Well, it's a bit different in that they had specifically forbidden Doctor Who projects (presumably because another toy company had the license for Doctor Who building toys), then just said (at that point in time) that they were now allowing submissions. It wasn't a partnership of any kind that was announced. This is an actual product with (apparently) a new license already attached and, at least to me, it seems odd to set up a license just to produce a single minifig + accessory build. I would expect to see at least a line of CMFs, and probably a few sets otherwise, like I said, why not just use any of the existing witch or villain characters in their existing lines? I guess it could be just that fig (other licenses only have a single set, like BTTF), but I guess we're just hoping for more.

I think that's the main point of this thread- why the heck would TLG go to the trouble of licensing The Wizard of Oz just to make a few minifigs, especially when they have plenty of witches and wizards in their existing lines to choose from? Gotta be a theme (or at least a few decent sets for the anniversary)!

I was just coming to post this very topic! With the Wizard of Oz Ideas set being passed up, as soon as I saw this I couldn't help but think it must be because they already have/had sets in development. Now I'm very curious to see what else may come of it. Any other hints out there…?

My theory: The brick differential

Shooting and Non-Shooting Cannons...What you Have!?
deraven replied to VintageLegoEra's topic in LEGO Pirates
I thought this was a pretty well-known thing. If you're trying to figure out here in the US if someone got a set with shooting cannons that later was distributed with non-shooting versions, I get that, but your survey needs to be changed to reflect that. For instance, grouping 6285 with the Legends re-release 10040 doesn't' make sense as 6285 definitely had shooting cannons at the start of the run and only some of the last production runs would have possibly had non-shooting cannons, but 10040 released in 2002 should have had shooting cannon's again, but mine does not (and my original 6285 does). In most cases, you can use existing lists to be relatively safe about knowing which sets have which type… but only if they're sealed since with loose pieces you never know if a cannon has been substituted! That is most excellent. I'd buy it!

Nice overall, but the dinosaur skeleton is absolutely outstanding!

Wow! The colors are nicely done and a lot of fun. The boat is very nice as well, and NPU on the large half-cones used in the wall. The wake behind the boat is lovely, too. All-around, splendid!

[MOC] Autonomous Caterpillar

Ah, OK. And that is a much simpler way to approach it than where my brain was going. -
[MOC] Autonomous Caterpillar

Very cool! It's quite enjoyable as it is, but I wonder if you could add something in the tail segment that drops down to add friction when it's flopping/pushing forward and pulls up when it's time to rise and bring the tail forward (and potentially vice-versa in the front, though something just on either of the 2 ends would probably increase its crawling efficiency). Like a fixed rubber wheel or the tip of a Technic shooter dart or something. Lovely, clever creation. -
If you're displaying it vertically then double-sided tape won't do the trick and will get messy. What works well, though, is 3M Command Adhesive strips - you can buy packs of just the strips without hooks or anything and they're pretty cheap, and they hold very well and come off the Lego nice and clean. Good luck, and maybe share some pictures of your project when it's done!

I think the context is "do something cool with a bunch of Lego pitchforks"! I must say, that's some awesome parts usage on those... though I do wonder what the underside looks like!

Does dismantling mini figs damage the leg?
deraven replied to PaddyBricksplitter's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Minifig hands, arms, and legs are not designed to be removed. It should (usually) be safe to do so as long as you do it carefully, but even then I wouldn't do it more than a couple times as you do quickly run the risk of the joints getting loose or cracking. -
Hi Webby - welcome to EB! On the sorting, first, if you haven't already seen this classic, you should take a few minutes to read it: The Evolution of Lego Sorting It's really easy to both under- and over-think a sorting system, but the one key piece of advice I'd give is to not start by color. I'd go with General Category/Type, then Specific Piece/Size, then lastly by Color. The rationale is simple: while it's easy to do an initial sort by color, it doesn't really help when you're working with your collection. That is, if I'm looking for a red 2x4, it's a lot easier to find that in a box full of different colored 2x4s than in a big box of red "everything". That's my 2 cents, anyway!

OK… let's mix up the genres a little bit:

But the image gives away half of the title! A lovely turn-of-the-century film, Coffee and Cigarettes.

Yes sir! Your turn again, Tarfful!

Nah, it's all good- lots of different ages, localities, and interests on the board so you never know! Good of you to pop back in with a hint rather than killing the thread! So here's one that's really not a great movie, but when I was 15 or so I quite enjoyed it and it's still a great Marx Brothers homage:

Bees in Paradise is pushing the obscurity level a bit far, Lind Whisperer!
-
Very nicely captured at that scale. Well done!

To be fair, they are wizards! My vote would be for the Lego pirate ships that they released with things like "exploding" cabins an a big rotating canon on deck, but without a ships wheel! That always bugged me.

OK, I resorted to cheating to help revive the thread! It's Andrei Rublev… or I think we're all stumped and have to capitulate!

But there never was a green Futuron fig, just as with the green Classic Space figs with the Exo Suit, so simply the fact that it was green would make it a unique figure with nostalgic value and not a reproduction without going to the trouble of updating it and also printing the back which none of the Futuron figs had. And thus the strangeness of it. I hope it's not just a terribly mean tease as blarghiflargh said!
