Looks really nice, and fantastic part usage on the teepee/dress!

Which of the 2 sets should I sell? Damaged boxes on both...
deraven replied to Archidelic's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Neither one of those is very bad. You know what I'd do? Put up a listing for sale noting that the box has minor damage, then give pictures of both like you did here and let the buyer choose which they're prefer (while making it very clear that you're selling just 1 and clearly label the photos of each box). -
That's fantastic! And the dead sunflower is great! Very nicely done.

Beautiful. Lots of nice detail in a build that size. I'd love to see a larger version!
-
Really nice! I'm especially fond of the integrated signage on the building and that truck, but the whole thing is great. I really like that floor technique, too, and it works really well here.

Brickarms Sonic Screwdriver?
deraven replied to Mr Greeble's topic in Minifig Customisation Workshop
Huh, I guess I got lucky with my couple clicks! Minifigforlife has them in-stock (UK) and they ship internationally, but that's probably a pretty expensive option. If you just want a Sonic Screwdriver and not specifically the Brickarms version, you can find plenty of the official Lego Sonic Screwdriver pieces on eBay for (relatively) reasonable prices. -
Brickarms Sonic Screwdriver?
deraven replied to Mr Greeble's topic in Minifig Customisation Workshop
Well, I'd say that any of the Brickarms resellers would be the obvious place to buy: http://www.brickarms.com/resellers.php I randomly checked a couple, and they seem to be available... are you having trouble finding one in-stock? -
I love these! Really creative, and very well done!
-
Yes, this. This is a big part of my "problem" at the moment! So many ideas... so little building time!
-
I'll also say that I've not really had any issue, other than Research Institute (but I still ended up with 2) and the Curiosity Rover (still zero). Every other Cuusoo/Ideas set has been easy enough to get, and I've definitely never had an issue with a set that had a reasonable production run or was one of the "regular" Lego themes. I'm quite sure the Doctor Who still won't be a problem to purchase. It might be popular enough to sell out an initial production run, but as other have said I'm sure they'll continue producing it in reasonably sized batches for a good while. At least, I hope so!

So this is a pretty odd thing, but I think it's really nothing. For the 65th Anniversary of Lego (which, as near as I can tell, in this instance was 1999; presumably from 1934 when Ole picked the name Lego for his business), the Lego company purchased a star "in the constellation Ursa Minor." Now, I'm sure it was from one of the many bogus "name a star" companies and "in Ursa Minor" is just parlance for in that region of the sky (not necessarily one of the stars that actually makes up the constellation), and the watch simply helped you sight Ursa Minor in general or perhaps even Polaris specifically since they mention "the North Star" several times, but the "Official Real-Life Lego Star" I'm sure was completely insignificant, other than the little marketing bit they did to sell the watch.

Yeah, not abnormal! I have a closet full of unbuilt sets that haven't been opened for various reasons, and now that I'm far enough into AFOL-ness I've run into a related issue: I have some sets that I fully intended to build and enjoy, but now they've been hanging out unopened for long enough to have become retired and appreciated in value! Now I look at some of them and think it'd be great to build, and then don't because "think of how much that is worth sealed!" But... it's not like I think I'd ever sell them, so... Ack! What am I doing to myself!? I think your bit about just needing "one more thing to go with it before I crack it open..." is pretty common from what I've seen when folks start getting deeper into trains and layouts.

Welcome to EB, Grandadbrick! Excellent that you jumped in and took the plunge, though your wife might eventually be sorry she got you started. All kids are different, but my 5-year-old daughter loves Lego of all kinds. She's played with Duplo since she was born (thanks to her brother who came along 2 years before she did), but has been into System-scale Lego since she was about 3.5 and can already easily do the 8-14 Age recommended sets with minimal to no help. She enjoys everything from Friends, to Elves, to Chima, to Star Wars, so I'd say not to be afraid to grab something for your granddaughter and see if she'd enjoy spending some time building with Grandadbrick! What worked best for me and my kids as they've been growing up is having a larger/more complicated set for myself and a related but smaller/easier for them so we could build together and I'd be there to quickly offer unobtrusive assistance if needed, but neither of us got frustrated with the other trying to build the same set, and then when we were done we could play with them together and have some more fun. Happy building, for yourself and/or with the little one!

[MOC] Ralphie's House From "A Christmas Story"
deraven replied to Boettner Builds's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Awesome! The tiles used for the siding are great. NPU on the Duplo "Fra-jee-lay" brick/crate. I do think you should add a nice icicle somewhere so it can fall and hit Ralphie in the eye. Also, if you haven't seen it, check out the Xmas Fun Pack from citizenbrick.com (watch the scrolling banner at the top of the page and you'll see it) - there's a minifig Leg Lamp! -
I wasn't quite sure what was going on from a thumbnail I saw earlier; glad I clicked in here.... that's brilliant! Love it.
-
Welcomt to EB! Happy you decided to de-lurk and join in the fun.

Also piping in to say that, while the entire thing is amazing, that detail with using the old/yellowed grey bricks in that intentional way is simply fantastic. Caught my eye on one pic, then noticing how it was done in the others gave me a really big smile. The engineering of the ankles, as well, is just great. Bravo!

Really nice. I must say, the addition of the various space elements on the sides really brings the whole thing to another level. There are plenty of frames full of minifigs out there, but that added detail does make this feel a lot more like it was meant to be wall art rather than just a display... which it was! Excellent.

Welcome to EB! Planning on a Lego Room for you both to enjoy sounds like you're set for a long and constructive relationship!
-
Excellent! Om Nom looks spot-on, and the candy is great too! I especially like that his cardboard box is a LEGO box. Cut the Rope mobile game(s), plus associated merchandise.
-
Nice build all-around. Where do they actually enter the cafe? I spy Benny inside enjoying a drink! Is the door under the cafe sign (using the rolling garage door pieces) functional? Really Nice Parts Usage with the bats on the lampposts!

Oh yes, the way those angles come together is delightful! Well done.

Special Lego VIP Shopping Event 2015
deraven replied to mediumsnowman's topic in General LEGO Discussion
As in years past, you call the phone number on the front and tell them that you're RSVPing for the event, then they check your name off the list. Not too complicated.
