Oh dear, I can't believe how long it took me to figure out that was you! That's such a great sig-fig (so cute!), and I must confess to having no idea how you got the hands to hold in there! Anyways, welcome to the guilds, great to finally have you here!

Deadline extended to April 7Strange events have been taking place in the New Haven sea - ships gone missing, unusual weather patterns, kraaken sightings, and billowing volcanoes - and now it's the bravest of the brave who are venturing out to find out what's up!
Category A - build an MOC to show what is going on in the New Haven seas - no explanation of what caused the events is necessary (though of course you can specify or speculate), just show us what is actually happening! Either sea or land-based builds are allowed, but they must take place within the New Haven Sea zones. 32x32 maximum size.
Category B - This is a story category - get us interested in your characters, the strange occurences in the New Haven sea, and excited to find out what happens next! For this category you must introduce us to your figs (either you main character, secondary characters, or completely new ones!) - you can do this however you like, from pictures of your minifigs on a plate to a dedicated MOC or hero shots! - and 2+ builds telling your story! No minimum or maximum except your ambition (and time).
Note: you may include your Category A build as part of your story (Cat. B) entry if you like, but it will not be counted with your other (2+) builds towards the final judging score.
Deadline:
March 31stApril 7Post your entries in this topic!
Prizes:
First place winners in both categories will get their choice from four custom Brethren of the Brick Seas faction minifigures commissioned from Rocky Mountain Minifigs. Second place winners in each category will get to choose from the remaining prize figures not selected by the first place winners. Prizes generously sponsored by @Jeff of Clubs.
Prize minifigures:
SpoilerSpoilerAs promised, we'll be keeping you busy with a number of transition challenges while we're waiting for all the details and automation work for Era III to be completed, so clear your building spots and get hyped! A few general rules:
- Entries must be linked in this thread, and should have [TC] prefixed to the title of your post (Transition Challenge).
- All entries must be new builds, blah blah blah, you know the drill.
- Prizes: First place winners in both categories will get their choice from four custom Brethren of the Brick Seas minifigures commissioned from Rocky Mountain Minifigs. Second place winners in each category will get to choose from the remaining prize figures not selected by the first place winners. See above spoiler for mockup of figures. Digital entries are allowed and will be judged together with the physical entries

17 hours ago, Jeff of Clubs said:One of my big concerns for BoBS is the slow death of apathy between Eras. I never got a chance to do anything beyond sign up for AG and am more than a little frustrated that SW isn't INSIDE the scifi section where it belongs. I have a strident rant in the old AG thread about that, so I'll spare you it here.
I would do some build myself but I am away from my collection for a month or so.
@Khorne has been posting small vignette stories and I believe a small build collaborative story or two would be a great way to keep the community active. Call it a mini challenge, that would reward participation in E3 somehow.
Some ideas would be;
Investigating the volcano
Chasing the Order of Hercules
Picking a fight with the WTC
A religeous schism
Stopping a Coup attempt
Declaring war on volcanos🤣
A polar expedition
An uprising in the desert provinces
From @Keymonus;
Some additional ideas:
-Hunting for a lost Lotii treasure fleet, sunk south of El Oleonda (stg. I introduced in an old storyline)
-Exploring the Lowers, the interior of El Oleonda, or some of the ignored large islands (usefull, but less original)
-A diplomatic mission to the Mokolei, to some of the Guelphian states, or to the West the (the Great Alliance States?)I wanna see as many folks from all the factions incentivised to keep building. Maybe a Minichallenge that pits multiple collaborations against each other. Prizes to the winners, decided by a poll in the Pirates forum itself, to promote BoBS to the broader community? I'd be willing to spring something for some prizes come June/July.
What do you all think? Anyone interested or have some more ideas to choose from?
Thanks, ♧
These are some great ideas (we've got a few of them on our challenge-board too! ) and by all means we'd love to see some collaborative builds between BoBS members between times for the Eras! But just a heads up that we'll have an official and hopefully very exciting mini-challenge coming your way by the end of the month too, so there's that to look forward too! And probably about three mini-challenges planned for between now and the official launch of Era III (which we're shooting for around June-July) But by all means, don't wait, collabs are always fun and the more activity the merrier!
Polls in the pirate forum for deciding the winners is a superb idea too, will definitely mention that in Court
EDIT: In fact, a collab started on any of these ideas/storylines would be a great build-in to the first of our challenges that's coming, so starting any of them would really tie in well!

Please, consider less is more for a better Era in the future.
I think you will like it That's just along the lines of what we've been looking at in court - can't wait til we get to start sharing some more of it with y'all!

Lovely vignette and introduction, @stria, those scroll ends are inspired! Excellent backstory, I can't wait to see more of your family of bookmongerers

Here comes the Laeknir Thaum Guðisson, great clairvoyant medium of the northern wilderness, his men at arms and bodyguard Callaghan Heimskurson, and a young forester Iauln Odauðlegurson, the laeknir took in as an orphan about fifteen years ago.
All three proud Mitagardians !
And so, the great Laeknir has made it here at last! Something about this band looks just a little familiar Welcome to the best guild of them all, Professor (at least, the best before Varlyrio was a thing ) Can't wait to see what adventures your merry band finds heading their way!

Wow! Crazy cool technique and absolutely lovely effect! The crenallations up top look wonderful as well, especially those lower corners with the 45° cutout curved slopes! Great job, man!

*vainly searches for a slap emoji* Get back to building man! (Medieval obviously, I mean - what other kind of building is there worth mentioning?)
-
So clean, really pretty. Flawless combination of technic and system, really well done!

Hey all!
Era II has been an exciting adventure for all of us, but all good things must come to an end - buuut... that's just because Era III is just around the corner!! We've been working on some exciting new ideas and plans behind the scenes, but we're also looking for a new team of leaders to take up the reins for the new Era! We want you, the players and members, flesh and blood of the Brick Seas, to take what you find fun and engaging about our RPG and steer the course into the next stage of adventure. The fate of BoBS is in your hands - will you step up to meet the challenge?
Please let us know here or in a PM to @Garmadon (yes that's me ) or other current leadership if you'd be interested in taking on the responsibilty and pleasure of running BoBS in the next Era. And even if you're not, we'd love to hear what attracted and keeps you in BoBS, and what you want to see more of in the upcoming years!
So here's to another 8 years of BoBS (woah, has it been so long already!?) and to an epic Era III!!
SpoilerAnd yes, most of current leadership will be staying on to help plan and work on everything that needs to be handled for a new Era, along with helping new leadership members to learn the ropes of the behind the scenes - but, we really do want to assure you that if you're stepping up to the wheel, we're here to help you forward with your vision, not to shove our own ideas down your windpipes! So never fear, and come on and join the fun!

Shiver me timbers!! Has the invincible Captain Nordau lost another gunboat?! Dumpossible.
Well, not too bad, all things considered, but I think the good pirate Captain may have to invest on filling his hold with pirate scallywags if he's going to raid Jameston again (which you know, he probably will )! Keep an eye out for gilded aftcastles and ex-Corrie sloops, redbacks, this isn't over!

My entry to the 25 years of Adventure contest! Johnny Thunder has gotten himself and his team pretty deep into the jungle on their riverboat for this one...
On a 48x48 baseplate:
Neither of us had much time so @Kai NRG and I collabed on this one! Thanks for viewing, C&C welcome as always!

Ooh, that is a great basement, and an amazing looking aparatus, I hope we get to see how it works I'm very curious now though, if this is the false Dr. Thinkslow Shootwell (a) does he think fast and shoot poorly, and (b) when did he take over the good doctor's basement so thoroughly
-
He was wearing boots! Of course. Love that organ too, I expect that's what the marquis is actually there for (I have the idea we've seen him playing before, haven't we?). The question is, where (and who!) is the fake Dr. Thinkslow-Shootfast is now...
-
I knew I liked that dog! Also, glad to see the Marquis making his appearance! As others have mentioned, that 9 3/4 sign is fantastic, and the goat and new gwuinee (as someone who had to arrange those in a pile of gold in close quarters I can affirm that when those land (quite often ) on their edges it is indeed one of 'those days' ) are hilarious! Can't wait to see where this story's going!
-
Ah! Love the Crab and Lobster club! (And that lobster in general - I need to get one ) Also the dog!
-
Ooh, the plot begins to unfold - that's a lovely room, by the way! (well both of them, but I meant the blue one ) The windows are great, and the quarter tiles work so nicely as well, so great that you angled the walls for a better scene too! It's almost unnoticeable, but it makes it so much more alive than ninety degree angles
-
Lovely snowscape, but those hex domes really steal the cake! Brilliantly done, and instantly recognizable as Ice Planet inspired!

My last freebuild was at the end of 2016 and my guild was Nocturnus but it's closed now if I understand correctly. I'm asking if I can participate and choose a new guild because it looks like fun to participate again.
Of course! You're more than welcome back (especially if you join Varlyrio Just kidding, we'd love to have you back wherever!)

Also, missing the heck out of you guys and gals!
Hey mate! Great to see you around again - definitely been missing you too!

Ah, I had forgotten how much fun it was plotting out
a raida very peaceful run for Captain Nordau Just wanted to mention as a reminder though that this BoBS card should be applied now to the Buccaneer's Dread (didn't see anywhere to mention it on the forms). Thankee!

Maan, I would love lots of monkeys but I'm gonna have to go with distant waters myself, would love to see and build MOCs outside of our usual pirate-y comfort zone! But any pirate contest is a pirate contest, can't go far wrong there!
