16 includes 5 civilian casualties: 2 passersby, and 3 detainees who were being questioned inside the garrison. The regional governor vowed to hunt down and apprehend the extremists responsible for this dastardly deed. Already, several battalions of fresh troops have arrived and are locking down parts of the city. The longer term ramifications of this attack remain to be seen. ------------- Out of character disclaimer: Sometimes on the internet we don't come across as intended, so I want to clarify that this build isn't meant to be a personal attack on Kaitan in any way. His build was actually pretty rad, but ... I can't let the rebels get away with too much

I mumbled, as we entered what must have been the hundredth wing. ________________________________________________________________________________ I searched through the remaining files, most had been deleted, but I was able to find a hologram with a publication date from a few days ago... ______________________________________________________________ We looked on as the Rebels ( ) practically revealed the location of their new base to the empire ( ! I saved the file to my USB drive and we continued with the search. (Is someone watching us? ) ________________________________________________________________________________ Here's a look at this inferior Rebel computer, before... ______________________________________________________________ Lucas smashes the computer! ________________________________________________________________________________ "Whose are these?" I asked. "Maybe that Rebel Scum who calls herself a princess?" Suggested Lucas. ________________________________________________________________________________ Then, all of a sudden, a Rebel rushed into the room! "What do you want!?" We shouted. "I- I-" He stammered, "I was sent back to get the P- Princess's clothing." Me and Lucas exchanged glances of amusement. ________________________________________________________________________________ "You know what," I told the Rebel, "It's the holidays, we'll let you go this time." "Thank you, the Empire is in my debt." He shook hands with me and Lucas, grabbed the "Princess's" clothing, and rushed from the room. 25. I enter the back entrance for a newly discovered branch of the abandoned Echo Base, in search of Rebel Alliance military intelligence and to destroy any remaining equipment... After blasting open the doors, I enter the darkness... Rebel blood drips... Hi everyone! This is not your classic hoth base, and its not really designed as a story... so I'll just present the photos with minimal commentary. Thanks for viewing! I was planning on putting some more things on the outside part, but I decided to just keep it simple with the landscape because I was running out of time... oops! The entrance to the base. On guard is a snowtrooper. Here is a clearer shot of the front, without the figure in front of the entrance. Without the roof. From the side ( no roof ) Aerial view of the layout of this small base. In the top left is one trooper finding some secret information to steal and on the bottom middle one trooper is finding some equipment to destroy! The rest of the base is filled with rubble and leaked snow. "Looks like we've got some material to download here, sir." It appears that the rebels didn't do so well... this must be the result of a wampa attack (tired of the mistreatment of taun-tauns, you see). Here's a view of the base from the other side. And to finish this up, a parting shot with the wampa snacks Thanks for viewing! Constructive criticism and pure praise appreciated
