Thanks for this, it's interesting to behold. It improves Soldiers Fort, but the combined structure is still a lot less impressive than the 2009 edition. I especially think that the lack of baseplates hurts 70412 a lot and make sit look cheap and flimsy.

Depends on how you feel about used sets. For me, a big part of the joy of getting a new LEGO set is opening the crisp bags and pulling out the factory-fresh pieces for the first time. It's something special for me.

Beautiful! This is the time of MOCs I enjoy the most, I'm always a sucker for a detailed medieval setup with lots of life and civilian activities.

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 12 Rumours and Discussion
Hive replied to Rufus's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Am I the only one who's having issues with clutching power of the hats on several of these figs? They just won't stay on in any sort of sturdy way, as LEGO hats usually does. I know they make the figs in China and that the plastic is different, but one should still expect them to uphold rudamentary quality expectations. I'm dissapointed.- 1,109 replies

MOC: King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table
Hive replied to Reekardoo's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
It's a cool and interesting moc, but it'll never be a LEGO set; it has too many figures, too much repetition and limited playability. I do think a "King Arthur" theme has possibilities though, but LEGO Ideas doesn't do whole themes - only single playsets. And as such, this doesn't really fit the criterias. But again: it's a nice moc!- 13 replies

To be honest - and yes, this is a purely egoistical wish - I'd like them to do a straight re-release of the Imperial Flagship, as I didn't get it last time around.
-
And so you should, I myself do the same. But that doesn't change the fact that I find it disturbing when someone puts the blame of theft on the victim, thereby indirectly suggesting that the thiefs are in their right to do so.
-
I think this attitude is equal parts shocking, disturbing and sad.

She's not wearing a soldier's uniform nor hat and she's in the same set as the govenor... so I think it's a reasonable deduction to assume she's his daughter. And I don't really see what's wrong with that, it's simply creating harmless context for her placement there.
-
Interesting. But also a bit weird, since the part doesn't seem all that PoTC-specific to me. Oh well, I guess I'll just have to cherish the ones I have.
-
Oh yeah, weird that they aren't utilizing the PoTC sheaths. Those were great.

Wow, absolutely stunning! I too would have liked to see it in white, but one cannot deny that this is a fantastic piece of work!

Sure, there are lots of differences. Minor differences. The overall structure, sails, and colours are practically the same (replacing dark red with red is not exactly a huge variation, is it?). If you don't think they are much the same, then try comparing the ships to earlier pirate ships such as Black Seas Barracuda, Skull's Eye Schooner or Red Beard Runner. The differences between these ships is soooo much greater than between Brickbeard's Bounty and Brickbeard's Bounty II The Brick Bounty. Noone has been disputing that the minifigs are different and great, we're talkining about the ship itself. It's a fine enough ship in it's own right (though not quite on par with it's 2009 sibling), but most of us who owns the 2009 lineup had simply expected something a bit more fresh and innovative. Also, though it's not a major issue, I miss the "damsel in distress" type figure in the ship...
-
Yeah, you're right... it's definetely a new mold, and it doesn't look very good (at least in pictures). I'm both dissapointed and puzzled. And the more I look at the fort, the more I'm beginning to think that the biggest dissapointment of the wave isn't the ship... the fort is, in spite of a really nice new flag and excellent minifigs, pretty terribly built. But the other sets are growing on me. And I'm eager to see the inside of that ship, as the piece count really suggests something must be there...

Thanks for the pictures, just2good! I must say, I'm really loving the figures and how they're basically modern versions of the good old classics from the first pirate lineup in the late 80's. Well done, LEGO! I also like the new shark and I absolutely adore the retro map tile design. Some good accessories in general. But... the set designs themselves are a bit lacking, and the ship especially is every bit as as dissapointing as the prelim pictures suggested. And I must agree with the consensus: a new bandana mold is absurdly unnecessary. But are we absolutely sure it's a new mold...? Oh, and those frogs? What's the deal with them? Weird. Double oh: is it just me, or does the hook on the captain look different from the usual hooks...? All in all though, I'll say that while not on par with 2009 Pirates, this theme is (thankfully) lengths better than Castle 2013. So in spite of some minor dissapointments (and one major: the flagship), I'm looking very much forward to this theme.

Even though I'm not into Ninjago, I did find the interview interesting. Thanks!

Review: 10228 Haunted House
Hive replied to mostlytechnic's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
I'm considering buying this most excellent set but am a bit worried whether it'll fit in my display cabinet. Can someone who owns this kindly tell me the dimensions of the build? Just for the house, ignoring the gate. EDIT: Nevermind, found it elsewhere. -
That's because it's a blatant ripoff from a set in the 2009 Pirates lineup, which was of far better quality.
-
Thanks for the good review! I had originally planned on getting this set, but after this review I think I'll pass. The set simply has too little going for it and is mediocre at best for someone who's not all that into the figures.
-
Wow, just wow.
-
Oh boy, amazing deal! I'm jealous, I've been wanting 7029 for quite some time. Great find! What else did you get?
-
Nice story, congrats (both with the birthday and with the impressive Haunted House)! Where did you hear that it's getting discontinued?
