What is the best surface to build on?

I agree: the very definition of a #firstworldproblem. Hahaha! I tend to use the dining room table which is solid cherry but has a top protector that is simulated woodgrain with fake ridges. Works well most of the time, but I also use small container lids and larger soup bowls when needed. The chairs are perfect for holding excess parts bins required for a build, and this leaves our kitchen table free for......eating! As we have an open floor plan or great room for kitchen, dining, living and foyer all in one, it is less claustrophobic than sitting in a much smaller LEGO/bedroom. I find that LEGO and carpet don't mix.
  2. Okay, back to cake making! I just opened this Minifigure Cake Mold (853575 or 6153620) and found it has no directions for baking a cake. Aargh! My cake is ready to go into the oven, which is hot. Do any of you geniuses know it we need to butter/oil the mold first and then flour it before pouring the batter in to bake? I am guessing that we just pour without any prep because it is made of rubber or silicon. Any takers?

    [MOC] Hotel Dining Hall

LOVELY! And what a cast of characters coming to dinner! Design is first class with the arched windows, etc. The white color reminds me of the many old, grand marble hotels in Europe. Congrats on such a fine build!

How to get 300-400 minifigs, variety, dups OK

I agree with Sjaak. Sorry we are not neighbors because I just sold massive bags of heads, hair and legs for very low prices. Spares that I don't need. Hope you found someone nearby to supply the parts. There are a lot of used figs on BL for very low prices. And the parts can be even cheaper if you can find someone local who has too many spares and maybe will even trade. Good luck at your event!
  5. No video yet, but your report does rock. Wow! Three whole days of sun in BIllund....did all the locals end up in the hospital with lethal sunburns? Your comments were hilarious...and your sense of humor shines through. Those of us who have been there and done that have many fond, cold, wet and windy memories of the place. You reminded us of those fun times. For those who have not yet visited Billund, if you buy half as much food and save the rest of your paycheck, you may score a visit before you croak. So get to it because it is worth a visit even without the employee store part. When I hear friends mention how much they spent on a family trip to Disney, it makes Billund look like a cheap destination. No kidding!
  6. Tom, Thanks for the notice! Sawaya's work is so inspiring and fun to view in person. I saw it two years ago in NC. While you are around Seattle Center, do stop in the Chihuly exhibit as well; it has been tripadvisor's top rated destination in Seattle since it opened.
  7. What a great idea! I missed this the last time there. We all have a lot of random bricks lying round wondering what the heck to do with them. The search for spare minifigs and their parts and other random parts continues at our house. Oh where, oh where are those thousands of parts we no longer need? As to swaps,....Off the top of my head, I know we still need Quirrel's heads and turbans, Umbridge heads, and Trelawney skirts. Time to go through your closets and rediscover those lost parts!
  8. Drivers, Start Your Engines! It is almost time again for Brickworld 2016 Chicago! Chime in if you will be there and feel free to list LEGO you need and/or what you can trade for it. I'll be looking for plain (not printed) micro figs 85863 and can bring spare plain, monochromatic figs. PM which colors you need.
  9. Working on my figs for the fig trading session. Anyone need particular figs from Toy Story, Castle, Prince of Persia, Pirates of the Caribbean, Batman 1, Star Wars or Harry Potter? I can dig them out if you let me know before June 4th.

    Tannzwacker's flower shop and nursery

(Hahaha! love your comment about the piano shop on the second floor...makes my back and my pocket book hurt thinking about moving those pianos up and down the stairs. Ugh!) This build is just lovely! It looks so realistic and is full of gorgeous details and textures, especially the roofs, walls, and interiors. That must be some city your are building!
  11. Chris, That sounds great! Good luck at the minifig swap! Looks like the speaker line up is first class as usual with topics for everyone. And there is so much to see in the Chicago area before and after Brickworld. I am looking forward to touring the real Robie House and seeing a few other Frank Lloyd Wright buildings.

    Ch'ti Brick 2016

Fantastic model of the Arc! (Arch of Triumph in Paris) Thanks for the photos!
  13. Interesting article in the Wall Street Journal today. Kjeld KK names his only son Thomas KK as his successor retaining CEO from outside the family. It looks like a smart move. It looks hopeful that there will be plenty more LEGO products that attract females with Kjeld having only five granddaughters at this point. Hoorah! http://on.wsj.com/1UklGUP
  14. Thanks, Spock! (That is why I didn't use Kjeld's initials in the title. No intent here to associate anything with TLG.)
  15. Wow! Did not mean to upset anyone! I thought it was an upbeat article. All family owned firms need succession plans BEFORE anything bad happens; it looks like Kjeld is still relatively young and healthy, so this is good timing for the family.
  16. I was hoping for the Brick Oven for the cafe. Brick's Bar for the mezzanine. But the names on the ballot look fine as well.

REVIEW: 71012 LEGO Minifigures - Disney Series 1

Thanks again, Fangy! Your photos are outstanding as usual. It is fun looking at all the comparisons you show with other figs. Usually it is not a combination I would have thought of, but it works well. While I am more a fan of the older, unlicensed CMF series, this one looks pretty tempting. We appreciate the huge amount of time it must take to produce a review like this.
  18. @1974 Ole: You make is sound sooooo easy! It is too bad that there is not a process by which a vote by AFOL's for the ten parts they want in a different color is taken every year, and TLG blesses us with those parts! (I would be quite happy if they would just introduce some more figs with plain yellow legs and a few other hard to afford standard parts and colors, like pink arms and heads, .... But I guess we can always dream!)

    HMS Enterprize (1774)

Amazing! The last photo is perfect! Looking at all the sails and rigging makes me dizzy...just like when we had to climb to a scary height in rough seas to change the massive sails of the tall ship I crewed on for a month in an earlier life. Congrats on a lovely build!

    Why/How is Lego so popular?

LEGO has been around a very long time, and seems to be adjusting well to competition from computer games, etc. No one knows what lies ahead, so we can't say anything with certainty. But I would put my money on their survival because they now are into so many different markets. And there are so many countries left for LEGO to conquer.

    Brick Universe 2016

Yup, we will be there again for sure! I am displaying my Duplo Village and look forward to meeting area folks on Friday before the public arrives on the weekend. Stop by and say hello when you see the Duplos. Also I am in the garage sale there on Friday at five for the three day attendees. Greyson Beights and his family do a wonderful job with this show and deserve our support.

    [MOC] Jewelled Egg

Wow! In perfect time for Easter, too! Hard to pick a favorite as all are so masterful. The details are real killers! Congratulations on such fine builds; thanks for sharing with us mere bunnies.
  23. Thanks for the tip. I finally found a few at TRU Crossroads and the Lego Store at Crabtree. I think that the Apex Target only got a few and they flew out the door. I have the six I was looking for and am in a much better mood now. But what a screwed up introduction to the market....again. My favorite is still the ballerina. I finally found them at TRU when a case was opened as I arrived. Felt each one in the case, and found three that I could not identify...period. I was seeking a round tutu because that is the only kind of *&%##%&()_ tutu I have ever seen...but miracles of miracles, the tutu ain't round. It is an oblong thingy that is not smooth. Of course, I put all three of these back in the case and took my 2 shark men home. The next day I noticed an oblong tutu for sale all by its lonely self on eBay. So I rushed back over to our TRU, and found that someone had left one among the few remaining packets. Hallelujah! Could they make this any more difficult if they tried? If they are gonna produce a not round tutu, they ought to give us a very loud and long warning.

    MOC: Visit the Riviera

Don't forget lots of money and credit cards when your figs visit this place.....it will be a pricey visit. This build reminds me of visiting there several times over the past 40 years. What a cool build!

MOD Friends Supermarket and Cupcake Shop

Wow! The interior is lovely! So many interesting details and pieces. And the exterior is perfect as well. Nice build!
