Why to we feel the need to modify?
__________________________ replied to __________________________'s topic in Community
I am autistic as well!My spatial reasoning skills are average- and that is after 17 years of the hobby. Do you see Lego as a way to improve remedial visual-spatial skills? No offense intended here at all. -
Thank you, I have been researching the Dakar truck, your excellent model inspired me to stop procrastinating!

Say another builder posts an LXF, I always feel the need to modify it, change the colors, add something. Do others feel this? Is there anyone who is an psychology who knows more about the why this of?

I was looking at pictures, and I think you exaggerated the number of pillars the canopy spans over: there is only a need for 3, not 4. I also used axles instead of axles + connectors on the front cover to enforce that this represents cross bars rather than a fundamental part of the vehicle. Here is the new LXF: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B7ClftNJdh9_Zm1kb1o1ZHpTZUU

Ah how did I miss that about servo I might give this a second thought, it deserves the attention. With such a short wheelbase and massive wheels, the entry and exit angles are nearly 90 degrees, making this perfect for descending/ascending hills (assuming it doesn't flip over). EDIT: I reworked the color scheme a bit, redid the body connected to the servo, added some more lights, and changed the back bar: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B7ClftNJdh9_bW45Vl9TYkhVQkU

Redesigned with new color scheme, removed the mudguards for a solution using only common pieces, added lights up top, and gave it Power Puller wheels: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B7ClftNJdh9_bW45Vl9TYkhVQkU

Hey I added a rotating door on the side and I am adding a second roll cage, recoloring, and adding a second set of lights. I also removed the buggy motor since I will be replacing it with a third-party RC solution for higher speed and lower cost. https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B7ClftNJdh9_U1VsWVQ5NDh0Nmc

I can imagine how it would be weaker picking it up from the top. However you can always pick it up from the bottom which is more robust. And this will look bettter.I am also interested in the canopy, I could make a fabric tent

This is a good example of showing how my version is a bit more accurate in the grille, though a fully system build should be far more realistic: https://www.bing.com/images/search?q=dakar+truck&view=detailv2&id=64BD6C65570104DA7C06F1676F2179DADCCE8451&selectedindex=21&ccid=IW6fb%2BPX&simid=608033096519647425&thid=OIP.M216e9f6fe3d758784923285919e46443o0&first=1

I made some cosmetic modifications including more accurate A pillars (based on looking at a few Dakar trucks), slightly different color scheme, and different grille. I made some cosmetic modifications including more accurate A pillars (based on looking at a few Dakar trucks), slightly different color scheme, and different grille. I might do a lights system, time permitting. https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B7ClftNJdh9_Snp4a01UeWpsLTQ (this is the new lxf) Impressive!I might build a modified version of this truck though see below, I just took apart 42009 EDIT: Not sure why that posted twice. BUT, I was wondering, you could strengthen the roof structure in the case of rollovers, maybe increase chassis performance at sub-rollover speeds while cornering, by using my design.

Excellent build and video. I saw in the video you had a second truck. It would have been a more impressive video if you put the video camera on this truck for part of the race. To do this, I would remove all cosmetic features from the "camera truck" and use stiffer springs or a second set of springs to adjust for the increase in weight. Hi, I have an idea inspired by online communities such as Reddit. They will usually have threads for people who have a quick question and don't want to make a whole new post b/c this looks like spamming very quickly. "Ask someone who is good at x!" You may say. But if you are new to the community you won't know who to PM! This thread is intended for anyone who wants to donate their services, perhaps for the good of humanity or for something in exchange- preferably another favor rather than bricks or money, since the community should help itself imo For example: if someone doesn't have a computer, they could ask someone to edit their video about their new MOC in exchange for helping them pore over a technical problem to make the other person's MOC better.
