New to Power Factor trains, what should I buy to get started?
dr_spock replied to John Hill's topic in LEGO Train Tech
This is what comes with the off the shelf LEGO CITY starter train sets. It's the minimum Power Functions you need and the easiest to get going. -
Nice banana boat. The sail could probably use a couple of lines to secure it from flapping in the wind.

What is a good starter trainset to kitbash bluetooth RC?
dr_spock replied to BlueRailTrains's topic in LEGO Train Tech
There are several generations of LEGO trains with power over metal rails operating at 4.5V, 12V and 9V like model railroad. Those are out of production. Most AFOL fans are still running 9V trains at events. You would have to shop the used market for them on Bricklink.com or eBay. You'll have to do some hacking to disconnect the power pickup from the motor and route through your device and back to the motor. The current generation runs off 9V battery packs with IR remote controlling 9V train motors running on unpowered plastic rails. The current basic starter set to just to run around would be the High Speed Train. It comes with everything you need to get up and running. http://shop.lego.com...Listing=listing -
[ESL-FB1] Please don't take it apart

Nice build. It looks fun to play with a cargo ship unloading or a pirate ship shooting at it. With a mischievous monkey around, it is plausible to have yellow sand. There is a saying here, "Don't eat the yellow snow." In this case, the yellowed sand.- 21 replies

There is a penalty for owning too many ships. If you add a ship to your fleet and it puts you in the penalty range, then you are charged the respective penalty fee, regardless how the ship was obtained. You can also unlicense one to bring your number back down no penalty range. On joint owned ships, the ship count will be towards whoever is listed as the main owner. There is no penalty for owning 1 - 3 licensed ships, but after that, the cost of the a vessel goes up depending on how many other vessels you have. The current maximum of licensed vessels one person can have is 12. You can always Un-license of vessel to gain a spot back, but remember, if you want to use that vessel again you will have to buy a new license.

1) It doesn't have to be your sigfig. Every settlement has a mayor. A builder can only be the mayor of one city, even if they have multiple characters - they can only collect one salary. The mayor is paid every month according to the size of the settlement. Larger settlements have civil servant positions that are also paid. A builder can control up to 5 civil servants, but each position must have a different character attributed to it, and a mayor cannot be a civil servant at the same time. 2) Yes, you can license a larger build for a smaller license but not the other way around. I did that for my 16x32 factory. I didn't feel it was big enough for 32x32 medium and licensed it for the free first small (16x16).

Shiver me timbers, it was working a couple of days ago. I saw data from March 4th. I think the accepting responses has been turned off. We'll have to wait for Ska.

In the back end where the form data goes, there is a date and time timestamp field which shows when the form was submitted. What kind of feedback from the forms are you looking for from the forms?

Very nice diorama.

Great job on the carriages. What device did he use to print the windows on the clear panels?

Timer is good if you want to run the train for a certain amount of time and where it stops is no concern. You can use sensors if the train has to stop at the same spot or change directions or the speed could vary based on the charge remaining in the batteries of Power Function trains.

What type of train do you plan to run? Is it Power Functions? 9 volts? 4.5 volts? How big is the track? Do you want purist LEGO solution? Is it ok to have non-LEGO solution?

Challenge II - Defending Yer Claims! [RESULTS POSTED]
dr_spock replied to SkaForHire's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
It should be ok if you haven't MOC and posted it before as a free build. Do take note that there is a 32 stud at the water line ship length size limit for the Challenge. From the posted rules: Special: If you are building a ship for this challenge, you can license it in the EGS, but since it is for the challenge, no DBs can be earned for a free build. The same goes with any properties that you build for either challenge I or II, you may license them, but they cannot earn freebuild DBs.- 92 replies

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 15 Rumors and Discussion
dr_spock replied to Robert8's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Sounds like you're probably better ordering predetermined ones from Bricklink for a $1 or $2 more. Online blind can be hit or miss. One time I got three of the same out of an online order of six. You can always phone ahead to your local LEGO store and ask if they have any in stock and how many before committing to the drive. -
BB-8 is cool. I would love to have one but looking at the photos...I see old fashioned magnets. LEGO has done away with that style of magnet used in the BB-8 since 2009(?). They can be a safety and liability concern. There have been cases other toy companies being sued over children swallowing small magnets. Swallowing more than one can cause pinching of the bowel walls. That could cause a blockage or tearing of the walls which can potentially be deadly. Surgery is needed to remove.

Nothing too specific. Loosely based off pictures I can find on Google images for the 1100-1200 A.D. Thank you. I would love to put a propane fork lift outside but it is not age appropriate. Thank you. Thank you for the 5 DB. Susieh appreciates the kind gesture.

. I am not sure his jeans are a good combination with that pin striped jacket and vest. -
I have a hard plastic frame organizer with hard plastic drawers. The drawers don't stick like soft plastic drawers in plastic frame. I don't close the soft plastic drawers all the way into the "click" point. It is easier to pull out without the hard pull spilling contents. The soft plastic ones are cheaper and leaving more $$$ for buying LEGO.

I made a simple camera dolly out of Technic to film a MOC. It has a turntable for compound panning shots. The point and shoot camera is held in place by Technic shock absorbers and rubber double axle flexible connectors. It can be MOD to hold a cell phone too. Simple Camera Dolly v2.0 by dr_spock_888, on Flickr I did a test run on carpet. As you can see, I didn't contract a professional dolly grip to operate it. Hopefully, the union won't get too upset with me.
