  1. Wow, great sequence of builds de Gothia! The story may be short but it's effective. I really like the variety of builds you've made here--each one is unique, and they all look great!
  2. You're welcome to build in any of the guilds, including valyrio. My current story, for example, just went through Kaliphlin, and is about to go into Nocturnus.
  3. Osric's Tale Chapter 1 Chapter 2 Chapter 3 Chapter 4 Chapter 5 Chapter 6 Chapter 7 Chapter 8 Chapter 9 Chapter 10 Chapter 11 Chapter 12 Chapter 13 Chapter 14 Chapter 15 Chapter 16 Chapter 17 Osric arrived in Petraea just before day break the next morning. Weary from the road, he found an inn to catch a few hours of sleep before visiting the University. Petraea was even worse than Barqa when it came to feeling overcrowded. There were people everywhere, and they seemed to all know exactly where they were going except for him. Eventually he was able to stop someone to ask for directions for the University. It was easy enough to find, as some of the buildings were among the tallest in the city. Once he arrived at the University, however, things became difficult again. Just trying to get someone to stop for a minute to ask some questions seemed to be impossible. Most wouldn’t even stop to look at him. After trying for a good half hour, it seemed like the place finally settled down, and he saw a middle-aged man seated on a bench not far from him. Osric approached the man, and the man smiled at him. “You’re new here, aren’t you?” the man asked. Slightly startled, Osric hesitated a moment before answering, “I am. Would you be able to tell me who I might speak with regarding a chain that was used to enchant the giant who wore it?” The man chuckled briefly. “Right to business then. That sounds like Professor Binkett’s territory. He’s got his fingers in a lot of pies, and I think he’s more interested in other things, but he took over teaching the enchantments courses since the last professor left.” The man then explained to Osric how to find Professor Binkett’s office, and Osric thanked him before leaving to search once more. Osric found the room and knocked on the door. Immediately after knocking he heard a cheery voice telling him to come in. Osric entered the door to see a wiry old man jump up from his desk to greet him. The man had a long white beard and an oversized turban around his head, leaving two tiny but friendly eyes in the middle. “What can I do for you?” he asked Osric in an unexpected excitement. “Are you Professor Binkett, professor of enchantments?” Osric returned. “I am,” he said, and Osric sensed some of the excitement left his voice. “Are you a new student?” “No,” Osric said. “I’m here to ask about this chain that was on a forest giant in Avalonia.” Osric produced the chain from his pack and handed it to the professor before continuing. “The rune here glowed bright orange, and the giant was in a frenzy. Despite being very gentle creatures, this particular attacked a caravan of goods, and later it also attacked my companions and me. We were unable to harm the creature until the rune on the chain was attacked and the rune destroyed.” The old man took one look at the rune before looking up at Osric and said, “You’re lucky you were able to destroy the rune at all. Enchantments like these are usually indestructible unless the enchantment is removed using a incantation.” The man paused briefly before continuing. “I only know of one man capable of such an enchantment, but I can’t imagine him having any involvement in affairs in Avalonia.” “Who is he?” Osric asked, finally feeling like he was getting somewhere in his investigation. “He is my predecessor as professor of enchantments. His name is Gregor, and I can say with confidence that he is the greatest living enchanter alive today.” “Then why isn’t he still teaching the course? And how can you be certain he wasn’t involved with anything in Avalonia?” “We had to remove him from the faculty. Brilliant as he is, he is also…unstable. He was very friendly. That is, of course, until he wasn’t. He would have weeks of normal behavior, and then for reasons unbeknownst to me, he would change. We had to ask him to leave the University after we had reason to believe he was behind the disappearance of several students. Since then he’s resided in a keep in the Goolag Archipel region of Nocturnus. The reports we’ve received are that he hasn’t left the keep since.” “Thank you for your help,” Osric answered. “Would you be able to show me where his keep is located on a map?” “I can do better than that,” he answered. He walked to his desk and pulled something out of a drawer. “I made this when he became unpredictable. It works as a compass, but only points in his direction. Since he left, all it does is point Northeast, which is also how I know he hasn’t been in Avalonia. I don’t need it anymore, so you’re welcome to take it with you.” “Thank you,” Osric said, as he looked the compass over before quickly putting it in his pack. “I’ll be on my way then.” “One more thing before you do,” Binkett said with a concerned look. “One thing I noticed while Gregor was here is that when he is in his normal state, he uses his right hand. When he is in his altered state, he uses his left hand. You can also tell when he is going to change soon, as he starts handing objects back and forth in his hands. When you reach him, make sure he is using his right hand. If he is not, it would be best you leave immediately and seek him out later.” “That sounds like very valuable information, and I thank you once again for it,” Osric said. With that, Osric left the man in his office and began making plans for reaching the Goolag Archipel. My last build in Kaliphlin for this story. While I defiintely enjoy the aesthetic that's been developed for Kaliphlin, it's difficult for me to build in. I'll most likely build in Kaliphlin once again at some point, but for now, and until I get more bricks in appropriate colors, I'm glad I'm done building there for a while! Comments and Criticism are most welcome!
  4. I really do like the base, as others have said, you really have mastered it. I'd like to take a stab at it one of these days, but I know it won't look as nice as this one!
  5. Nice and simple, but looks great. This style building always looks great. Keep it up!
  6. A nice idea. I certainly didn't are him at first!
  7. Beautiful, as expected. The story keeps getting better (although possibly not-so-chronologically ordered). Looking forward to more!
  8. Very nice and elegant build. I like the little details. Not a bad story either!
  9. Osric's Tale Chapter 1 Chapter 2 Chapter 3 Chapter 4 Chapter 5 Chapter 6 Chapter 7 Chapter 8 Chapter 9 Chapter 10 Chapter 11 Chapter 12 Chapter 13 Chapter 14 Chapter 15 Chapter 16 Chapter 17 Osric and Christine arrived in Ruadh without major incident. They encountered several beggars along the way, but after the first 2 days of traveling they had to stop handing out food to the beggars, or else they would have risked starving themselves. Despite the staggering heat, Osric wore his armor. He hoped they would not have to defend themselves, but he put Christine’s safety above all else, and therefore wanted to stay prepared. When they had arrived at Ruadh, the two were greeted at the gate by a group of Minotaurs on guard. Osric honestly had no idea if Minotaurs spoke the same language as he did, but as they approached, one spoke to him. “State your business,” he demanded. “I’ve come so that my companion may enroll,” Osric answered. “If I can find someone in charge that can assist her I’ll be on my way.” “Then you should speak with Seamus or Siedna,” the Minotaur said. “Unfortunately they’re not to be disturbed at this time.” The Minotaur paused and pondered a moment before continuing. “You could always talk with Matteus, Siedna’s husband. He doesn’t usually take in new students, but I can’t think of anything he doesn’t help out with in this town, so I’m sure he will be able to help you out.” “That will do,” Osric said. “Where would we find Matteus today?” “He’s likely testing a few ales in one of the taverns. He’s something of a connoisseur.” After receiving directions to where the taverns were, Osric and Christine thanked the Minotaur and were allowed to enter Ruadh. The town, though still quite foreign to Osric, seemed much more comfortable to walk through the Barqa had. It was safe to say this was mostly attributed to being far less crowded. The first tavern they found was called “Al’s Ales”. It was very uncommon for women to enter a tavern in Oros. Though it was possible that this was not the case in Kaliphlin, he was unsure and asked Christine to wait outside to be on the safe side. Taverns—even the ones in Avalonia—were still quite foreign to Osric. Ever since his brother’s death, Osric vowed to avoid alcohol all together. Osric allowed himself a few seconds to remember his brother, and how he in his drunkenness started a fight with a man who had done nothing wrong. Osric pushed the memory back once more before proceeding to the bartender and asking if Matteus was around. “I’m Matteus,” said a man who was sharing a drink with a Minotaur in the corner next to the bar. “What can I do for you?” “My name is Osric Farwind, and I’ve travelled here from Avalonia. My father has instructed me to bring a woman here to see if she can be enrolled. She is gifted when it comes to painting, but I’m afraid her talents are wasted where she lives.” “She’s certainly come to the right place,” the man answered. “Hers is a story I’ve heard often. You must be in a hurry to be off, or else you would have spoken with my wife or Seamus. Are you in any trouble?” Osric was a little startled by the question. With the war happening in Kaliphlin, Osric felt as though everyone else had far more trouble than he. “No trouble,” he finally answered. “I’m just eager to get to Petraea and have some questions answered.” “Fair enough,” Matteus answered. “I’ll bring her to the dormitories right away. She’ll be able to stay there for the night, and I’ll have Seamus come see her in the morning.” “Thank you,” Osric returned, and offered his hand to Matteus as he stood. As he did so, he wondered if shaking hands was a custom in Kaliphlin as it was in Avalonia. His question was soon answered as Matteus shook his hand, and the two walked out the door to find Christine. Osric was never big on conversation, but he always found goodbyes to be the most difficult. Working with Christine in the smithy for so long, Osric grew quite fond of her, and was unable to say anything other than, “You’re always welcome to come back.” She couldn’t give an answer aside from wet eyes and a long hug. Osric finally left to head out for Petraea. Evening was setting in, and he had already learned that travelling through Kaliphlin at night was much more pleasant than during the day. He blocked out thoughts of working at the smithy next to Christine by focusing on the forest giant and the mysterious chain it had worn. Hopefully he would find answers at the University, and hopefully all was well back home. This whole Kaliphlin challenge has been a little painful, as there's been so much great activity, and I really wanted to participate more than I have, but I just can't get my desert builds to turn out how I want them. This was a very quick and simple one to avoid that frustration as much as I could while I attempt to participate more in the challenge. It didn't really help however. Anyway, I hope you've enjoyed. C&C more than welcome, and I've already got three other builds for this story complete, and should be posted relatively soon!

  11. Has anyone heard from SarahJoy? I've been waiting a month to post a build in Ruadh because I'd like her to approve it first. We talked about what I would build and the story ahead of time (and I really don't foresee any problems), so I'm wondering if I should just post it, and if she has problems with it when she returns I can edit it. I've got almost three builds finished after this one to post that are part of the same story line. And just wanting to double check, Petraea is no one in particular's city, and is open for all to build in, correct?
  12. This is a great looking inn, and I like how it's built open on the sides and from above. The interior is also great, and there's lots of fun details. The story is also excellent.
  13. The Desert King just decided to sink Ulandus into the ocean with sorcery because of a dispute to use them as an example. The example didn't work and the folk in the west marches weren't too happy with him, so he tried to sink them too. Certainly doesn't sound too benevolent to me, though it might to someone with Stockholm Syndrome.
  14. Nice little build! I especially like the round table design. I'm glad to see this developing more and I'm really excited to see what comes next.
  15. I really like the look of that tree trunk. The rest of the build fits well, and the while scene provides a very nice atmosphere. I'm lookin forward to reading more.
  16. Welcome to Eurobricks! I look forward to seeing you over in the Guilds of Historica, and hopefully Avalonia!
  17. I'm definitely getting a spy vs. spy vibe from those two in front. Not a bad scene in general. Keep it up!
  18. Wow. Great work as usual. I'm working on (about 50 pieces short at the moment) a nocturnus build to be a part of my Osric Farwind story that is a very similar concept. Needless to say it won't look anywhere near as nice as this. Amazing build man!
  19. Not bad at all! I like the simple house and the tower isn't bad either. Nice simple interiors as well. Only little criticism is that the ground could use a little work all over, though this is something I struggle with as well.
  20. Wow, GREAT scene! Lots of fun little details everywhere!
  21. Post it in the regular guilds of Historica forum as it's own topic. Later you will link it in the free builds thread once it's updated for the next quarter.
  22. On the contrary, I think posting his intentions ahead of time would have prevented seeing people's opinions on this topic. If art is supposed to arouse a reaction, it's often more interesting to see the reaction without influencing it by explaining it.
  23. Z, I understood what you were saying, and I'm sure most people did as well. However, TragicBanjo could have gotten offended because he was one of the kids who wanted wizards and dragons. I'm not saying you meant for it to come accross this way, but the way you worded it, one could easily infer that you're calling said people who enjoy wizards and dragons, idiots. I also don't care all that much about the actual sets. If Lego "Chimafies" castle with absurd vehicles, I COULD be just fine with it, as I would turn them all into MOC fodder anyway. So long as the figures aren't <insert that tiresome argument>--Along the lines of LOTR figs in terms of detail and color schemes--I would be happy. I want the sets to appeal to kids. Chima sure didn't appeal to me, but if it was such a success with kids that Lego was able to get as many waves and factions from it as they did, then by all means, design castle sets the same way. I would love to get so many castle factions as there were chima factions--as long as they're not <insert that tiresome argument>.
  24. Interesting concept. Those aerial perspective shots are great! Really good micro scale and forced perspective here.
