Same here. Blew my mind when I saw it. Fantastic work, fantastic dedication. Just amazing all around.

Thanks for the pic, I was waiting for this. I'm still not impressed though, the alternate build looks too much like a secondary build (which, of course, it is). Oh well, at least some of the new Hobbit sets can be used to stem my Castle cravings.

How about the Gatehouse Raid set from this wave? It's specifically designed to latch onto the Castle. And if you're up for some creative building, I'd like to suggest something like this old classic:

Incredible. The whole nature/wildlife thing you have going looks so organic and full of life.
-
Ooooh nice one, thanks.

Where do I find that?

I echo this sentiment. Fantastic set, and a great review!

I'm not sure I have seen the same Disney Princess sets as the rest of you, because the ones I have seen are full of huge, unusable parts, pink colours and weird-looking animals. There's hardly anything in those sets I find valuable for castle building.

Green Dragons, Crusaders and Black Falcons. Closely followed by Forestmen. Man, there are so many awesome ones.

Castle is my favorite theme and I really don't care for licensed minifigs - but even I enjoy the LOTR/Hobbit sets far more than the current Castle line, due to their (subjective) higher quality in terms of variety, build, parts and colouring.

[MOC] the Hobbit: Out of the Frying-Pan into the Fire
Hive replied to Legopard's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
This the topic has been bumped, I might as well throw in my own appreciation of the build; I never cared much for the silly domino-tipping tree scene in the movie, but this rendition of it is nonetheless beautiful in every way. Andt he eagle surely makes the LEGO versions look shameful, though I don't recall the eagles in the movies having any white feathers anywhere...? -
I concur, the lighting looks absolutely spectacular!

The official set names makes perfect sense in terms of marketing. And frankly, I fail to see how it can be *that* bothersome. In most cases, they're fairly accurate.

+1 Simply amazing. A real joy to behold. It's what all us castle builders strive for.

I managed to snatch the Friends Doplhin Cruiser at 50 % off yesterday, but it was sold out about 15 min later. Those white hull pieces will do for a nice pirate ship. These days, it might pay off to take a look at amazon a few times per day - as the really good offers seem to come and go!

Wow, so amazing. A fantastic display piece.

Fantastic MOC, it's a piece of art! Very enjoyable to look at. Well done!

I agree, the brick bricks looks great in this build.

I don't care for Age of Empires, never did. But I find these builds to be very well made and definately wouldn't mind seeing them produced. Good job!

LEGO Collectable Minifigures - The LEGO Movie Series Discussion
Hive replied to Klaus-Dieter's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Hmm. Worst wave so far. Oh well, I'll get one of the mermaids. -
Love the blacksmith, great idea! Very troll-like build with fitting colours. The 6040 Blacksmith is one of my favorite classic Castle sets due to it's simplicity and great modularity that allows it to function as a diverse and interesting addon for a castle. I have been meaning to do a Kingdoms version of it for a while, but haven't gotten around to it. Do you have the medusa figure? Her head and possibly torso as well could make for a great female troll.

That would be really cool, I bet we'd see a lot more imaginative and innovative designs than my own.
-
Yeah, sorry... but I had to take the pics with my phone. I see what you mean, but I didn't want to make them too different - as I felt it would then be harder to compare them directly. There are a few differences, but they are very subtle.
-
Hehe sorry. Your build is a lot more original though, and I love the detail with the chain to control the beast with. I agree on both accounts. While it's not exactly an oustanding set, it's definately the most interesting of the wave for me - the only one with some originality.

Kingdoms may be long gone, but I refuse to let go! ...so I did a small rebuild of one of the new sets with the much inferior dragon knights: Comparison shot: Is it better? Worse? The same?
