  1. I only ever buy LEGO when on sale at 40 % or higher (with the rare exception of an occational collectible minifigure or MISB out of production set); if I can't get sets at that price, I usually pass. LEGO is simply too expensive otherwise. Heck, even at sale prices I find it rather expensive compared to other consumer goods. While I love LEGO, I sadly don't find them to represent good value for my money at MSRP. So basically, when LEGO refuses to let exclusive items go on sale, they aren't making me pay full price - they simply miss out on the sale alltogether.
  2. Since everyone else seems to love it, I'll go ahead and be the odd one: I think the Sea Cow looks absolutely terrible. I doubt I'd even want to buy it at half price. Just re-introduce Pirates as a theme this summer already, LEGO! Darnit.
  3. That's a good find indeed. Two of the most beloved and sought-after pirate ships in 1 fairly cheap haul, with one of them even being there as a surprise... nice!
  4. I couldn't agree more. The highlighted part especially is what really drew me in. Good thing the Dragon Knight green goes well with Helm's Deep...
  5. I'm not usually into this theme, but wow... great work! Fantastic scene. Most of the figures, I can't even tell are homemade! Amazing customization there.
  6. Impressive work, as always. I especially like how you turned the Dragon Mountain set into a troll set. I like seeing real sets modded like that. Great fit with the dragon, too.
  7. This thing looks WAY better than I would have ever imagined. I'm actually impressed. Good look, interesting parts. Probably too expensive for my blood, but a much better set than I (and I think actually most others) had expected. Kudos to the designers. They really capture the house.
  8. I actually love the movies, but doesn't care for licensed LEGO. I'm a traditional yellowist! That said: yes, I do buy a lot of the LOTR/Hobbit sets. They often have much better design, parts, colours and accessories than what LEGO passes off as a Castle theme these days. In fact, they blow that theme away completely. While generally preferring generic Castle figures (with the exception of the current Castle line, where pretty much all generic figures are crap), I keep some of the figures; ones that has no skin showing on them and can easily be "yellow-ified" while also fitting in a fantasy Castle setting, such as Gandalf or Gimli. Most of the figures though, I sell through Bricklink. It's an excellent way to get some of the money back for these extra spicy-priced licensed sets. If only the poor figures from the current Castle theme were as easy to get rid of... I buy some sets because I think the structure is amazing and fits into my Castle collection, like the already mentioned excellent Helm's Deep - and some sets because they have great parts (often tree-parts, which I always desire), like Council of Elrond, Attack of the Wargs and Mirkwood Spiders. Both as a parts pack or set as a whole, I will, as many others, emphasize Helm's Deep as not just one of the best LOTR/Hobbit sets, but probably also one of the best LEGO sets in general in recent times. As a whole, the LOTR/Hobbit line is actually my favourite LEGO theme at the moment, mostly due to LEGO not having a proper Castle or Pirates offering.
  9. Good review, as always. The alternative build is fairly neat, I could definetely see it being useful for city builders.
  10. Another great review, another crappy LEGO Movie Set. While a Castle collector, I still find this one to be one of the worst builds of this theme. Very lackluster and underwhelming.
  11. Another fine review, thanks. While not into city, I must say that this set is pretty fine due to the alternative "regular ice cream truck" build. A refreshingly different build with lots of details. Don't care for the flying machine version though.
  12. A very strange mix of themes and styles, but a very impressive collection you got there. :)
  13. Good review. Of all the LEGO Movie sets (which I generally don't find too interesting), I think this one is (so far) the best. I especially like the big plane with all the many interesting details and parts as well as the Rootbeer Belle figure.
  14. Good review, below average set. Nothing of interest to me. I do enjoy Biznis Kitty a lot more than I probably should, though...
  15. Great review, thanks. While not a fantastic set per se, mostly due to, as mentioned, the walls being too short... I do find it a nice parts pack, as I always love "three parts" and also lack this light tan colour. Not a big fan of the shields though, but like how the hooded elves can be converted into yellow figs. I might keep those two. I'll be getting 1-2 of these and then part with the figs I don't want (which is most of them).
  16. Extremely impressive castle in every way. How long did it take to build?
  17. 7037 all the way. I'd love to get it myself. The other one... not so much.
  18. Brilliant, beautiful and fearsome.
  19. While this sounds interesting, I'm not going to get my hopes up too soon... could he perhaps simply be referencing the Disney Princess line?
  20. Oh I disagree, I think the big rock pieces actually gives it a good look.
  21. You think so? It's one of my favourite Hobbit sets. But then again, I'm always a sucker for sets that include trees/leaves in interesting colours. I love Council of Elrond for the same reason. The dark red and the new mushrooms in this set are great. It's one of the few sets (along with Council of Elrond) that I have bought multiples of.
  22. A great review for a lackluster set. I voted 'average' myself, and feel I was being rather generous. While we've had a couple of good sets for The Hobbit so far, they generally aren't nearly as good as the LOTR sets for some reason. It's like they're using the B-material for The Hobbit. Radagast and the grey statue are the only highlights in this set for me, but they definetely aren't essential enough for me to buy this set. It's a plus that they made the set modular though - but ultimately falls short on the fact that neither this set nor it's smaller companion are particularly interesting.
  23. Fantastic review, atrociously poor CMF series. There's just 1 'maybe' in the series for me, the rest I'll definetely stay away from.
