I think Nolan is much more suited to bond than star wars. His style is ostensibly very much on serious, accurate, mindbending films, and I think at the end of the day you'd want the new era to kick off a little closer to the core of star wars. It needs to be more accessible to families, and to have some more humor. (That said, if he for some reason did want to work with disney, there is a certain superhero who often has grounded yet extremely mindbending stories where you can't tell what is and isn't reality...)

Villeneuve I could see. He could be a good fit for KOTOR era stuff if they decide to finally do it.

My problem with Christopher Nolan is that he would make a Christopher Nolan film that just happens to be set in the Star Wars galaxy. We see with The Odyssey that he doesn't really care about accuracy to the source material and would rather make his own interpretation of it. I think this would be bad for Star Wars and is how we got something like TLJ.

Villeneuve also no because he's on record saying he hates ROTJ, which is a big red flag to me.

It occurs to me that it if Mon Mothma is included in the Y-wing, it might be based on Return of the Jedi. That would be a nice opportunity to get some obscure battle of Endor pilots like Nora Wexley in Gold Squadron and Horton Salm, Gureni Telsij, and Ekelarc Yong in Gray Squadron (real Glup Shittos).

I like the RoTJ Y-wing helmets so I hope they bring those back.

I am rather aware of the likelihood, or lack thereof, hence my use of the word "would" denoting an irrealis. I merely illustrated the usefulness of such techniques, not just for kamas.

It is probably not too controversial to say a kama that is only printed at the front of the leg (not on the sides) is a poor representation of the same and less attractive than cloth pieces. But then, I doubt we see them again any time soon - last cloth kama was in 2017 with the Shore Trooper polyback - though I surely do not mind being wrong on this one.

Alright, I think I learned a couple of new words, thanks to your posting. And all good, I didn't intend to use the word "dreaming" in any negative way (not that I think you thought of it as such) or something. After all, we are all allowed to have our hopes and dreams. It's gotta be part of ourselves and being self aware. And what's a good forum worth without any of them?

I wouldn't mind much more dual moulded legs for the Lego Star Wars theme at all. As I was saying, the tendency of receiving those went up in the last few years. With Grand Admiral Thrawn and the Clone Cadet being just two recent examples. But as for side printed legs, those truly sound like endgame and end of the line level to me. Like I don't see them anytime soon.

The last cloth carma wearing Trooper that I can remember was the 212th Airborne Trooper featured in 2020's Grievous Starfighter.

Upon further research, you are right on this one. The visors are black and green all over the place. With the latter being shown on a certain render which got stuck in my head the most. And the green visor definitely does contrast much better with the wine red armour, but yes... It's hardly an inaccuracy, then. More like an inconvenience... or personal preference And comparable to something like Vader's red eyes.

Yes- like Vader's red lenses, it's something that depends on the lighting. And in this case, we don't even have a physical prop to see what it was meant to be originally. I wonder if lucasfilm would ever give out the original files for the galactic marine...

Oppenheimer was largely very accurate, so he is capable of it when he wishes, but regardless his style just doesn't mesh with the core of what star wars is.

He would have been 16 when ROTJ came out, I guarantee you he's talking about the ewoks, that's pretty common for people who were his age when that movie released. Aside from a lack of fuzzy gremlins in the movie, I think he'd be OK.

Oppenheimer was based on a true story though, so it's a bit different. My point is he likes to do his own interpretations of fictional stories, like his Batman trilogy isn't always comic accurate. I don't think someone of Nolan's caliber would want to be limited by the restraints of Star Wars and work within the Star Wars canon. That's how we got ridiculous lore breaking things like the Holdo maneuver.

I think this comes down to what you think Star Wars is/should be. People who hate ewoks want Star Wars to be dark and mature for adults, something it was never intended to be by George Lucas. If you want to argue it should move beyond Lucas's vision, that's fair. I think it would be better to adhere as close to Lucas's vision of Star Wars as possible.

Villeneuve has also made many mature and dark movies, I'm not sure why you're not okay with Nolan but fine with Villeneuve. As directors I'd actually say they're quite similar.

Despite Nolan white-washing my traitorous goat Sinon to be completely oblivious to the truth about the horse, I found the actual sacking of Troy to be very accurate to what’s described in Aeneid Book II.

But yeah, there were loads of inaccuracies to the actual Odyssey. Still a phenomenal film though.

Yeah I wasn't speaking to the quality of the film, more so my concerns with the potential liberties Nolan would take with a Star Wars movie.

So is would the lack of the Nobody scene be the Odyssey Equivalent to the Holdo maneuver? (Though TBH I didn't mind the hyperspace ramming).  I'm now waiting for the Epic the Musical Odyssey movie, so if we are comparing Odyssey to Star Wars then maybe Jorge should do a Star Wars musical, if anyone could pull it off it's him.

Back on the topic of Lego, I've been out of loop recently but I heard about the anniversary minifigs based on the old Ralph McQuarrie concept art designs. I'm very excited to see those, I'm a big fan of his work, I even did a coursework study on him for my Design GCSe back in the day.

Though apart fit that nothing about the wave sounds that exciting, I hope the Y-Wing is good cause I don't have one but it's something they've done before, a B-wing would be more exciting as though they've done it before too it's received a lot less love from TLG. I also Hope the CW movie gets a poster tile, I know to some it's not a proper movie and yeah I suppose it isn't really as was made to be the first episodes of the show, but it was the first brand new star wars film I saw on the big screen and is very nostalgic for me.

I guess it's not exactly the same, but directors often take big liberties with biopics so it is proof that he is able to stick to source material if he wants. But like I said, his style doesn't fit. Batman's actually a good example of that- The Dark Knight is one of the best superhero movies of all time, but only works because it's radically different from how batman is in the comics. You can do that with something like batman, since it's in a different universe from something like 1978 superman. But star wars is all the same universe so it doesn't work- you can't put your own spin on it to that level, and even if you worked within the confines of the universe, Nolan's style is mindbending films with dense plots and nonlinear storytelling- inception, tenant, interstellar. I just don't think it would fit a star wars movie.

I think you're jumping straight to the extreme of presuming disliking the ewoks means you want everything to be andor. For a lot of people around that guy's age, they were getting later into their teens when the ewoks came out, so they thought they were lame. This is a well-known thing, if I remember right there's a whole episode of a sitcom about how you could tell how old someone was when they watched ROTJ by whether or not they liked the ewoks. It doesn't mean everyone who though the ewoks were cringey wants star wars to be The Dark Knight. It doesn't matter anyway- in the anecdote you're referencing he goes on to explain that he wouldn't do a star wars movie, so it's not like he's going to come in and turn the franchise into Red Harvest or Death Troopers.

It's personal preference, I obviously don't decide which directors are and aren't OK with the theme. But looking at something like the Dune movies, I find the cinematography to be a good match for star wars, and it's obviously a fairly linear hero's journey story- one of the inspirations behind star wars, of course- so I think transcribing that talent to something like KOTOR would work well.

The Troy events are largely accurate (which is funny because Troy was found and it increasingly seems like some non-mythological version of that war did occur), but later stuff like cutting Nobody and Achilles's ghost rubs me the wrong way.

I can't believe I didn't notice this- it's up there with the first time without OT imperial troops last year (yeah yeah caveat that in 2000, where we barely got any sets, the troops were in some sort of figure pack and all that). It makes sense when you think about it- our only normal sets this year were mandalorian based (or a few clones), but does display the issue with the lack of variety.

We should get a B-wing- I think a B-wing and A-wing two-pack would be a great $110 price point set- but it is funny to point out that our last B-wing was less than 3 years apart from our last rebel Y-wing set.

I think this is generally very true.

Personally I would prefer the approach, in which different works would serve different audiences. Something like Andor for those who wish to see the dark end of the galaxy (that's me), something like Mandalorian or The Skeleton Crew who wish some lighter adventures with more humor.

What I detest are the mismatch between the source/theme and the representation, general lack of long-term planning and vision on Disney's end, and the overwhelming disregard of the logic and lore of the Star Wars universe, which unfortunately has been commonplace during the Disney era. Probably exactly because the directors have enforced their own visions, often without any particular love for the lore itself. I mean, Rian Johnson does not strike me as a person who would have ever read the Thrawn-trilogy for example, the original episodes VII - IX as a background material and source for his own work.

The mismatch between the source/theme and its representation means, how, for example, a horrible and dark theme is being delivered to the eyes of the children in some naive form. Probably not a popular opinion, but I personally never learned to like the Clone Wars exactly because of this. It does not really catch the atmosphere of the war, particularly not the first seasons. On the other hand, the Skeleton Crew is kind of genius in how it combines the adult elements of space piracy in a way, which is fitting for a child audience. It does not change the world as such, merely the way how it is delivered on the screen. There are a lot more dark things happening in the background, which you can see as an adult, but which are not totally obvious to kids following the same series. I would have wished something similar with the Clone Wars, too.

Oh, and I almost forgot. The Disney concept does not serve Star Wars well. It may work on children's animations based on ageless fairytales like the Lion King or Cinderella, but it is too rigid and ridiculously overwhelming in Star Wars. Just some examples, the Disney concept tends to force the main characters to be orphans and anti-heroes, so characters who do not want to be heroes but accidentally end up as ones by accident, and usually they are motivated by a will to escape something rather than by a will to pursue something.

Think about how different the Solo movie had been, if they had rather followed the somewhat more original idea that Solo was from a middle-class family on Corellia, which was one of the flourishing industrial core worlds, something like an image of the United States or European Union in the real world. This Solo then actively pursued the ideals of the New Order as a young man, even competed to be the best pilot in the Imperial fleet against the Baron Soontir Fel, until a turning point, which led to him abandon his friends in the fleet and free at least one wookie from horrible slavery, and how this experience shaped his later cynicism and self-reliance (and partly motivated to not abandon his friends the next time during the battle of Yavin). What we got instead was a Solo story crunched through the Disney machine: an orphan anti-hero driven only through the will to escape, and having no motivation whatsoever to pursue anything, just accidentally bumping from one adventure to the next, freeing even Chewbacca by a sheer accident without any sort of choice between loyalty and morals, friends and compassion, to be made. Then compare this ideal to Rey, and you see what I mean.

To tie the whole thing back to Lego, instead of just complaining about what should have been done and how, I'm going to produce some own Star Wars content with Lego, which tries to be more clever regarding these kinds of things (I'm semi-professional screenwriter, so it combines well two hobbies). I could share some snippets soon, actually.

Piece numbers leaked.

That Endor battle pack looks really awful at that price point and piece count. (Shouldn't be hard to give us 200+ pieces either, just throw in more greenery)

Also it looks like a color accurate new snowspeeder canopy could finally come... in a smart set. Rumoured price is 70 euro. 😭

So far the 2027 sets that interest me the most are the Endor battle pack and the Y-Wing. Concept art Chewie and Female Luke would be nice to have but for example the upscaled Luke is not really what I am looking for. Wasn't it said to be upscaled pilot Luke? What to do with so many orange parts?  Looking forward to learn more about the three Starfighter sets.

@BrickPrick Thanks bud, just had my sets delivered today!

Hmm, can’t say I’m too jazzed about some of the items in the leaked list. Anakin’s Jedi Starfighter being a 5+ set absolutely sucks, but hopefully the minifigure will at least be a good one. I will however calibrate my previous excitement for this set downwards in anticipation of disappointment.

And Smart Play is getting a whopping five new sets in April. We always knew enough time hasn’t yet elapsed for Lego to fully realise how much Star Wars Smart Play has been a massive flop, so this shouldn’t come across as a surprise. It’s disappointing that Ahsoka S2 is seemingly getting shafted whilst Smart Play continues to gobble set slots though, unless that changes next summer.

Okay, that piece count fits like a really weird middle ground ... It's more than your average standard Battle Pack coming in at up to 120 parts, but way less than the Super Battle Pack containing 200+ pieces. But given the new price point places exactly in between as well, this actually makes sense? For modern Lego Star Wars standards that is... not for a human being capable of rational thought.

The low piece count and 5+ age recommendation for Anakin's Jedi Starfighter is a bummer. But the former may be adventagous in terms of raising the likelihood of getting an appropriately detailed General Skywalker. One minifigure I will share the pleasure of anticipation with...

The non-trivial increases to battle pack pricing year after year is insanity. That said if we randomly learn a McQuarrie Stormtrooper is included in it, I will be tempted.

May our crusade for the upcoming General Skywalker minifigure conclude with tears of joy rather than sadness  I can’t believe how high I’m placing my hopes in this minifigure but I’ve really wanted it since we saw the degree of detail they applied to Kenobi last year.

Also just briefly wading into the Odyssey discussion without going too off topic, but I absolutely agree the film is a masterpiece. The deviations from the original epic are mostly palatable for me although I agree Achilles’ absence in the Hades sequence is quite a bummer. As a film lover, it’s been a dream to get the Odyssey and Brand New Day within weeks of each other.

Yep... It's a non-trivial matter for sure. Given the ongoing Clone Craziness™, I haven't been too keen on getting new Battle Packs for quite a while now. But now that it actually is based on an exciting and long overdue scene and sought after factions, I currently can't be too bothered due to the arbitrarily price increases. Still holding out hope there's more to it than we're afraid there will be, though I never considered an actual anniversary figure, but we'll see. :enough:

Word up, man. I'm telling you... It has to be General Skywalker with some pristine arm printing. It. Has. To. Happen. At. This. Point... you know? I mean, the now leaked info has it at near 20 cent per piece... I know PPP ratio is far from everything, never was and never will be, but with just R2 thrown into the mix, this is where the substantial amount of budget went to. Where else would it be, other than Billund billionaire's pockets?

The leak on Reddit threw me as some of it sounded very familiar and thought they were trolling then someone pointed out that more countries than the original 6 are getting this years wave next year. I do wonder does that mean the rest of the world be always a year behind with the smart sets or are they going to have a bumper wave in April (2 smart waves in one)?

also only curious about the Hoth smart set in case they redesign the rebel Hoth trooper as I keep forgetting there are normal minifigures still in the smart sets.

The battlepack still sounds bad for the RRP until we get confirmation that it’s either a 4 normal or 6 super I just lower my expectations for that.

with the JSF being 5+ are they normally that age range? Unless there is a figure other than Anakin and R2 it’ll be another pass for me.

im actually warming to the idea of the Ywing but still would have preferred a new republic version

I know rebel commandos V Imps was the rumour but if it's more figures then hopefully 1 or 2 ewoks have snuck in. Alien figures for star wars are always good to get and there were definitely more Ewoks than rebel commandos in the Endor battle.

I think it's fair to say most people who dislike Ewoks want Star Wars to be darker like ESB. The main criticism's I see of Ewoks is that they're cute and appeal to kids, something they don't want Star Wars to be. Thematically I think the ewoks work quite well and are consistent with the themes of the OT; big guy VS little guy/underdogs, which fits the Ewoks as they're quite literally small and unassuming.

I haven't played KOTOR so I can't really speak on if he'd fit that story or not.

I think opposing factions work better for two packs although it'd still be cool.

Well there goes the prediction that this would be the best year. I would say the august wave better be perfect, but I said that last year, and we still haven't gotten confirmation that two sets from THAT list are coming this august.

Anakin's jedi starfighter is going to be brutal, especially for $30. 160 pieces means it's 33% fewer pieces than his last delta-7, and 40% fewer than the most recent standard delta-7. I'm not expecting anything from that. It's fewer pieces than the battle pack of the same cost, which I think tells you something about the value.

Endor Battle Pack is slightly more pieces than a normal battle pack, but for $30 it doesn't matter. Even if the build was justified, which for a $30 set with 4 minifigs and only 168 pieces I doubt it, it's still moving away from being a standard battle pack and into just.. a $30 set.

Not only was I wrong about the poor sales meaning the smart play sets were dead... there's MORE. FIVE. Boba Fett's unpaid employee one returns with a PHD and there's an unknown one as well (my guess is a standard tie or a snowspeeder, as I doubt the battle of hoth set has room for one). If the updated leak includes this for only 8 months out... I don't think there's enough time for lego to look at the sales and turn back. I think we have to sit through another wave of this.

But definitely some positives:

Mustafar Duel at 372 pieces for $40 with 3 minifigs is pretty solid

Y-wing at 676 with 4 figs for $80 isn't bad either

Starfighter movie wave is now one we can reliably say doesn't include a statue or 18+ gimmick given the age ranges. It's most likely a speeder, The Gosfighter, and a villain starfighter.

One jewel regarding the gloomy atmosphere in some media pieces more than others is the Revenge of the Sith book by Matthew Stover. Episode III is my favorite movie, both considering Star Wars and generally any movie I have seen, but the book really does honor the original concept of the movie only adding a layer of poetic and profoundly dark atmosphere to it.

So much so that I once said to my ex, who is a teacher of literature, that The Revenge of the Sith is perhaps one of the most genius examples of post-modern narration with art-like style serving the feeling of an epic. She initially despised the idea to grant such an honor for any popular culture book (literature students want to make a difference between the literature of high and low esteem), but I read the book aloud to her, and even she had to admit that I had a point.

i have no idea what 5+ means, it's basically 4+, i really hope this leak is bogus haha
