Veeery smart build! Only at the second look did I realise you used all the Uruk Hai battle gear. Very nice work!

Lovely and cute! The overall atmosphere is just brilliant!

Well, a screenshot would indeed be helpful. But in any case, thanks for posting. If it's true (and I am open to that possibility) it is definitively a nice bit of information. @Robbert: you mean the extended versions of the Hobbit? Or is there something I missed?

Fantastic set - and pretty cheap as well, given what you get LEGO-wise! I love the designer video by the way.

I said yes, as they are an excellent means to recuperate some of the money spent on the set. Helps obviously that I never buy more than two or three of the army builder sets. For people who buy gazlions it is obviously not helpful.

It actually still is a bestseller in large markets such as the UK and Germany. Additionally especially the Mirkwood elf army and Dol Guldur battle seem to be doing very well. Here in the NL all the Hobbit sets are currently sold out at bol.com (cf. amazon) and one has to wait 2/3 weeks to get them. So yes either they bought in/made too few sets, or people are buying a lot of them (or both). In any case, this is good news for the fans as it increases the chances of getting more new sets .

Ha I actually would choose the exact opposite… and I would probably buy multiples of the Osgiliath set to amass Gondorian soldiers.

I agree with TheLegoDr: a decent Smaug set for say 200$ would not have a place in a regular wave: it would have been way too expensive. If TLG does a Smaug set it would only be possible to do it as a D2C. A price point of 200$ in a normal wave is just unrealistic. Moreover, there is still a wave to come, so I would rather wait and see instead of consider each wave by itself. E.g. there was a lot of talk about the lack of diversity in the orcs, but now we already have three types of orcs (Moria, Mordor, Gundabad) and two named characters (Yezneg, Azog) and who knows what is still in the pipeline! Sometimes I have the feeling we behave a bit like spoiled brats. Let's just be patient and enjoy LEGO Middle Earth as long as it lasts. After all, we've seen some brilliant sets and without a doubt more will come!

Just built the set. I have to say: the coolest figure in real life is really the statue - it looks brilliant and has great back printing! All in all the set is a mixed bag: some nice parts, great figs and some parts are nice builds. The room in the tower where the orcs live is pretty cute and a pleasant surprise. The final product does not look bad either. But it simply is a ruins, which is pretty difficult to translate into something interesting as a lego set. Moreover, it includes a lot of big pieces and the backside is simply not that appealing. But I am not complaining and found it nicer than the Goblin King set, Barrel Escape, attack of the warts and riddles of the ring.

Nice review! The set is a bit expensive in the NL (30 euro?!), but apart from that it looks like a very nice set! The new orcs especially are gorgeous, and I love how the model can be connected to the other Dol Guldur set. Overall, I think this wave is far more solid than the first one, which really only had one good set.

Very good polybag indeed! Will be expensive shipping it to Europe, but hey it seems worth it!

I agree regarding 'the line', but it seems the Orthanc was selling well: until recently, it was in the top 25 bestsellers in quite a few countries on lego.com + in the four Lego stores I visited they were flying of the shelves. Again that may be just anecdotal, but it is seems logical given that this is a theme that mainly appeals to AFOLs. My guess: one final D2C set about Gondor, that's it. It would be a shame, but hey, I'm happy with what we got: some brilliant minifies and a quite a few brilliant sets (e.g. An unexpected Gathering, Helm's Deep, Orthanc).

Very impressive work that you guys are doing there!

Do we already have a picture of the Legolas that will come in a polybag? Or is it the same as the one in the Mirkwood spiders set?

Interesting: the second preview picture shows Gandalf with a hair+hat piece... Regarding the LOTR sets: isn't the third movie supposed to be released in the spring? My guess would be one D2C LOTR set shortly after the Hobbit sets, but this is not the right thread to speculate about that I guess. In any case, glad the Hobbit line continues and great to see the sets popping up!

Very clever build! The shapes are obviously the eye-catchers, but I love the colours and the finishing details as well! Perfect build in my opinion!

How Many Mirkwood Elf Army Sets Do You Plan on Buying?
KristofBD replied to Deathleech's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I'll buy one. I bought 2 Uruk Hai armies, which was a great set as multiple walls could be connected to Helm's Deep. May be I'll buy 2 DGA sets to expand my Dol Guldur and Orc army and sell the Beorn figure.- 102 replies

We'll see if this is true. It makes sense that the third wave would include Eowyn, Galadriel and Gondor in general, as Gondor as no Gondor sets have appeared so far and Minas Tirith is an obvious centrepiece of a wave. All in all, I would really welcome such a wave. Until I know for sure, however, I'll just enjoy the second Hobbit wave pics some more

The sets look great! Compared to the blurry pics, I think the orcs are the biggest surprise: they look superb! Thranduil, Radagast and Beorn look absolutely stunning! Sure, this wave has no Bag End set, but I'm confident that TLG will give us some UCS somewhere in the near future (given how well the Orthanc seems to be selling). This wave is just a moneymaking in-between wave (people like us buying multiples of the sets) and quite good at it. For me that's ok, as long as it ensures this franchise to continue I'm happy!

Fantastic set! O how I will enjoy building this one. This is one of the best - if not the best- in the series. And that says a lot... Jamie you rock!
-
Well, after watching the trailer, I'm actually more enthousiastic both about the movie and the sets! A Dol Guldur set with smaller add-on set would be great (army building and a castle!)!
