Fantastic pictures, everyone! This is one of my first ever Pirate sets, and the biggest Pirate set I owned back when I was a kid. It has nostalgic value for me, but it's also a pretty great build for its' size. It has everything it needs to be a fun experience both to build and play with, lots of stuff going on and great figures. If only all sets were like this.

I love it! Fantastic work, it's a really nice colour combination that perfectly captures the autumn spirit. Very easy on the eyes and very well-made. Good job, whoever did it!

I disagree, I find it to be exactly the worst possible thing. The worst set of the wave for sure, with nothing interesting going for it. The 2009 fort was superior to this in every single way, and I doubt some nice finishing up and stickers can change that from the prelims.

There already is a 'general' version of this thread, in the community section iirc.

I agree with this. An impressive build, but it looks more like an oversized crossbreed between a Rock Raider monster and a Mixel. But impressive nonetheless!

Look closely at pictures of both, the stern is practically identical.

One word: wow!

The SES had colours on the ship itself that matches the black and white sails. This new ship doesn't; in fact, it's colours doesn't really lend itself to the sails being anything but red and white. There's simply too much red in it. But I'd love to be wrong on this, as differently coloured sails is about the only thing that can save it from being a poor ripoff of Brickbeard's Bounty. And honestly, I think that those people saying that they can see tons of differences between the two ships (as it looks now, in the prelim pics) are fooling themselves. Sure, there are subtle differences and variations - but 99 % of the build is exactly the same, and the colours aren't even that different. I don't mind LEGO being lazy and rehashing an older ship, but why on earth not do the BSB or SES then? What dissapoints me the most is that the stern is identical to that of the last one, even down to the weirdly placed cannon.

I'm extremely dissapointed that this "new" pirate ship is 99 % identical to the 2009 ship. It's nice that we'll get some new blue coats though, and I'm sure that some of these sets will turn out decent enough when finished. The biggest problems with them aren't the sets themselves, it's that LEGO choose to omit doing large sets this wave.

I don't see LEGO ever producing a main Castle theme with pink colours for one of the factions. Stereotype or not, I think it would put off a lot of boys - and LEGO knows that. Other than that, isn't it a bit too soon to do another joust-ish set...? Nice tent designs though.

What would you like for the next Castle line?
Hive replied to Robert8's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
A re-design of some classic factions such as Forestmen, Black Falcons, Crusaders, Wolfpack, etc. -
I agree with this. Same style as 2009? Brilliant! Though the comparisons to Castle 2013 does put me off a great deal... I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Great stuff, really takes me back...

Splendid scene! Takes me back.

Beautiful! And good use of Hobbit torsos.

The figures and shields were a huuuuuuge step backwards though, and the colouring wasn't quite as good either.

A few days ago, I stumbled across this classic interview again: http://www.classic-castle.com/sets/articles/designerfeedback07.html ...and it made me wonder: why aren't we seeing more of this? I think it offers unique and deeply fascinating insight into our favourite themes, and would personally love to see more of this. Are there any other such interviews? And would it be possible to see this done again?

I sadly still lack Shipwreck Hideout, but have the rest of the sets pictured. It was a short but good theme where I actually liked every single set in the theme (which doesn't happen often). Lots of variety, good figures, interesting parts and great colours. If the 2015 wave is anything like this, I'll be a happy AFOL.

I like it! Impressive how much detail you managed to get in such a relatively small space.

[MOD] Black Knight's Castle - Fortified With Moat, Stable
Hive replied to Vorkosigan's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Nice mod! This castle is indeed a great classic, the unusual colourscheme of mostly black topped with grey is so iconic and snappy looking. And I've always loved those raised baseplates. -
Yeah, I can imagine. Here, we're lucky if we can find a sale where we can get LEGO at a price that's similar to the American retail price... *sigh*
-
Yes, I know. But when I linked to the thread, that fact was not yet known.
-
Man, you Americans get clearance LEGO at the most crazy prices. I'm insanely jealous!
