  1. Right, I think a better tactic for most folks who feel so inclined might be a student discount of some sort. Can't hurt to ask, keeping in mind the efforts they have put out to create them (as you noted). :)
  2. Great! I especially like the tea cart and how you did the tiny door at the bottom of the scene.
  3. Agreed with the others on it being bad luck, but I will add that I've seen a lot more stores with those kinds of minimum cost per lot type of rules than I ever saw in years past. I think that especially the folks that run smaller stores saw that and found a way to increase their margins so it's just a "fad" if you will, and will hopefully not spread too far. As RogerSmith said, I always read through the splash page rules before filling my cart, and overall I'm betting that there are plenty of stores that have lost more business than revenue recovered from the fees because of it. I have no problem with things like "$2.50 handling charge for orders under $XX," but the examples you gave are pretty bad.
  4. That would be interesting to see his take on it, but they already did the Section 31 + Klingon/Fed war (trying to start one, anyway) in Into Darkness and it wasn't exactly (Inter)stellar. But maybe something even more ridiculous and over-the-top but actually well-written could work. Like, the Borg have assimilated Species 8472 and are a real threat again, and now all the secret agencies (Section 31, the Tal Shiar, the Obsidian Order, the V'Shar, etc.) jump in to try to combat the threat while also undermining each other where possible. That sounds kinda horrible, but could be the kind of twisty-turny ride Nolan and some really good writers might make watchable.
  5. With Brickdoctor's note on that part, I think the only other one that you might not be familiar with is the pneumatic piece used for some of the joints. It's T-splitter, this part: http://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?P=4697b#T=C Of course, if you're not sure about anything else just ask and I'm sure there are plenty of folks here happy to help. Welcome to EB!
  6. That's really fun! But I'm pretty sure the replicator is in the wall by the dining table. Nice parts usage with the old airplane tail piece for the desk!
  7. To clarify, I believe he's talking specifically about affixing the paws/feet of Duplo molded animals to regular Lego bricks... and they are just about the least compatible items that Lego makes! This issue is that, while regular Lego molded animals work fine with studs (even the tail on rats being a good example of their typical attention to detail), so do Duplo molded animals, but only with Duplo studs. That is, with a Duplo brick or plate you have regular dimensions that work fine with standard Lego of a similar overall dimension, but the feet on the animals are irregularly shaped and work fine with Duplo studs but don't have cutouts and thus intersect with regular Lego studs making a connection impossible. I don't know how much space you have to work with, Angeli, but I have 2 suggestions: 1. The obvious. Put the animal on a Duplo plate, then connect the plate to standard Lego. Not a very elegant or clean solution, but it would connect and have appropriate clutch power. 2. This also isn't ideal, but might work for you. An old-style headlight brick with a 1x1 tile attached to the side stud will fit snugly in at least 1 of the feet of most Duplo animals. It's not a legal connection as it's purely based on friction, but it's secure enough to hold the animal upside-down but not so tight that it damages the bricks. The biggest issue is that, due to the placement of the Duplo stud-clutching bars in the irregularly shaped animal feet, usually only 1 or 2 feet end up with an orientation that holds firmly, and you can't predict the angle at which it'll end up. Since it's a 1x1 headlight brick, however, it's also relatively easy to connect that anywhere and rotate it arbitrarily so the animal is facing the desired direction. Anyway, hope that helps or gives you inspiration. If you'd like to brainstorm with folks here some more, give us a bit more detail on what you're trying to build and I'm sure there'll be plenty of folks happy to help!
  8. Wow, I love it! Great overall shape, and NPU/technique with the #1, the tender area, and the steps made from the hinge pieces. The motor and well wagons are lovely as well.
  9. This is really great! The overall shaping is lovely. I like the way the windshield came out as well as all the lights. As others have said, just the gaps in the front that detract from it. Certainly hard to find a solution to that at this scale, but there's little else I'd look to improve here. Well done.
  10. I have plenty of gripes about the new ST universe, but I can also be reasonable and sit back to enjoy something for what it is so long as it doesn't totally jump the shark. I saw Beyond last night, and it may be the best of the 3 NuTrek movies. I certainly felt it was better than Into Darkness, at least. Without spoiling anything, I really enjoyed that it did show some of the exploration and discovery aspects of the crew's 5 Year Mission, went back to more of their sci-fi roots with talking (a little) about how that kind of long-duration deep space mission affects the crew psychologically, etc., and still had plenty of eye candy and action for the folks looking for that without it feeling forced. Absolutely not a perfect movie by any means, but it was quite enjoyable, and it felt more like "real" Star Trek to me. The trailers really didn't do it justice at all!
  11. Very nice - one of the best I've seen! This would be a great template for an official minifig.
  12. It says right in the video - 3D Studio Max, and Lego Brick Builder. LBB is internal software not available to the public. You can use Lego Digital Designer or other programs like LDraw for your own virtual Lego models.
  13. Great look overall, nice base, and a couple super examples of NPU. Love it! :D
  14. Very nice. I particularly like that little bit of lava flow on the corner of the base!
  15. This looks great! On the tilt/motion control option that was shown in Sariel's video- can you also use that with the phone in another orientation? That is, rather than holding it flat (screen-up from the ground), can there be an option to grip the phone like a joystick and control the model that way? May be more natural for some uses with finer control, and less prone to to dropping the control device.
  16. Great to see KARR for a change! Some clever mechanisms in there, and the scanner light came out nicely. Now... how about using PF to have it transform into Super Pursuit Mode!?
  17. I enjoyed your write-up of the Inside Tour 2015 on your blog. Welcome to EB!
  18. Nice! The colors really work and there's a lot of nice detail for a build of that size. However, I think they should use a large flag for such a lovely outpost rather than that tiny 2x2 one!
  19. The figs are great, and while the car isn't the perfect rendition of the Citroen in the show, I think it looks alright. I think the roof is a little too prominent in this design; maybe try a 45677 piece to trim that down a bit and tie in at the back somehow... but as you said it's not particularly east at this scale.
  20. Welcome to EB, tycoon1954! Lots of good company here in the Mindstorms community forums. I'm sure you'll find plenty of inspiration and lots of folks willing to assist with questions or suggestions. Happy building!
  21. FYI, in case you missed it, here's a pretty solid LDD file for the GT40: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=135366
  22. That's great! Such a simple and classic shape, but with a lot of great detail built in. The windows are really nice viewed from the inside and out, and the interior detailing is super as well; I especially like the roof rafters and the furniture in the office.
  23. Very nice! Great use of the Slave I windscreen and overall shaping. I'm not a big fan of decals, but the custom stickers you've done really do add a nice touch to this MOC; also really like the color scheme in general. I'd like to see more of it and how the various wings and weapons articulate!
  24. Yeah, the only head I can think of that it might be is the one with spectacles, but that doesn't seem to fit. It would be really odd for only the glasses to have worn off completely between the mouth and the eye on that side that still has most of the printing.
