Trains are very regional. It could be difficult to come up a specific prototype that can please a global wide audience. Ideally, they would make different train sets for different markets but that's probably not going to happen with the one size fits all business model. CITY trains are starter sets, basically to provide a base for the kids to build upon at an affordable price. As a building toy, CITY trains can be disassembled and rebuilt into something else the kids imagine and to develop that skill of being able to visualize it and build it. I am ok for train motors. I ran out of spare IR receivers. I should get a couple just in case. Thanks.

Neat, will you be building a permanent outdoor track layout? LGB track is expensive. I wonder if hand laying your own track would be cheaper?

AFOL with Spouses not into Lego, what's your agreement?
dr_spock replied to FatherOf2Boys's topic in General LEGO Discussion
The agreement is I stay within my small corner in the basement. I don't have much room for display. But I joined a LUG. My builds are displayed at their events. The rest of the time they are stored away in boxes in my corner between events. -
Welcome aboard, Harrilal. Which part of Canada are you from?

Great idea! I have an extra door sitting in storage. My spouse has been bugging to get her folding tables back...

Even back in the good old days of train doors, you still had to open the roof to move your minifigs into and out of their seats. It's double VIP points here in North America, get more PF stuff now or hold off and see what the new BT PF has in store?

Welcome aboard, Gwalothel. LEGO and university is a good mix. I bought my first set in university.

I look at pictures on RailPictures.net. I try to do my own thing and make toy versions of prototypes that catch my interest.- 87 replies

dr_spock replied to Bregir's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Aye. dr_spock has the right to organize the next championship. The previous time frame worked just fine so we'll stay with that. -
Thank you all very much. Building and learning to use a CNC machine is fun. It can be useful in making prize for the next soccer (football) championship in BoBS. Let's Make a Trophy by dr_spock_888, on Flickr

Do you have a name or a link for the horn? I could try to make that sound with my trumpet.

[SR][FB] The Prio Ship Palmetto
dr_spock replied to Roadmonkeytj's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Nice job on the ship. Her sails look good. Were the sails hand painted with a kid in each hand? -
Welcome to Eurobricks, Yves. Nice job on that Snowcat. Looks like the plows on Montreal sidewalks.

Three automated level crossings in a row...
dr_spock replied to AlmightyArjen's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Cool. A fun mod could be to make the speed of the barrier arm proportional to the speed of the approaching train.- 11 replies

You can do that now with a heat-gun to soften and melt LEGO parts. With PLA you can use the low heat setting on the gun.
