Keep it. It's unlikely that we'll ever see a better LEGO ship than this.

How Many Mirkwood Elf Army Sets Do You Plan on Buying?
Hive replied to Deathleech's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I will likely get two Mirkwood sets but only got one Uruk-Hai sets. The reason being that I don't buy this things so much for the figures, but for the bricks - and while it was definetely cool that the Uruk-Hai set connects to my (still yet to actually build) Helm's Deep set, it's just a bunch of mainly grey pieces. As a Castle theme collector, I have tons of grey bricks already. But tan and brown (both shades), I can always use more of. And the hooded elves are great as a kind of Forestmen. My main gripe with the Mirkwood set is that I really don't fancy the shields, which I had expected more from. I'll sell those as well.- 102 replies

That was my big dream. Oh what could have been... Really, I'm not fully convinced that kids respond better to the current theme than Kingdoms - but I suppose LEGO know what they're doing.
-
My main gripe with the current Castle line compared to Kingdoms is that the figures and heraldy feels much more cheesy and childlike to me. Which is, of course, as others have pointed out, natural due to LEGO targeting a lower age group with this theme.

How Many Mirkwood Elf Army Sets Do You Plan on Buying?

I'll buy 1 for sure, possibly 2 if it's on a good discount. I'll be selling most of the figures on Bricklink, but might keep some of the hooded elfs to replace their flesh colors with yellow. But mostly, I'm just interested in the bricks.- 102 replies

Nice. Mirkwood Spiders is one of my favorite Hobbit sets so far, have two of them - mostly for the leaves and mushrooms.

True. I definetely understand what LEGO is doing with this theme - I just wish they stop doing it soon, and get back on the "right" track.
-
Well of course, that goes without saying. It was merely my own subjective viewpoint. I sincerely hope that you are wrong, and that their next (and hopefully soon to surface) Castle theme will go back to the Fantasy Castle/Kingdoms approach.

Fantastic news that they are listening regarding unnecessary flesh colors on the torsos.

While I have bought all but the smallest of these new sets (and will likely pick it up at some point), and even bought two of the Dragon Mountain - but I must admit that I wouldn't complain if they end the theme after just this one wave; the sooner they end it, the sooner a new and (hopefully) better can take its' place...

Petraea University - Grand lecture theatre and debating hall

This is one of the most amazing mocs I have ever seen due to all the details in the build. Wow. Truly astonishing. -
Decent enough sets, these 3 new ones. Not the best designs I've seen in the LOTR/Hobbit range, but seems like some nice parts. And the elven wall is different enough to be interesting, with slightly unusual colors and stuff. The focus of these sets are clearly on the figures, of which only the hooded elves interest me personally, but I'll likely get the two big structures for the interesting parts and sell off the figs. Together with the already announced river town it's a rather nice, but not fantastic, wave all in all.

It's extremely lazy. Too much repetition. The highlights of the set are the rare dark red bandanas, two of them to boot. And it's nice enough to get some "new" faces. Still, not good enough for the price.

Great and unusual idea, I will eagerly await the result.

Back in the old days, big Castles could have 12 minifigs and 2-4 horses. These days, it's 7 figs and 1 horse.

Inspired by how great the KKII Scorpion shields and colours look on Hass Kabal's impressive pirate ship "Scorpion's Soul Pirate" (http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=61406&st=0), me and my girlfriend set out to do our own, smaller scorpion ship. Our goal was to make it look like a real LEGO set and it is therefore heavily inspired by existing sets. Since neither one of us had ever built a pirate ship moc before, we also felt it was a good idea to start with official techniques. I'd like to apologise for the poor pictures, but I don't really know how to do better. Anyway, here she is, The Scorpion's Wrath: It's hard to see, but the sword he's holding is black... The dark red and gold nuances aren't captured too well on the photos; they look better in real life, I think. All in all, I'm pretty happy with the outcome.

I couldn't disagree more, the water is my favorite part. It makes it all look so alive and vibrant.

Beautiful skin, well done. Very pleasant to the eyes.

Most of the cool promo bags aren't available in Europe unless you buy them for big cash through expensive importers. It bugs me endlessly.
-
Where do you find that one? I've never seen one here in Denmark, sadly... ...and what horse are you talking about?

This is all kinds of awesome.

These 33 % off deals seems to be fluctuating a bit. Check back the next couple of days, they may come back!
-
Most Castle and LOTR/Hobbit sets are 33 % off at Amazon at the moment as well. Some really good deals to be made.
-
I took advantage of Amazon having 33 % off on most sets and got the following: 70403: Dragon Mountain (x2) 70402: The Gatehouse Raid 70401: Gold Getaway 79007: Battle at the Black Gate 79006: The Council of Elrond (x2) I'm going to sell most of the minifigs to recoup some of the expenses. Luckily, there's not many of those figs that interest me.

I actually think that recolouring was quite spectacular, much better looking than the original. I'd like to see it released.
