Stretching old tire over wrong-size hub...
deraven replied to no7erics's topic in General LEGO Discussion
The short answer is No. Just eyeballing it, the opening of the tire would probably fit into that groove in the hub (but would be under stress because of the thickness of the rubber tapering), but the hub can't be pushed in without damaging the tire. Unless you find some that are a lot more flexible than what I have, but given the age… I don't think it'll work unless you're OK with the tire never being the same again! -
I think pombe captured my thoughts pretty well! The landscape colors work so well together and the design is delightful... and the vehicle made from Power Miners parts is just spectacular. LOVE IT ALL!

Wow! Now that's a proper Avengers Tower! A ton of great details throughout, but I really like Mjolnir hangin' out on the coffee table in the party room (and that whole room looks really nice!).

I like it. For some reason, I especially like that your render of the stage is floating in space. I think you should put the whole thing in a big bubble dome and add some thrusters and make it a rockin' performance art spaceship or something. The hair from "Mr. Good and Evil" works really well on that band member, too!

Welcome aboard, Alskadosis! Your Mixels obsession will be appreciated 'round these parts.

Lovely overall. The curved slopes to widen the hull definitely have a nice look, and for some reason the design of the lantern at the stern caught my eye. Really nice! 10210 surely doesn't have paper sails (mine has the same stiffened cloth as all the other pirate ships they're produced, anyway)- if you got it from an after-market source they may have pulled a fast one on ya!

Nice little build. I too think the wall technique is awesome, and the overall SNOTiness of the base works really well! How stable is that rounded wall? It'd look great on a ship, if it can stand up to some swooshing!

Yes, Wanted List is the way to go. So sorry for that loss, but glad you're still alive and with us to post the question!

I'll throw in my 2 cents here as I've ended up with a hybrid approach that works fairly well. I use mainly Akro Mils stuff, and currently have 10 of the 64-drawer with several of the larger 24-drawer cabinets mixed in, then a bunch of "overstock" storage (including lots of Rubbermaid drawers, bins, and Ziplock bags). Basically the way I've landed with sorting and storage is that I have my parts sorted by specific piece but not by color (except in the few cases where I have a disproportionate amount of a given color of something, usually that was purchased for a specific project), and I fill up an appropriately sized drawer with that element, and once the drawer is filled and I have some left I put the rest of them in a Ziplock baggie of an appropriate size (often more than one when a gallon bag isn't enough, of course), and then all the overstock for the elements in the drawers of a specific cabinet go in a specific bin (or set of bins). This keeps my main building area looking nice, the pieces I need close at hand, and if I'm doing a larger build that needs a lot of a given part, I know that "Oh, I emptied this drawer in Cabinet 3, so I'll grab the bag of overstock out of Bin 3" and go from there. I also like it because I don't have to constantly keep changing the setup because a particular element has now outgrown its drawer(s), and keeps my main sorted storage area from being needlessly huge with tons of large drawers which would likely also have a lot of wasted space for the elements that I'd feel a need to keep in the same area despite not having enough to fill a large drawer, etc.. Thus far it's also, thankfully, saved me from getting pushed into sorting by element and color (since I think a lot of folks do that when an element runs out of space- break it into colors and then at least each color or set of colors still fits in the same size drawers). We'll see...

Oh no! I don't want to be an accessory to murder! But... since Lego does have an official set where they actually instruct you to cut a flextube down to size, I guess at least that part could still be considered Purist.
-
I don't think there's much to it- Looks like it's just a piece of flextube cut to size along with 2 small bits for the ends, and then I'm betting it's a 3L bar on each end that they just slide out from the longer piece of flextube. Probably doesn't work smoothly/easily in practice since I think there'd be a pretty good amount of friction, but I don't think there's any trick to it... other than cutting the flextube with something very sharp like an X-acto knife rather than old dull scissors if you want it to look nice when it's joined up.
-
Wow! I can't believe how great that looks at that scale of "blockiness" - it's clearly Lego, but even without going down to plate or half-brick level on most of it, it looks incredible! Well done.

Right- LDD is pretty solid overall, but until they implement a gravity and "swooshing" simulator it's no substitute for the real bricks!

I won't presume to speak for the whole community, but since there haven't been a lot of other replies... I think you can do whatever you want with your own personal property but, for the purposes of a MOC here, I would say that most people are against that kind of modification. Part of what makes MOCing fun is figuring out clever solutions within the System. If someone posted a huge, highly-complex MOC but achieved their result by cutting and shaving pieces, using stuff they picked up at the hardware store, etc., it wouldn't be all that impressive and would be much more "a creation made with some Lego" rather than "a Lego creation." I also think that most folks are more-or-less OK with things like cutting down a piece of flextube to the right length or modifying a minifig for decorative purposes (in which case it's a "customized minifig" anyway, not a MOC), but cutting bricks and technic pieces to "make it work" is somewhat frowned upon in general. Again, this is all just my personal thoughts along with what I've taken to be the summary opinion from many similar discussions over the years, but I'd say the better way to approach it would be to post the challenge you're having and see if you can get some ideas on how to solve it in-System from some of the other highly-creative AFOLS here!

Does anybody have information of this old user and his comics?
deraven replied to ponyboy's topic in Brick Flicks & Comics
That was Joebot that did those, I believe, and he's still somewhat active here as far as I know. I sent him a message for you, with a link to this thread. Perhaps he still has the comic available somewhere! -
Love the gang. I think the speeder and walker could do with a little more detail/greebling, but for the piece count this is just a great battle pack! I'd definitely buy it!
-
Love these builds! The table and chair are great, as are the "paper towels," and the egg in the egg cup is superb!

That purple helicopter is rockin'! :)

Love the colors! Completely forgot about that panel technique, and it looks great here! While small in size, the tower is full of excellent details. Lovely!

Nice- Classic Space fig with the cape is excellent. And that headgear cranks it right up to Flash Gordon.

Wow! So much detail! I really like the road and how the depth to the terrain was used. The only thing that would make this better would be a lot more pictures!

The overall shape and design is great, as is the color selection (even if they're not all available in real bricks!). I really like the hexagonal cargo pods, and the solar arrays build with the ship rigging pieces are a cool method as well. Wonderfully done!

Wow- great greebling, lovely posing, solid photos. Love it!

Love it! I too have a fond place in my heart for the ol' white and yellow, but this is really great. I also bought up the whole new Pirates wave, but the new ship is definitely lacking compared to the BSB (feels like it lacks contrast, and is a little too sparse overall with the design of the midships). While I like the smaller fortification sets pretty well, a nice big soldiers fort is conspicuously missing and this fits the bill!
