Love it! From conception to execution, it's brilliant!

Well, boo to Megablocks, but if your 1-year-old actually built that himself you have a prodigy on your hands. The ship is very well done, given the materials (and scale) available!

What you most likely want to use is the Wanted List feature on Bricklink (or possibly the 3rd party tool (Bricklink Helper) located here which can help compare store inventories and find as many parts in as few orders as possible, though I don't know how current it is as far as recent development). The trick is adding parts to your Wanted List so that you can then use it or another tool to find shops that have all of what you need. If you got the inventory online and it's in a compatible format, just upload it directly to your wanted list. If you have the model in LDD/LDraw or a compatible parts list, you can use something like BrickUtils to then convert that parts list into a Bricklink-friendly format to add to the Wanted List. If you just have a textual list of parts, you'll need to either manually enter them all into a Wanted List or get the MOC into LDD or something and go from there. Hope that helps at least point you in the right direction!

Welcome to EB, Booklovingbuilder! I was always partial to the Freshmen's blacksmith shop on the river from that Ideas Book. If you want to build truly classic-style castles like those show in that book, probably your best bet is to just look for the bulk wall sections and other grey parts on Bricklink or eBay and go from there. If you're going for something more modern like Migalart's "Playable Castle" that you commented on, that's just a big bulk order of grey bricks and plenty of imagination! (And some other accessories, but still a bulk purchase with plenty of greys, blacks, and browns is a good place to start.) Of course, you could also build some stuff virtually in LDRAW or LDD (maybe even "build" some of the old classic castle sets along with some newer ones from the instructions available online to get some experience with different techniques) until you've got something you'd like to build from real bricks, then export the parts list and place an order! Happy building!

Same here- most of the time I'm invoiced by the next day (depending on time of day the order was placed on both ends) and then shipped the next, barring weekends or holidays. There have been a few where the time from purchase to shipment was about a week total. Never had anything disappear, but as rockethead26 said, it does sometimes require unexpected patience.

Help operating LDraw
deraven replied to monkeyjay2003's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
That's an awfully broad question there. To answer in a similarly broad way: install LDRAW and open the program. Pick a piece you want to build with and drag it into the building area. Repeat for additional pieces. Probably the best place to start is with one of the many tutorials that are out there. If you're having challenges with installation, I'd suggest starting here: http://www.ldraw.org/help/getting-started.html Once you've got it installed, check out this tutorial that starts from the very basics and takes you through building a very small model to demonstrate the tools and techniques to get you going: http://www.holly-wood.it/mlcad/basic1-en.html Happy (virtual) building! -
This gave me a nice chuckle- thanks! Love the "discovery" of the flat variety, and the truck is obnoxiously wonderful!

Lovey- very well said. Lego warms my heart as well! Welcome to EB, Alex!

Whoa. Great alien landscape, and the part usage on those dino heads is spectacular! I believe I love everything about this. Bravo.

Al's Stars 'N' Stripes Grill - my first moc modular buildi
deraven replied to craigslegostuff's topic in LEGO Town
If I'm being honest, I don't love the facade (a bit too much grey/monotone for me), but the shape itself, the layout, and the interior details are great. Very nice! ... especially for your first go at a modular MOC. Looking forward to seeing you next one! -
Nice rendition. I really like the way you've done the cargo area that makes it look good in flight and still functional.

Wow- love it! The layers to detail are fantastic. The pallets on deck are great, and the air hoses attaching the crew gives it both an old 18th century feel as well as retro-future vibe. Very nice all around!

Welcome to EB, Chris! Wait! Don't get rid of any sets- you'll need those parts!!

The whole build is great! I really like the 2nd floor with the bar and band, and the covert poker game is lovely as well! The only piece of constructive criticism I can muster is that it could use some clever signage of some sort outside and/or window signage so it looks more like a pizza business at a glance. Really fantastic all-around!

Really beautiful! NPU on the front, and nice display stand. Well done.

Tandem Bricks brand. From what I've seen, they feel OK but fit pretty poorly. "Enjoy" your gallon of 'em!

Great overall, and I just love the minifigs under the covers in the beds!

Love the horse and that cactus! Though I was really hoping the Pombe would jump onto the horse, and then the horse would somehow combine itself into the mech!

Nice vehicle... and very nice use of Professor Frink's body. Looks great with her hair & pants matching!

Er, yes, I have a decent pile of CA bricks, and they're mostly fine. Some feel a little brittle or look a bit old, but they work OK. Some have unreasonably high clutch power (probably due to some shrinkage), and a few are definitely warped a bit, but nothing like "shrunk and warped beyond recognition" (though I have seen examples of that) - so while the CA bricks are certainly more prone to some warping than ABS, there must be some environment/storage factors at play as well. Regardless, the switch to ABS was a good thing for a number of reasons, including it's stability vs CA. I'm also confident that whatever new method they find to make ABS or whatever new material they use will be up to their standards. Perhaps they can even find something that has most of the qualities but is just the tiniest bit more flexible than ABS so we don't continue to have this issue with hairline cracks even on new pieces, or maybe it'll be something that can be colored more consistently. There are definitely areas of improvement to be had over the current state of their ABS production, so who knows!

The R&D lab has been going for over 50 years now, and the plastic was changed once before already. Cellulose Acetate bricks from the 50's, 60's and 70's work fine with today's ABS bricks and nobody seems to know the difference even if you ask (and what little difference there is I think is generally chalked up to them just being "old"). Given that they already have one such change under their belts and are investing a substantial sum of money (it's 1B DKK ~= $150M USD) in materials research, I'm pretty confident that they understand the importance of doing it the right way. The real question is what kind of materials they'll be able to come up with!

Everything about that is just wonderful. Especially great posing on the Sentinels. ...Oh how I wish that Nightcrawler was an official minifig!

The ship is lovely... and the dust clouds are incredible! As Missing Brick said, NPU on the croissants!
-
Incredible! Would love to see how those flex tubes hold up under real gravity.

Man, every single detail is so nicely put together! And your photography is wonderful, and combined with the builds themselves it really gives it a fantastic feel of grand scale. I'd love to give some constructive criticism, but I'm having a hard time finding anything that's not to like!
