That's an awesome and thoughtful gift! I'm not sure if you'll have any luck finding a high enough resolution image of the box unless you reach out to someone who you know has one in good condition and get them to scan it for you (look on this forum and others for folks who've done a Retro Review of that set and message them, for instance). What I would do if I were you, is get a good quality scan of the instruction booklet (since I'm pretty sure it's the same basic image) and hen add the other elements yourself. All you'd need to do is add the yellow border, expand the Legoland yellow stripe and put Space System under if, add the "Ages..." box, and drop on an M-Tron logo. The only thing you'd really have to find to make that work (since the other elements are just text and solid colors) would be a high-res M-Tron logo and that's not too hard, even if you need to add in "The Power of Magnets" yourself.

I have such fond memories of 7722- my first train set! I remember the forklift that came with it and an awful lot of fun just loading and unloading the 2 pallets from that flat car.

[MOC] Tower of Orthanc Mini Modular House
deraven replied to PaddyBricksplitter's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
That's great! I think the fins are only too large if you're going for a serious, scaled-down version. However, for an over-the-top mini modular house, I think they actually work better being oversized as Andy D said! That is going to be one really interesting street! -
[MOC] RC Mini Jeep
deraven replied to Chade's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I think it's great the way it is, but if you want less "cute" I'd try making the headlights more aggressive (more like the tail lights - maybe an angled 1x2 trans-clear or trans-black tile instead of the 2x2 boat plates). I agree with others above- the front shaping is very nice. And the grill really sells it as a Jeep of some type. Lovely all-around! -
I think that's really nice. You've captured the feel of a classic biplane very well at that scale, and it looks like a lot of fun to swoosh around, too! The handle piece as machine guns above the engine cowling is NPU.

It's even better in physical bricks! And those cypress trees! I especially like the platforms themselves. Those railings and benches are great!

[LDD MOC] Modular Graveyard, Halloween Edition
deraven replied to Eggyslav's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Nice build. I particularly like the Predator, the rocket flames coming from that guy's feet (nice effect), the lighting from the clouds, and that UFO! -
Yes, the forks, the ball delivery wheel, and the snake slide are all lovely individually and fun to watch, and then putting them together in such a clean way is excellent. I don't think "clean" means "simple" and I certainly don't think "busy" equals "complex" so I don't see anything here to criticize. Well done!

Great work all-around, but for whatever reason those clips used as rings really stand out as serious NPU. Well done!

Great use of that old crater plate, and that hover drill equipment is nice!

Plenty of options on eBay, even for single figures. Here are 2 (the first I like best and has lots of flexibility with how it can be used): http://www.ebay.com/itm/FaBiOX-Lego-Compatible-Display-Case-for-Minifigure-w-Lego-Black-Base-Plate-/161857985390?hash=item25af7cdb6e:g:wuEAAOSwEeFVNpzl http://www.ebay.com/itm/1-LEGO-MINIFIGURE-DISPLAY-BOX-CASE-with-a-flip-door-Transparent-and-expandable-/161451901804?hash=item259748836c:g:flcAAOxyKsZR0QU0

So many nice details throughout! All I will say at the moment is: Yes, please- more pictures!

LOL at the flag replacement! The base is nice, and I like that tracked vehicle as well.

Welcome to EB! Glad to have you out of your Dark Ages and back with us!

That is really great! I do agree, though, that 2x2 round plates for bigger pupils would look better on the eyes, but super parts usage all over the place. Very nice!

What locality are you in, lori_Yagami? At least here in the US, I don't see any issue with the quality of the boxes. The smallest sets have somewhat thinner cardboard, but as noted above can still easily be opened without tearing them... but they're meant to just be recycled anyway. I do save boxes for my favorite sets and themes for various reasons, and most are plenty sturdy and hard to rip accidentally. That's not to say they're heavy, durable cardboard that's meant to be used for long-term storage, but I have Lego boxes from 30+ years ago that aren't much more durable than today's boxes, with the exception of the trays and other inserts that they used to come with in some cases. But, notably, in those cases they were actually meant to be used for storage (even says "Keep this box for storage!" right on it). I'll also say that I liked the trays and inserts from the 80's & early 90's from a marketing perspective, but from a view of ecologic sustainability I much prefer where they're at today. However, I do miss the mid-size sets that had the simple cardboard tray inside the regular box- those were great for sorting/building, and I actually still have many of those trays in use along with plastic bins today, so plenty of durability and re-usability, but of course could also be easily recycled. In a nutshell, I think the quality is just fine for the purpose, and durable enough for those who want to collect the boxes or use them for basic storage (though not for repeated loading, storing, and unloading). As for those who have expressed that some of the boxes are too big for what they actually contain, Lego is expressly addressing that with their new sustainability initiatives and more densely packing the same sets into smaller boxes, which could presumably mean slightly more durable boxes in the smaller size which could be a good thing for the saving/re-use topics mentioned above. See here for more info: http://www.lego.com/en-us/aboutus/responsibility With regard to the plastic bags, I have no idea why you'd want those to be resealable. I mean, I use ziploc bags for some sorting and storing in my overall collection, but I honestly can't say I'd have ever wanted a bag from a set to be resealable. When I'm building, I have the parts in plastic trays or bins (or some of those old cardboard trays I mentioned), and just leave them there if I'm building in multiple sessions. Once the build is done, the set is either built and doesn't need bags, bins, or boxes, or it's disassembled and stored with the rest of my parts, or very rarely together in smaller ziploc bags if I'm keeping the set's pieces together for some reason. lori-Yagami, what would you be using the resealable bags for? Do you disassemble each set back into it's different sections and then store them back in the original boxes and don't find the packaging sufficient to do that? Is that kinda what you're getting at with your post? If so, I can understand where you're coming from but, since 99.5%+ of the consumers don't do that, it would be extremely wasteful for Lego to change their packaging to facilitate that use. If that's what you're trying to do, I'd suggest getting some heavier-duty cardboard or slim plastic boxes that fit inside the Lego set boxes, and re-pack and store the pieces inside those.

Fantastic all-around! You've captured the key elements of many different buildings and merged them into something that feels just right. Beautiful job!

Nice! I'm really surprised how much better I like the set with that change. It's honestly gone from "like the show well enough, but not interested in the set" to "hey, that's a good looking set of bricks and a nice tribute!" Might actually pick it up now... along with some extra tiles.
-
Also- Type O Negative? That would be a really odd theme/inspiration for a MOC, but regardless of where it came from the results speak for themselves.

Phenomenal. I thought the album cover was good, but this takes the cake!! Just brilliant!

Great! Excellent use of that technique, and dead-on to the source!

OK, nerdsforprez, you're singlehandedly creating a market for these annoying pins! Now we have to see how much premium they can garner for the pain of sorting them out from the newer version... Honestly, though, I have a portion of my collection sorted by vintage (nothing too OCD, but more like "I instantly know this set/part is from 20+ years ago, so I'll disassemble it into the Vintage bins") and, like you, I do also use those older friction pins in areas that I really do need the extra friction/strength (but where I also know I'll be relatively likely to get them out later if necessary).

The parts usage, posing, buildings in the background- all great! Fun scene (and tribute to a little-know sci-fi story) that's very nice done!
