  1. Location: E02 - Jurin II Tags: Military, Land Vehicle, Spying. M.A.N.T.I.S Special Forces log: Myra Dynarski 27 Junali 3815, Jurin II Previous entry Having intercepted Octan communications about "Undead Artichokes", M.A.N.T.I.S. scientists began work on a top-secret project. Unfortunately, someone must have confused artichokes with chayotes. They're both green, alright? Even more unfortunately, Octan must have heard about this, and sent spies to sabotage the project. One managed to release the prototype before he was killed. I got called in to contain the creature before it could escape into the jungle.
  2. Location: A06 - Guinevere Tags: Military, Piracy, Land Vehicle. M.A.N.T.I.S Special Forces log: Myra Dynarski 21 Junali 3815, M.A.N.T.I.S. supply camp on Guinivere. Previous entry I'd been feeling nauseous, so I stopped by one of the supply depots for some meds, only to find a bunch of Octan and Kawashita agents sitting around chatting like they were at a tea party, rather than in the camp of their sworn enemies (or at least business competitors)! I don't think they were even armed - at least they didn't put up a fight. They all escaped in vehicles, and I was unable to keep up. I did manage to steal [Redacted - All M.A.N.T.I.S. operations are 100% legal] liberate their leftover drinks.
  3. Location: A04-Mynderis Tags: Building, Vehicle Job: Explorer My next assignment for M.A.N.T.I.S. was a hot one. They wanted me to get some lava samples from Mynderis for them to analyze. I wasn't too enthused by the idea, until I was told I would get to use the MES (Mini Exo-Suit), which was too good an offer to refuse. I took the samples next to a recently constructed Awesomnium mining base, which was in full swing. More pictures here: Link C&C welcome
  4. Location: Lesser Drigo, F02 Tags: Vehicle, Piracy Job: Driver Start Log: For once I had two missions in a row on the same planet, though this time I got to use the MW-4 Mech to do some underwater pilfering. The MTD's that Double D had snuck into Octan's water purification plant had given us the location of several other Octan water filtering devices. It was an easy matter to access some of the shallower locations, and then use my mech's powerful arm to grab some Octan machinery. I'm sure our scientists will enjoy tinkering with it, and when they're done, MANTIS will have a pre built water purifying system. The MW-4 mech features moving legs, a working claw and missile launcher. It was fun using a bunch of assorted parts in 4 different blues for the landscape. C&C welcome
  5. Tags: Land Vehicle MANTIS A06 Open Log Number Whatever: Captain Pangolinus of The M.A.N.T.I.S. fleet recording. I've been sent down to Guinevere to find the Kawashita listening post that has been spying on fleet operations. There appears to be a red object lying in the sands ahead. The object appears to be alive.... Slowing down to check it out..... #$@^ THESE LAND VEHICLES AND BRAKES! I'M A PILOT FOR A REASON! CRUNCH! AAh.... I suppose i should get this fixed and go back and have a look. It won't slow down still! Got it! Backing up to see what that was. Oh. Guess that Kawashita guy had it coming though. Pangolinus out. End Recording Another weekly build for me. C&C appreciated!
  6. Activity- Exploration. Location- A05 Yallorn II Previously, Mark of Orion had helped in the occupation of Barnius and was disgruntled with his task of constructing a "very complex" sensor array... After complaining explaining to his superior officer, Second Branch Executive Ninja Nin, that he was more interested in exploring than assembling equipment, Mark was given a different mission on MANTIS' next target, Yallorn II. Mark was very pleased with the change of position, now he was free to wander around and explore an entirely new planet! Yallorn II was a particularly interesting place. Mark had decided to explore the southern sector along the coast. To his surprise, the normal earth tones of the soil gave way to mud of a deep blue color with small plateaus of clay on which vegetation abounded. Mark deduced that the tide was out, and the foliage in this vicinity was not capable of growing below the waterline. Mark's peaceful walk was interrupted by by his radio ringtone... "Mark here, what's up?" "Hey Mark, this is John." "Hey John! How's the view in your sector?" "Pretty good, But that's not why I'm calling..." "Oh?" "Yeah, my scanner says my area is clear, but that there is some unidentified lifeform activity near you. See anything?" Mark took a quick look around. "I don't see anything near, maybe there's something underground... I can see there being clams or something in this mud?" "Heh, probably nothing serious, just thought I'd call and check." "All right, much appreciated, John!" "Okay, see ya later!" "Later! Bye!" (Click) After hanging up with his co-worker, Mark reflected on the dangers of being too absorbed in the scenery. "Hmm, I should check my scanner more often, something big and ugly could creep up on me without me even knowing!" "The planet description did say "moderate alien activity" and..." The Ghastly Galloping Garctaloid of Yallorn II ! by Mark E., on Flickr Suddenly, Mark looked over his shoulder and realized that a huge alien had snuck up behind him!! "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHH!!!!" The ferocious alien bellowed and screeched as it galloped towards Mark! "GROGGLAAK!! SKREEEHHKK!! GROGGHLAAKK!!" Mark wasn't about to let himself get gobbled up! He quickly raised his MANTIS death ray blaster and fired into the belly of the beast! The enormous creature screeched out ten times louder than before! But the MANTIS death ray blaster is quite effective on most fleshly beings... The monster collapsed into a pile of squirming dismembered tentacles as it's gnashing mouth slowly stopped chomping in rage. Mark, in a rush of adrenaline and exuberance, dashed towards the dying creature and grabbed one of the limb-like tentacles. "What a monstrous brute! You could've been so useful to MANTIS! To bad there's no stun setting on my death ray blaster..." Mark, still clutching the limb, turned and continued on his exploration. "But all is not lost! I'm sure Big Sal or one of our other scientists will be able to concoct something absolutely terrifying with your DNA sample!" Yes, Mark was beginning to enjoy this exciting job! To Be Continued!
  7. Location: A06-Guinevere Tags: Vehicle, Building Job: Driver Start Log: I wasn't surprised to be stationed on A06, after MANTIS' successful infiltration of the planet, I knew that drivers would be needed to help gather gold. Some MANTIS engineers had quickly erected processing plants to separate the gold from rock. My task was to use the T-7 dumptruck to haul loads of gold to transport ships that then delivered it back to MANTIS headquarters. This mission I even had a co-pilot, Massi Editoro, who would man the truck's cannon in case of attack. MANTIS didn't take any chances when hauling gold, even dumptrucks received serious firepower. All in all, a pretty fun job, but the desert heat seemed to mess with my stomach... T-7 Dumptruck: Maintenance rover: The processing plant and dump truck actually work!
  8. Excerpt from the logs of Captain Carter: Date: 19 Junali 3815 Time: 0906 hours Location: En route to Terrial Major Comments: The pilots tell me we'll arrive at Terrial Major in approximately 2 hours. Our mission is to map the surface since no one has been here since the first Gate explorers. As usual, their description of the planet is brief: "A massive, freezing planet. The entire planet is basically a ball of frozen pure water. Vicious local wildlife." --- Time: 1138 hours Location: Skies of Terrial Major Comments: Well, the description was accurate, save for the fact that there doesn't seem to be any wildlife at all, let alone anything dangerous. There's just vast, almost entirely featureless snow, as far as the eye can see. The tedious landscape is doing nothing to distract me from the stomach troubles that have been plaguing me all week. --- Time: 1443 hours Location: Skies of Terrial Major Comments: Just as I was about to order to crew out of the atmosphere, having seen nothing but snow for hours, we spotted a small patch of tan on the horizon along with a thin line of blue. At last, something that wasn't white! As we approached the tan resolved itself into a small forest of sickly looking trees, around 10 metres tall. The blue line was in fact a crevasse with liquid water at the bottom! I suspect the presence of the trees near liquid water is no coincidence, though how they can gain any benefit from it is beyond me - the crevasse must be at least 30 metres deep. On even closer approach we finally spotted the wildlife. Camouflaged in white, two titanic reptilian creatures engaged in a territorial battle! The early explorers were right to call them vicious, but I'm amazed they didn't mention the sheer size of the creatures - they tower over the nearby trees! These creatures definitely warrant further study, and could make a valuable asset for the glory of MANTIS! Excerpt ends. I have to congratulate the judges for this competition - it was a great stimulus for me to build outside of my comfort zone. Comments and criticism of the result welcome! More pics in the spoiler:
  9. Open Log: This is Pangolinus. I've been assigned to deliver a hazmat unit to Big Sal's laboratory. Agent Myra Dynarski reportedly made a large mess there. Approaching the target. Analyzing environment.... safe to land. Landing now. Switching to multi voice recording. Computer: Beginning Unload. Cleanup Crew Guy: That was a stuffy ride. Robo Guard: HALT! Robo: State your business. Guy: Cleanup. Why do you have one arm? Robo: I'm unfinished. You have clearance. Captain Pangolinus you may take off. Cleanup Agent you may enter the lab. Guy: What the?! Myra!
  10. Location: A05 - Yallorn II. Tags: Military, Piracy, Building. M.A.N.T.I.S Special Forces log: Myra Dynarski 14 Junali 3815, Yallorn II. Previous entry An Octan spy infiltrated one of our compounds in order to steal our precious larvae! Whether this was done in an attempt to demoralise our brave forces, to discover the source of our strength and good looks, or simply because they like the taste is unknown. Enemy spy neutralised, no opportunity for interrogation, larvae recovered. Possible connection to issues encountered by expedition MRV1B04? They stole it from us! Sneaky little Octanses. Must have the precious! Image of the whole build:
  11. Excerpt from the lab book of Big Sal: Date: 14 Junali 3815. Experiment Code: L3A05. Lead Scientist: Big Sal. Laboratory: Yallorn II, Laboratory Outpost 3. Aim: Analyse items obtained by field agents. Excerpt ends. Ah, it’s good to be back in the lab. I can’t believe how long it took to analyse all of Lafevre’s seaweed samples after she inconsiderately got herself killed. I’ll be happy if I never see another plant for the rest of my life. Right, let’s see if I can figure out this… thing… that Arariel stole from Kawashita. At times like these, delicate scientific technique is called for. This thing is useless! I bet Arariel just swiped the first ornament he saw from the public lobby of that museum then came back and made up some story about his amazing infiltration skills. Maybe I’ll have more luck with the tentacle from the creature Mark of Orion encountered here. Can’t be bothered with DNA analysis, I’ll just inject some awesomnium extract and see what happens… … … … Ugh, looks like it’s just going to be one of those days when nothing works. Excerpt from the lab book of Big Sal: Method: Conducted highly scientific analysis of object K-5654 and Yallorn II xenos sample. Results: Detailed analysis of both items revealed nothing of use to M.A.N.T.I.S. Conclusions: None. Safety Report: None. Excerpt ends. Was that a ship landing outside? Best go check it out. Alright mate, got a delivery for Big Sal. That’s me. Nice one pal, I’ve been all over the place trying to deliver this. Sign here please. Righto. What have you got for me? What the hell?? What's with all the plants?! Long story mate. They were meant to go to Dr Lefevre on Barnius, but when I showed up there it turned out she was dead. So I look at the personnel files and the next most qualified botanist is Dr Johnson on Linopeia III. Would you believe it, I turn up there and he’s dead too! Never knew plants were so dangerous, heh heh. Anyway, I figured I’d just bring them to the ranking scientist to deal with, and that’s you. But I hate plants! Take them to Dr Arkov! Nah pal, you signed for ‘em, see? Not my problem any more. But… but… See ya! Didn't have time to do everything I wanted with the story, but oh well. I tried to include as much stuff from other M.A.N.T.I.S. builds as I could. Comments and criticism welcome! More pics, including proof that the lab is inside the building, in the spoiler.
  12. Location: F02, Lesser Drigo Tags: Spying *This week is PAB week, see note at the end!* After Scorpio's failed attempt at escape the previous week, he had tried a number of other things, each of them ending in similar failure. The time came for him to be transferred from Lesser Drigo. Where to? He wasn't sure. Over the sound of more kicking and grumbling, he had heard Dr. Long again in the laundry room, but only learned a few details of the reason for his transfer: he was supposed to meet someone very important, somewhere, and after that Octan would decide his fate. Probably, they would send him somewhere to interrogate him, and then barter with M.A.N.T.I.S. for a prisoner exchange or something. Or he would be executed. Guards escorted him onto a small modified transport ship, once again in chains, and secured him on board. From his position, he could see the pilot on board, and was alarmed to see that it was the woman with the scar--the one who had caught him weeks ago. Scorpio had been looking for a new chance to escape; he knew if they went toward their projected destination, he would still be in Octan custody. However, if he could change their course somewhere else, his fate might be different. The gate opening up The ship was sealed, began its ascent from the planet's surface, and headed toward the gate site in the atmosphere. The ship moved into position, and the woman activated the portal system to open the gate. At once the ship began to experience very heavy turbulence, and everything began shaking uncontrollably. "Hold steady, you bucket of bolts!" the pilot said to herself. "Almost there!" The shaking became so violent that the post Scorpio had been chained to started coming loose from its position. Trying to steady himself, he put all his weight behind the post and lunged--it wrenched free! sending him spiraling into the cabin. "What the!? Get down!" the woman shouted, turning her attention from the gate to Scorpio. The gate began to quiver and change color, and the ship shook even more. This was the moment Scorpio had waited for--stumbling forward, he pushed down on the controls. The little craft surged down and forward, headed toward the unstable gate. The ship diving into the gate "What have you done?!" He heard the woman shouting. The ship was coming apart at the seams: alarms were sounding, lights flashing, and then the gravity stabilizers stopped working, sending both Scorpio and the woman into freefall as the ship hurtled into the unknown... More pics The ship on its own View of the Gate Behind the scenes ******** This week's build is...unique, let's say. I still wanted to contribute this week, but I am in the middle of moving, so my entire collection is packed away in boxes, except for what I picked up at my local store this week--two PAB cups, the July GWP, and a clearance-priced Mixel I threw in to qualify for the GWP. So, everything you see here is from that! I discovered that while the PAB's current selection of green parts is really great , it is hard to work with exclusively (although I am proud of how the Gate turned out!), not to mention that I wasn’t able to do any decent editing on the photos (not that my editing could normally be called “decent” ) Can't wait until this move is over... As a result, I wasn’t able to build out as much of the story as I wanted to, like the ship interior or Scorpio's latest attempt at a daring escape. He really isn't that great of a spy, no matter how hard he tries.
  13. Tags: M.A.N.T.I.S. Land Vehicle Aeristus Open Audio/Visual Log: This is Pangolinus. For the past several weeks the alliance between Kawshita and Octan has become obvious. Therefore I have been sent to deal with them at a diplomatic meeting. There's a few Kawshita Guards. Makes some sense because its there facility, but kind of pretentious for a planet they haven't dominated yet. One Octan Rep has been spotted enjoying his Chicken. The Kawashita Rep is enjoying his chicken.....As well as some of the more exotic pleasures of life. Time for me to make my entrance. I wonder why they didn't put a roof on this thing yet.... Anyway. TIME TO DEAL WITH THESE DIRTY @#$%*%& SCUMBAGS! *SMASH* *CRASH* *Machine Gun Fire* *Snapping Bones* Who's Next? Cone on out Octan and Kawshita! I've got your woman and your dead guards! Octan: You assured me this planet was safe! Now save your woman Honorably like your little code dictates and get me out of here! Kawshita: I....I Don't know how. Bug got your tongue? Too late. *RIIIIIIIIIIIP* Exotic Woman: AIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIE!!!!!!!!!!! NOW for the rest of you! Aw crap there goes my mic. Now I won't have audio for their deaths. Octan: We will be worth a ransom! Your corporation can pay a ransom for remains just as well. Mission Complete. C&C Welcome! The mech by itself.
  14. -O, pardon me, thou bleeding piece of earth, That I am meek and gentle with these butchers! Thou art the ruins of the noblest man That ever lived in the tide of times. Woe to the hand that shed this costly blood! Over thy wounds now do I prophesy,-- Which, like dumb mouths, do ope their ruby lips, To beg the voice and utterance of my tongue-- A curse shall light upon the limbs of men; Domestic fury and fierce civil strife Shall cumber all the parts of Italy; Blood and destruction shall be so in use And dreadful objects so familiar That mothers shall but smile when they behold Their infants quarter'd with the hands of war; All pity choked with custom of fell deeds: And Caesar's spirit, ranging for revenge, With Ate by his side come hot from hell, Shall in these confines with a monarch's voice Cry 'Havoc,' and let slip the dogs of war; That this foul deed shall smell above the earth With carrion men, groaning for burial.- (Credit goes to Shakespeare) I've hidden a bunch of players in here, both M.A.N.T.I.S. & Kawashita, and have taken pictures of them all on my flickr, as well as daytime shots. Check them out if you can't spot them here. Sorry if you're not featured, I don't have a many fig parts as I'd like. C&C most welcome.
  15. Location: Planet Mynderis, Sector A04 Tags: Spaceship Log_M_5: After having been lectured on what I'm supposed to do in the M.A.N.T.I.S. corporation, I went to scan the skies above the skies of Mynderis... i.e. Got to fly in space! Not long afterwards, my radar picked up an enemy ship. Knowing Kawashita was beginning to send spies to this planet, I went after this craft. Upon noticing me on his radar, he flew into some asteroid fields near the planet in hopes of escaping the grasp of M.A.N.T.I.S. Little did he know I was an expert spacecraft flyer........ 16. Private Gnarl Graves had been deployed on the grassy world of Aeristus. He was tasked with some of the typical grunt work that befell him, such as standing guard, shooting Big Sal's rampant toxic lab rats, cleaning out the blasters, etc. While occupied by such a task, Gnarl Graves heard a rustling in the grasses. An unexpected noise could only mean one thing... an imminent attack! Gnarl swiftly leapt into action, drawing his sword at the surprised Kawashita agent! He likely suspected he could sneak up on the heavily armored Private... but he was wrong! The two armed combatants stared intensely at eachother, each waiting cobra-like for the perfect chance to strike. Needless to say... an epic sword fight ensued! https://fbcdn-sphotos-h-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-xpf1/v/t35.0-12/11023524_10206824639711887_5866059681834539508_o.jpg?oh=c51f241a174ac7388e4fe9efe05b7bba&oe=55A62AFA&__gda__=1436952789_173c663d05253b3630d0835deea6001d https://fbcdn-sphotos-h-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-xft1/v/t35.0-12/11411669_10206824833796739_2927581173304537649_o.jpg?oh=d86fe0d1c35ac9f77250fa94212f27b2&oe=55A547B1&__gda__=1436876873_2f8bf5512d5d79f928ffe5f8f0538962 Made this while messing around with some pick a brick parts. 17. Location: F02 - Lesser Drigo Tags: MANTIS, Spying AG: Octan Games by David FNJ, on Flickr Double D's log 8: Several days after being sent on our next mission from the MANTIS LD HQ[/ul], we emerged from a large crack in the ground much like the one I was in during my Waterbug mission. Of course we had already bypassed any heavy security that patrolled the boarders so all we needed was a way inside the building. We spotted something a few hundred meters East that looked interesting, so we went to go see what it was. "Well that's just cheating! Equipping your bot with a shock-pulse gun!" "Well, no one is here to see it, huh? Too bad. Who needs that hunk of junk rolling bot nowadays anyway!" "Fine, wait till I get my bot and THEN we'll see who's got a good fighter. This was just a test round to make sure I'm not going to waste my time with a fight against something too wipmy." "OH?! Is that a challenge?! Haha, I accept! Let's go get this 'champ' of a bot that you claim to got!" "Did you just make a rhyme?" "I don't care. Let's go, Jerry will recycle the parts from the losing bot - if he can find any! Haha!" When we arrived, we found a lone robot that apparently lost to a duel against another one of Octan's robots. It almost looked sad...plus it may have had some nice Octan information or key of some sort, so we decided to fix it. Almost immediately, the bot seemed to take a liking to us! It even changed it's camera light to green rather than the hideous red it had before we had fixed it. After playing around with its electronics for a bit, we found that the bot could enter the complex through a door designed for small robots. It was perfect. We had found a way in without being detected! Looks like we had found a new friend. ~DD out
  18. Location: D02, Barker's Folly Tags: Exploration It's hard not to be impressed by the natural beauty of this asteroid belt, all the awesomnium ripe for the picking doesn't hurt either... 20. Planet: D02, Barker 's Foley Job: Special Forces Private Gnarl Graves scanned the desolate asteroid he had landed on, and pulled out his dented vibrating blade to ward off any potential hostiles he may discover. 21. Open Log: Pangolinus recording. I've entered the Barker's Folly asteroid belt. Awesomium was reported to be in the area. My current location is above an asteroid with what appears to several large caverns. This seems like a good time to test the maneuverability of the new MANTIS F.L.I. (Fast Lightweight Interceptor) Ending the transmission now. Entering the cavern. The F.L.I by itself. C&c appreciated! MANTIS shall dominate the Galaxy!
  22. Now that M.A.N.T.I.S. operatives have begun to be issued with Mk.1 Assault Drones, Myra has sent her old recording probe to search for valuable resources on Hunston. Report: Scans reveal most of the water would need major treatment to be fit for human consumption, and the abundance of potable water on Yallorn makes this logistically unfeasible. No accessible form of awesomium, gold, mithril or copper detected. Large quantities of biomass detected, both in the form of flora growing in the fertile soil around long-dormant volcanoes, and in the form of fauna, particularly the large flying creatures, fittingly decorated with black and green feathers. Some kind of enormous, spiny aquatic creature also observed, though the water has prevented a detailed scan. Conclusion: Biomass present and worth extracting, water present but not worth extracting at this time.
