Which island type do you like the most?

Recommended Posts

Playing around with building techniques for islands. I wanted to see what other people prefer.

Vintage - Bricks
Island%20design_2.jpg
Only if you wanted a really stylised look I guess.

Classic - Printed Baseplate
Island%20design.jpg

Simple Plates - Tan Plates
Island%20design_3.jpg
Blue baseplate and tan plates, reminisent of Pirate III from 2015.

Slopes - Pirates of Barracuda Bay
Island%20design_4.jpg
Medium azure plate with tan slopes. Can use the round slope parts 95188 & 58846 for convex turns. Hard to do concave bends in island.

Slopes Curved - Eldorado Fortress
Island%20design_5.jpg
Like above but with sloped curves. In addition to Brick Round Corner (76797), you can use Slope Curved with Stud Notch left and right (80177 & 80178).

Slopes Curved with Dark Azure - Friends Beach Amusement Park (41737)
Island%20design_6.jpg
As above but with dark azure plate for base and medium azure plates around the island.

Detailed Plates - Tan and Dark Tan Plates

Tiles - Tan and Dark Tan Plates

Tiles and Plates - Multiple layers of plates and tiles

Please comment if there is another build colour/combination you have seen.
And definetly let me know what's your favourite, I'm happy to add more to the list.

I like the 'Slopes Curved' and 'Detailed Plates / Tiles and Plates' the most, because they allow for a more enhanced shape of the coastline.

I mean, I'm a Classic guy... so always the classic printed baseplate.

Before I clicked this thread, I thought POBB, but I must admit I'm warming up to the new Eldorado beaches, especially with the new "Slope Curved with Stud Notch left and right (80177 & 80178)"

The only problem with them is that to make the beach long, it will take a lot of pieces, I wish they'd make a 4-stud (or more) wide pieces to match this style.

I like the yellow bricks. To me, the beaches should always be yellow in the pirate theme.

Slopes curved have a great variety, I Iike them.

Detailed plates are second, but can consume a lot of parts for it, which I don't like that much

I'm torn between the classic printed plate, and the latest design (Eldorado Fortress beach).

For me, it depends what the build is going to look like. If you are doing a studless build then I like the tiles or curved slopes or other studless combinations as these look similar to the build on top. Whereas if you are going for a studs up build on the island then I prefer the multiple layers of plates look.

@LetsBrickCool topic and great question!

I go for vintage as I love this classic studded and brick built style.

I like the Slopes Curved best followed by Slopes (PoBB) , but I have a soft spot for the Vintage/Classic looks as well.

Classic - Printed Baseplate !!!

There's just something magical in that design - without using any bricks or effort you already get an important peace of the play and the whole pirate universe, you automatically feel like you're on a beach, in a warm tropical setting ready for an adventure on an intriguing island... and there's no need to build anything to be honest, as during childhood years we often used it just like it was.

Compare it with every other type - in all of them you still need to construct the whole damn thing out of sand and form it into an insular shape and to be honest, none of them look as attractive as the printed baseplate ;)

Nah, it's too late :pir_laugh2: And not a poll :pir-grin:

But if anyone has ideas for future pirate polls, let us know!

Personally I like slopes (POBB) and curved slopes (Eldorado). I can’t really explain why beyond that I like how they look out of all the options provided.

Ok, you guys finaly convinced me @The Reader @zinnn :pir_laugh2:

I'll set up this topic as a poll next tuesday. @LetsBrick would you allow me to use the pictures you posted in the opening thread?

If unlimited parts

For an island of just sand, I'd probably choose Slopes Curved, and then the Hybrid version if it's like a larger chain of small islands.

In combination with rocks and vegetation, either Slopes for a more rocky island, or Detailed Plates/Printed for a more jungly beach.

As for actual builds from my own parts, then Barracuda Bay slope style, with sloped rocks.

Of course, please do.

I'm surprised by the decent spread of preferences so would be great to see a poll.
