FS ETR 252 ARLECCHINO

Recommended Posts

Hi Lego train Comunity,

here one of my most favorite luxury vintage train I think ever built, the FS ETR 252 "ARLECCHINO", which was presented in 1960 at the Olimpic Games of Rome. Of the 4 train built, it survives only one, currently being completely restored. The train derives directly from the more famous ETR 300 "SETTEBELLO" of the 50's (the SETTEBELLO was an unique train in the world due to a series of innovative technical and stylistic solutions, elements of Italian design that in the fifties were at the center of world attention).

My project lasted about 2 year untill I realized it in the last months.

Thanks to HELOS for his great patience and his constant encouragement to me to go on with the construction!!

For the exhibition "The Fifties" held in Milan in 2005, the driving car of the ETR 252 was restored and exposed with the number "301" and the logo "Settebello" in place of the original "252 Arlecchino"! Don't know why....

Here my first running test (bad video quality!). Unfortunately, at the moment the train doesn't run on std curves...

Hope you enjoy the Arlecchino...

A fantastic good implementation. The original is clearly again to discern, I like it very much.

Eine fantastische gute Umsetzung. Das Original ist deutlich wieder zu erkennen. Gefällt mir sehr gut.

You Europeans have much more choice when building passenger trains than we do in the US. Nicely done, those curved transitions between colors must have been difficult.

There's some wonderful retro goodness on this board at the moment, but this one is truly beautiful. Congratulations on your build.

That is a thing of beauty, both the prototype and your incredible capture of all the curves is unbelievable. Excellent work!

You've captured the lines superbly. The colors on it are spot on and all the curves look great.

At first I was like, look the weiner-mo... train! All kidding aside, it's amazing how many details and curves you captured in 6 wide!

You all have already made comments about this excellent Lego reproduction. As this train has a particular charm I just want to write a few curiosity about it and its some unique features considering that the Settebello project was born in the late forties and appeared in 1952. It started running in the midst of steam locomotives onto railway lines that unfortunately were not proper for a such modern machine so limiting its performances.

The shape come obviously from aviation rules, the excellent boogies for high speed and comfort were designed witout the use of computers, the panoramic lounges for passenger at each extremity side but above all, the whole train had a climate control and unbelieveble. *oh2* ...... there was a public phone booth for passengers !!! At that time half of the population did not even have the phone in the house.

The Arlecchino, smaller vrsion with 4 carriages instead of 7, takes its name from the character of traditional comedy Harlequin with a multi-colors costume. - each train carriage had tapestries and coatings with different colour from the others. Very trasgressive at that time :pir-grin: .

Well done Bmacro.
