Hello! This time other fraction, Wolfpack. This is one of my favourite nation of Lego Castle. Maybe that gatehouse will be a part of something bigger :) I want to build big fortress based on modular elements, which could be useable in other models. Hello! My first Lego mech. Light construction adapted to work in M-Tron complexes. Easy to configure - there is a possibility to quick change kind of arms. There is a number and type of machine on left arm - LM63 - Light Mech, number 63. I had a lot of issues during rendering, flex element was invisible after render, so I decided to remove that element and use other solution. Hello everyone, I ventured a bit into stud.io lately and wanted to have Technic planetary wheel hub 46490c01 from set 42099 so after some investigation and suggestions from facebook and instagram I managed to create three separate parts with all connections between them and "the outer world" as well. Feel free to check it out in my bricksafe folder. I suggest putting all three parts together and group them. The hub and the socket can be rotated independently. I hope you find it useful and would appreciate your opinions, especially if you do find any mistakes in geometry or connections. G'day Everyone, long time lurker, first time poster. Recently sat down with @pennyforge for an interview following a presentation he did on digital LEGO at London AFOLs. He goes through an introduction to digital modelling, rendering and instruction creation, comparing the pros and cons of popular digital tools like LDD, LDCad and Stud.io. I learnt a lot from the presentation so thought it had to be captured so others could also see it. We cover his letters to LEGO script We also cover his Voxel script Would love to hear anyones thoughts. Anything you learned from it?

A long, long time ago I started working on a micro scale Millennium Falcon. To begin with all I wanted to do was add detail to the Microfighter but I kept tinkering and before I knew it I had a growing collection of micro Star Wars freighters and fighters, and here they are! Instructions for all these little builds are on my Rebrickable page. Since this all started with that Falcon Microfighter the cockpit piece (a light blueish-grey 2x2 truncated cone) became my yardstick for scale. Luckily trans-black 1x1 slope pieces work as fighter cockpits at the same scale so all the ships are, and will continue to be, as close to scale with each other as I can manage, at least based on these pieces and whatever reference images I can gather from Google. My Blockade Runner (April 2021) is the last ship on my micro Star Wars to-do list, although it’s hardly micro! The size and weight were a new challenge for me, I’ve never had to worry about a moc falling apart under its own weight before, but I enjoyed the challenge and managed to make it pretty easy to pick strong. I’ve put together instructions for the Tantive IV as well as the Liberator from Star Wars Rebels, which I couldn’t resist building for myself. Rather than doing new posts for each new ship I’ll edit the very long post below. All the instructions are on my Rebrickable page and there are photos and Studio renders some photos of the ships in this post, plus a few more on Flickr and Instagram. Thanks for looking!

Studio 2.0 (or rather, "Part Designer") is able to export to LDraw. Unfortunately Bricklink has chosen to roll out their own standard for texture mapping, rather than following the official spec. I do not care for the reason for Bricklink to go this way. It personally took me almost a month to implement it, so I fully understand if they wanted to choose something less complex. Instead I would like to dedicate this thread to converting between the two formats. In order to do this, we have to understand the format that Studio exports to. If you want to jump directly to a live demo, then please click "3D" on the page I have set up here. When creating a new part in Part Designer, you can choose either "Minifig", "Decorated Part" or "Create Part From Scratch". I will start with "Decorated Parts" and take the two other options later. Update! The commands "PE_TEX_PATH" and "PE_TEX_INFO" are proprietary from Studio. I have not yet found a "PE_TEX_PATH" command that does not say "-1", so let's ignore it for now. The other command has a base64 encoded picture as the argument. The geometry lines have one sub part (in this case "s/3008s01.dat") and 2 or more triangle lines. I have yet to see any file being generated with quads, lines or any other content after the encoded picture. The Encoded Picture The base64-encoded picture is not simply the picture you upload to Part Designer. It will be processed. I have found that the encoded picture is scaled up and has been given a transparent border. I do not know why the border is added - perhaps someone can give me some insight here. Computing Projections In the LDraw specification you have to specify how to project a texture onto underlying geometry. Unfortunately the exported LDraw files from Studio do not contain any other information than what I have stated above. You thus have to take each part one-by-one and compute your own LDraw TEXMAP projections. I have found the following heuristic works for most of the supported parts (see exceptions in the section below): 1) Take the minimal axis-aligned 3D bounding box of all the points of the triangles. Call this box B. Let Bx, By, and Bz be its length along the X, Y and Z-axes, respectively. 2) Expand B by 10% in each direction to account for the border introduced to the picture. 3) If 2*By < Bx and 2*By < Bz, then assume the projection should be performed on an XZ plane. Otherwise, project onto an XY plane. 4) No matter the projection, choose the points for the planar projection defined in the LDraw specification to be corners from B. Exceptions: 2x4 Brick and 2x2x2 Slope For the parts "Brick 2 x 4" and "Slope 2 x 2 x 2" you can choose two pictures for decorating the front and back of the part. For the 2x4 brick, the two pictures get merged into a single picture - the front picture on top and the back picture below. There will be 4 triangles in the LDraw file - the two first for the front side, and the other for the back side. For the 2x2x2 slope, the two pictures also get merged into a single picture, however, this time they are side-by-side: Front picture on the left and rear picture on the right. For both exceptions, I have had to introduce "magical numbers" in order to get a proper alignment of projections. Please see the source code here for how to compute projections in JavaScript for the buildinginstructions.js project. Non-Standard Alignment of Sub-Part and Geometries Please take a look at the line for the sub part: 1 16 0.0000 -24.0000 0.0000 1.0000 0.0000 0.0000 0.0000 1.0000 0.0000 0.0000 0.0000 1.0000 s/3008s01.dat The positioning is off: Normally you would place the sub part at (0, 0, 0), but here it is at (0, 24, 0). This position has to be translated so that the sub part is at (0, 0, 0) in order for the custom part to appear correctly. You have to subtract the position of the sub part from all the positions of the triangles as well. By following the observations above, I have been able to create the converter from Studio LDraw to standard LDraw as seen in the source code here for. This is what powers the 3D viewer here. As you can see, there are still some precision issues - most noticeably on the 1 x 8 tile where the "10% rule" doesn't seem to work perfectly. Another issue is that I cull textured surfaces on transparent parts, while Studio does not. Please tell me if you have other observations. My plan for now is to continue with Minifigs.

Hi Everybody!!!! I m really new to designing so I kind of need some help!!!! PLeaaaase :) I basically bought some instructions of a moc and was not happy with it in general. did not like the details as well as the underlying structure so decided to give it a go and downloaded studio! I m really excited and been working on the project at least a month now and must say I m handling it really well! BUT this particular set nets nets strings tubes that need flexing etc. That is where I got a problem!!! For example nets are not even available on the program and tubes are really hard to manipulate and connect... I did a search on you tube and in the forum but did not find an answer... I would really appreciate any help or advice!!!

I´m going to make instructions of a simple MOC I made in LDD, and for one part of the MOC I need a 1x2 tile to slide along a "1x1 brick with stud on one side" like in the second image below. But in LDD and Studio it seems to only be possible to place the tile in three positions on the stud which means I can´t place it the way I need to. So I wonder if anyone has a solution for this? Is it possible to set the exact coordinates manually for the tile in some way? (I should add that I´m fairly new to Studio so perhaps I have missed how I can do it there)

Just for info, Studio has been updated to version 2.0.12_1, here the changelog: Bug fixes: Fixed bug where Minifig left leg (972) doesn't have its connectivity info. Fixed bug where RGB input fields for arrows wouldn't appear in the color picker. Fixed typo in the description of the auto recovery option. Features: Added 13 new parts. Added an ability to do exact match search '=id(PARTID)'. Made visual difference for each step title in the steplist. Changed color labels for special material colors like rubber and metallic. Improvements: Filter feature; now you are able to search parts within the parts list. Added an ability to modify assembly parts such as Minifig torso and legs without breaking their original group structure.

Hi, My friend and I are working together on a project. He sent me a studio project file which I wish to open in LDD. I didn't manage to find an .lxf option in Stud.io's export menu. Could anyone help?

Hi, I am working in Studio 2.0, and almost done with my design. But when I do the instruction, I notice that I misuse part 4459(pin with friction with central slot) for part 2780(pin with friction without central slot). So the question is, is there a easy way to replace part of one type to another type in studio? Thanks.

Studio renders of my awful locomotive designs will be posted here. If you think you can offer me helpful advice or teach me something to help me improve, please feel free to do so. I'm not going to take offense at being told I suck, I know I have a lot to learn. One thing I struggle with a lot is knowing what parts are available for a particular job - programs like Studio really help there. If you know of any awesome useful parts I don't seem to be using, please point them out. I also tend to avoid extensive SNOT work unless it's really necessary - I find that Anyway. Here are two based on the same rolling chassis and cylinder arrangement: This one is an early attempt, years ago, in LDD to model a decent steam loco with articulation and valve gear. Another very early LDD model: I'm aware that they all need work - please, if you can think of specific things to improve upon what you see, do say so. I have others to upload when I dig out an old hard drive or two, if people are interested in not just saying "that sucks", but maybe saying "that sucks in this specific area where I think this specific brick or SNOT configuration might really help improve the look". I'd like constructive criticism. Something I can use - something that will help me improve. Don't tell me if I did something right. Don't tell me it looks terrible without telling me where and why I went wrong. Please, help me learn and grow if you're open to sharing your collective expertise. Thanks in advance!

Hello! This is my first tenement house built in Studio app. Building is modular; walls, roof and rest can be simply removed, so you can easy arrange interiors :) Also street is modular, in my opinion that approach give a big capabilities. Hi all, After spending a lot of time making Star Wars MOCs, I've ventured back into the realm of my imagination to come up with what for now will be called a Freight Hopper! LEGO Freight Hopper MOC by TeddytheSpoon, on Flickr The design is based on one of my very first creations back when I was 12 or so, which I unfortunately don't have any pictures of. I re-imagined it and had a blast, so it might be something I do more often in future! LEGO Freight Hopper MOC by TeddytheSpoon, on Flickr While it wasn't intentional it bears more than a passing resemblance to a Sikorsky CH-54 helicopter with its infamous missing middle. In my head this is a small freighter designed for short-range cargo deliveries or container handling in large freight depots. I recently installed LDD and Stud.io on my new laptop and ran into issues with both - only 4.3 would install from the lego site so I tried downloading from another source, but 4.3 (I believe this was up to date around 2012) is the only version I could download. On Stud.io, I had issues with connection - plates often do not align without making sure they slide completely down the studs without clashing which is annoying, and minifig arms do not connect to torsos without being aligned perfectly with the hinge tool. I believe this has only been an issue since the most recent update. Any help with either issue would be appreciated!

Hey gals and guys, Some of you may already know, I’ve been promoted to Discussions Moderator on BrickLink and especially Forum Moderator of the Studio forum. One of my tasks is to help with the communication between the users and the dev team: help with the bugs reports and suggestions and forward the worthy ones. I’ve already started looking into messages that didn’t (seem to) get attention from the devs. I know there are old bugs and worthy suggestions out there. But there are things I thought were only a couple weeks ago that actually date from months ago. And it wouldn’t be effective to awaken old threads to ask for details. (Besides, there’s a couple of things (hem…) that don’t work well on the Studio forum, like notifications.) So, if you remember (have a link to) an old but persistent bug or a worthy suggestion for Studio or PartDesigner, please send me a message (PM) with a link, or come make a new post on the Studio forum (in the correct topic please). And if you like a suggestion, feel free to add a comment as a way to vote for them, or, even better, to add details or examples. I obviously can’t guarantee every bug will be solved and every suggestion implemented but I’ll forward and follow them. Thanks!

Hello everyone, I was looking over the forum whether same question has been already posted somewhere, but couldn't find it, so I hope I am not doubling the topic: Q1: Is there a possibility to extend or shorten the technic linear actuators (92693c01, 61927c01 and 40918c01) in stud.io? Are there at least parts made of those in shortest and longest state and where can they be found? Q2: Is there a tool or a trick to align two i.e. liftarms, each with its own fixed pivot point to a position where those two cross (like two circles crossing each other) - is it possible to find that exact crossing in stud.io? I am putting most of my hopes into @efferman, @Zerobricks and @M_longer as I've seen quite a lot of great digital stuff coming from them. I would really appreciate any help from any other who might know something about it as well. I thank you in advance, Best regards, Miha

I loved Lego's new Steamboat so set out to create my own. A lot of techniques and inspo from Legos new set, and the design for the craft herself was inspired by the current steamboat 'Natchez'. She has around 15941 parts, including base, and 15176 without, including 484 1x1 white plates, 291 white profile 1x2 bricks ( brick design) and 576 1x4 white brick profile bricks (which dont exist), 1050 telescopes, and 1082 1x6 brown tiles. The name 'Amelia' has no significance to me, but its the same as lego's new steamer, the reason i had chosen it. There is a full interior on my flickr and I can show some more photos if you'd like. Theres a full engine room, toilet for crew, kitchen, entertainment area, gift shop, and more. and a comparison to a vessel the rough size of Legos new steamer. So yea, pretty large size difference. This is my largest MOC by both size and part count. I've kept the post brief but if anyone has any questions, or just general c and c, thats totally appreciated! Good day all!

I hope you like it and I will appreciate if you consider supporting it on the LEGO IDEAS website. You can arrange the art gallery walls by your choise, for example by folding it like a heart. The build is multifunctional, so there is the ability to detach paintings and display them as picture frames, or hang them on a real wall.
