[WZ10:F9, Desert King] The Final Battle

Recommended Posts

Petraea. The great and beautiful capitol of Ulandus at last. After months of blood, tears and sacrifice the last battle was about to end. The Pharao's forces poured in the streets, battling the city watch whereever they tried to assemble. Osric had no specific target, no mayor location to conquer. His troops wandered around, street after street, an urban jungle made out of stone and loam. The High Council's armies had already been broken weeks ago. The last defenders were only small contingents, and were also reduced by desertion.

*oh2* One day you say!? I love the way you angled the gate and those 2x2 tiles. Both buildings look really good too, but the amazing, dynamic minifig posing steals the show!:thumbup:

Nice scene overall with some nice buildings and great minifig posing!

I especially like the civilian peeking out through the door :classic:

Suggestion for improvement would be to eliminate the "light leakage" through the gaps between bricks in the house to the left and the wall. Maybe either build something behind covering the gaps, put something non-lego like a piece of cardboard or do some simple post-processing? Either way improve the sense of depth of the scene imho.

Absolutely one of my favorites, you made good buildings and packed a lot of action on the space.

Wow, what an epic end to this tragic and bloody conflict. Such a fearsome looking army Osric has built (can't wait to see it unleashed against the spire-demons in Nocturnus!). I really like how you avoided a big battle scene and instead depicted the two sides just moments from crashing into one another. It really creates a breathtaking sense of atmosphere, as if two storms were about to collide. No doubt this would prove to be one of the bloodiest campaigns of the war.

The build itself is wonderful, many excellent details big and small to enjoy. I love the angled castle wall in particular, gives a great sense of dimension to this build. The inn-style building and mosque are also fun to view (the fez-wearing-guy peeking out of the mosque is a sweet touch, as are the fleeing civys). Superb work as usual Jacob, no doubt Petraea is firmly in the hands of the Desert King!

You have done an excellent job with this, especially since it was built in one day. The contrast of styles in the architecture, the abundance of minifigs and all the action going on really is impressive. I also like the angled bley tiled floor in the corner there. Again excellent job.

That must have been a very productive "one day" indeed. Marvellous scene, full of action, full of details.

Smoke has turned out well (does fall apart quickly, doesn't it? )

Colourwise I would have asked for a small shift from grey to tan (but that is my taste) - otherwise

I've posted on this build already but had to congratulate you on getting this frontpaged alongside a few of your others for Ch. IV. I've never seen someone have that many MOCs frontpaged at once before. :oh: But it is very well deserved. If there's anyone the DK owes its victory to, it's you. Sehr gut mein freund!

Lovely work on all of it. Thanks, getting a lot of ideas from your builds!

Agree with Gideon though. Didn't notice it at first but the slight light gaps would be easy to fix.

Great layout and lovely build

wow, thanks everyone so much for your comments. I'm just glad it's the last entry for cat. c. this pressure of finishing several builds every week over two months was getting nasty.

Thanks very much, I'm happy I could finally throw in nearly all of my troops. The fact that the two parties are just about to meet in this scene wasn't planned, it came out that way because I placed the first figs as soon as I had done some ground. And at the end, there was no place to show some fighting soldiers.

Nice scene overall with some nice buildings and great minifig posing!

And again you're right! You mentioned that in an earlier build and I really took it to heart in most of my larger stuff since then. But on this last one I just got lazy. Bad habit :/

My smoke is built sturdy  You're right on the transition from grey to tan. I didn't plan the floor, so when I ran out of grey tiles I had to use the dk tan ones, and therefore make some kind of frame to cover the gaps between. Not my favourite solution, but I hoped tons of minifigs would side track you

Danke you :sweet: but don't say that, none of us could bear the whole war by himself. It's just an amazing team effort we'v done. It's like everyone had his time to shine somewhere in the challenge and did exactly the right thing at the right moment.

The sudden change from grey tiles to tan plates looks a little odd but otherwise this is a beautiful depiction. The buildings all look good with their different colors and architectural styles; I especially like the one on the left. But the sheer number of minifigs and all their various accessories and poses really make this a lively scene indeed. As already stated, the positioning of the onrushing opposing forces, just before they meet in battle, transforms the overall mood of the scene. Likewise I'll echo the thought that the presentation would be better if such a strong light wasn't flooding through the archway (but I like the light coming through the windows!). Oh, and congrats on being frontpaged. Good work!

Wow! This is your Price for an awesome show. Well deserved Frontpage!

Personally I liked you're GA's/CG's the most. You have thrown out some very creative stuff there. Cyclops, Sea Horse, Rat orphanage...

Btw: Should that be me running? ^^ very realistic!

Alles Gute, ich freu mich auf mehr!

Outstanding work, Jacob

I love how you you made the houses and the castle wall. The posing of the minifigures and the quality of the photos is perfect, too.

Superb layout, easy to see what's going on, yet still multiple buildings, and some off the grid angles

Great fig posing too :classic:
