  1. Osric's Tale Chapter 1 Chapter 2 Chapter 3 Chapter 4 Chapter 5 Chapter 6 Chapter 7 Chapter 8 Chapter 9 Chapter 10 Chapter 11 Chapter 12 Chapter 13 Chapter 14 Chapter 15 Chapter 16 Chapter 17 Osric had been traveling through the Moruth Swamplands for several weeks before he thought he had found the entrance to the tunnels marked on Mordred’s map. Traversing through the swamplands was difficult, and Osric had never travelled over such terrain. He had several close calls with the local wildlife during his first week, but once he had studied them long enough he understood how they hunted, and was soon able to hunt them himself. Although he had never eaten alligator, and it was very strange at first, he soon adjusted to it, though he still longed for some other food. Osric decided he couldn’t be sure if he had really found the entrance unless he tried it out. Though the cave certainly didn’t look like much, he knew that if he could squeeze through the cavern could open up and be enormous underground. He took a few more breaths of fresh air, trying to enjoy them while he could, as he thought about how far away Avalonia must be as the crow flies. Going through winding tunnels could double that distance, but with the current turmoil and rumors of rebellion, staying hidden seemed to be his best option. He just hoped his supplies of alligator meat would last long enough. After a little break I've got a new chapter up! I originally planned to make an irregular base for this build, but with my selection of dark green I couldn't get it too look very natural underneath the swamp portion. I then decided covering it up would be the best for the build. Building a border for the irregular shaped base ended up being trickier than I expected and took up at least half of the build time for this one. Anyway, thanks to everyone who is following this story. This next chapter might take a while to get up as well, as I'm still trying to figure out exactly what's going to happen in the next few chapters. For anyone that's wondering, I'm guessing the story will be finished around Chapter 20 or so. Anyway, comments and criticism is most welcome, and I hope you enjoyed!
  2. I say keep it simple. You're saying the simple version will be similar to GoH, which is already somewhat complicated and deterring to newcomers joining (I myself resisted joining GoH because it seemed complicated/confusing). Your idea in the complicated rule set seems promising, so it makes me wonder if it could be implicated in a challenge or something similar later on.
  3. This looks great!ive been wanting to build a similar style castle as we'll and have been slowly accumulating parts for it, but have no idea when I might try it. Looking forward to when you're finished with your service and can return full time!
  4. There are some great figs in here. It kind of makes me miss this challenge!
  5. This is a fun idea of what to do with an old MOC. Very nice! I was however expecting monkeys to replace the gargoyles.
  6. The Kaliphlin build is good, but your cathedral looks great! Some great texturing and techniques in here. Good to see you back!
  7. Sounds very Van Helsing-esque, Mike. I look forward to seeing that idea develop into MOCs!
  8. Welcome to Eurobricks! As a castle fan, be sure to check out the Guilds of Historica subforum within the Historic section here!
  9. Technically this is an Avalonian task, but it's fine for you to take inspiration from it. Imitation is the most sincere form of flattery after all!
  10. Great little build. Is this part of a story?
  11. Osric's Tale Chapter 1 Chapter 2 Chapter 3 Chapter 4 Chapter 5 Chapter 6 Chapter 7 Chapter 8 Chapter 9 Chapter 10 Chapter 11 Chapter 12 Chapter 13 Chapter 14 Chapter 15 Chapter 16 Chapter 17 As he stepped through the door, Osric found himself in a long descending corridor with no one to be seen. He wondered how the door had opened for him without anyone being on the other side. At the end of the corridor He could see a doorway with light flooding out and made his way for it. His instincts told him to draw his sword as the feelings of uncertainty and anticipation were weighing heavily on him now. He refrained from doing so, expecting a drawn weapon to provoke someone as unpredictable as Gregor. His anxiety was settled as he reached the doorway at the end of the corridor and saw the man who could only be Gregor, who was carrying a staff in his right hand. Binkett said that when Gregor used his right hand he was safe. On one of Gregor’s sides stood a man dressed in white robes carrying a lit candle. He had a very calming appearance and Osric felt at ease when he saw him. However, on Gregor’s other side stood a man—though Osric couldn’t be sure he was truly a man—dressed in black armor wielding a heavy blade that appeared to be goblin forged. This man gave Osric a very uneasy feeling. The men stood on a ledge overlooking three thrones—undoubtedly for Gregor and the other two men at his sides. The next thing he noticed was that the rug on which he stood were Avalonian colors, as were the colors of Gregor’s robes. The colors made him feel at home for an instant before he saw the banners of Nocturnus on the walls and his thoughts of home made him home sick. Gregor greeted him with a smile saying, “Greetings, traveler, and welcome to my home. You’ve called for me by name, so you must know who I am, and these two men you see beside me are my councilors. On my right is Gwynn, and on my left is Mordred. However I fear I have no knowledge of who you may be. Let us even the field. Who are you, and why do you seek me?” “A fair question,” Osric began. “My name is Osric Farwind and I have come from Avalonia seeking knowledge of a chain that was found on an enchanted forest giant on my father’s lands. My search brought me to Petraea University, but no one was able to answer my questions, aside from saying you would surely know the answers.” “You were at Petraea, you say?” The man stopped and pondered his words a moment. Finally he smiled and continued, “At least they sent you to the right place. Let me see the chain.” Osric presented the chain to Gregor and the three men looked it over. “Daemeon,” Mordred spat out followed by what could have been called a growl. “I told you he should have been hunted down. He’s too dangerous!” Gregor hesitated a moment, pondering Morded’s words before turning to Osric saying, “I apologize for Mordred’s outburst. He is a half-goblin. A wonderfully disgusting creature if I may say so, but sometimes he can be a little rash. He is right; this is certainly the work of Daemeon, the most promising student I taught. He’s the only other person I’ve encountered to be able to perform such an enchantment. Luckily for you, he’s crafted the chain too large so that it would fit around the giant, and therefore the enchantment was stretched too thin. Had he fit this chain for a smaller beast you would have found yourself quite unable to break it.” “Daemeon was never found, and I fear he may still be at work. It is possible he will try this again, fix his mistake and use smaller beasts, and succeed in whatever evil he is trying to accomplish,” Osric said. “Would you have any idea what he is up to? Why would he enchant a forest Giant in Avalonia?” “Hope is not lost,” Gwynn explained in a calm voice. “Though it would be impossible for anyone but a master enchanter to remove the enchantment through a decantation, Gregor has developed a potion that can be applied to the chain to remove the spell. It could be applied to a blade so that the blade may cut through the chain as you have done with this one.” “Yes. Gwynn, would you go fetch this potion for our guest?” Gregor said. “As for what Daemeon is trying to accomplish in Avalonia, I can think of only one think he would be after. As you know, the old Druids of Avalonia have hidden many powerful artifacts throughout the world, including the Elemental Helm Victor Revolword used to try to take over the kingdom. My guess is he’s figured out where another such artifact is hidden and is trying to finish what Revolword started.” “Then he must be stopped at all costs!” Osric proclaimed. “What else do you know about him that I could use against him?” “He’s vermin!” shouted Mordred. “Yes. He is,” Gregor said with a blank stare. Osric then noticed Gregor held his staff with both his hands, and he remembered the professor’s warning, that Gregor’s change was near. Just then Gwynn returned with a vial. Sensing the situation, he said to Gregor, “Yes, but through virtue can we triumph.” Gregor’s blank stare faded, and returned his gaze to Osric, “Yes, yes, of course.” His left hand had fallen from the staff, and Osric understood that his two councilors influenced his state of mind. Gregor continued, “Every wizard has a staff from which he can draw an immense amount of power. Some wizards carry a wand as it’s easier to conceal, and some can perform magic with just their hands, but it’s not as strong. The strongest spells are always cast with a staff. I have no idea how he managed it, but Daemeon was able to forge a magical warhammer that he uses as his staff. An evil weapon filled with malice, it’s easily recognizable, and he can swing it with force the he should have no right to. He wears a ring that I’ve always suspected was a strength ring. If this ring’s enchantment was destroyed with the potion you’ve received, his ability to wield his staff would be greatly diminished.” “Thank you very much for your kindness,” Osric said, hoping using polite words would help to keep him in his current state. “You’ve given me all the pieces I need to stop him. I must only return home as quickly as I can and find him before he wreaks more havoc upon the land.” “The old goblin tunnels would be the quickest way to return to Avalonia, though perilous.” Gwynn explained. “Mordred has a map I’m sure he’d be happy to give you so that you may navigate your way home.” “I most certainly would not be happy to do so!” Mordred answered. “Besides, such a man would most certainly die within the tunnels. Nowadays there are Drow, and worse infesting those tunnels.” “The man looks more than capable to my eye,” Gregor said. “Give him the map, or the Kingdom may suffer once again.” Mordred gave Osric the map as commanded, and showed him where the closest entrance was, a small wolf den at the edge of the Moruth Swamplands to the North. Osric thanked the three again before making his retreat. He was still worried about how unpredictable Gregor was, and was quite happy to be leaving him behind, even if it meant heading into Drow infested tunnels. I wanted to thank you all for the feedback I've received on this story so far. Chapter 9 has received the best praise of any of my MOCs, and I really appreciate it. I know none of my builds are jaw dropping, but hopefully they're good reminders to everyone that you don't need to make jaw-dropping MOCs to be a part of GOH! Comments and Criticisms are appreciated as always!
  12. With those interests make sure you check out the Guilds of Historica in the Historic section. Welcome to eurobricks!
  13. Very we'll designed inside and out. This gives me some ideas to try myself sometime!
  14. Always good to see a GOT moc. It all looks great, but my one critique would be that the face used for Mormont doesn't really look like him in my opinion.
  15. Great series of builds. Making small simple builds look as nice as you have is not as easy as some may think. Oh, and the name Liddel Studd made me laugh for a while!
  16. Very nice work all around. That first picture looks fantastic. I hope to see more builds from you!
  17. Don't worry about building standards. Everyone had to start somewhere, and not everyone is capable of producing front page material.
  18. I think they were more of a thing during the last book, although some have been given out during the Kaliphlin challenge (among others in book 2 I am sure). Someone who knows better might have to explain a little better though.
  19. I also had thought to make GOT inspired twin fortresses across a river from each other. Yours turned out great. Very good execution of the idea!
  20. Wow. It's certainly picture intensive, but I'd say it's necessary to show all of the amazing details. There are some really unique techniques I've never seen used. This is a really amazing build, that I'll be looking at for a while to pick up all the great details.
  21. Osric's Tale Chapter 1 Chapter 2 Chapter 3 Chapter 4 Chapter 5 Chapter 6 Chapter 7 Chapter 8 Chapter 9 Chapter 10 Chapter 11 Chapter 12 Chapter 13 Chapter 14 Chapter 15 Chapter 16 Chapter 17 It took Osric some time to decide the best way to get through the Rakath Mountains and to the Goolag Archipel. In the end he decided on the more traveled road through Qarkyr and try to find a ship at Adskhan that was traveling to Nocturnus. It was a longer route than some others he had considered, but it seemed the safer and wiser route. His decision seemed to have paid off, as he made it into Adskhan without incident. He was also able to find a Captain who was travelling North on a trade route to Mitgardia. He was a little hesitant to take Osric on when he mentioned he would need to be dropped off in a rowboat near Goolag Archipel, but he later agreed when Osric said he would pay for the rowboat and would not require being picked up when he was finished. Finding the island where Gregor’s keep was would have been fairly simple even without the compass, although the word island might not have been the right word of it. The island looked like a jagged rock sticking out of the ocean with a stout keep crookedly perched upon it. There was a winding stair leading up to the keep, and little room for anything else. The Captain was again hesitant when Osric told him that he wanted to be left near the island, but eventually he ordered the crew to drop the boat and left Osric muttering. Osric rowed to shore and found a small post to tie his boat to at the base of the stair. Osric climbed the steps thinking about Professor Binkett’s warnings. All he could do was hope Gregor was in his friendly state. If he was not, Osric wasn’t exactly sure what to do, as a hasty escape seemed unlikely. He finally reached the door and pounded on it with all his might. After no answer, he called out, “I seek the lord of the keep, Gregor the Enchanter. I have come from far away, for I seek your wisdom.” After he finished Osric only had to wait a few seconds before hearing a loud click within the door. The door slowly began to swing inward with a terrible groan. Osric took a deep breath as a pale light poured out upon him from beyond the doors. He took a step through the door with a feeling of uncertainty. This was a fun one! It was without a doubt the largest MOC I've build to date (aside from DUPLO "MOCs" with my son!) There are a few little details I wasn't completely happy with, but overall I'm very satisfied with how it turned out. I've also got the next chapter done and photographed, but might take a little longer to write it. Please let me know what you think! Enjoy!
  22. Burnby is owned by Duke Cassius (EB user CarsonHaupt). If I remember right he said he wouldn't be around much until the Kaliphlin challenge is over. You can usually figure out who owns the territory by entering it in the search bar and seeing who mentioned the territory first.
  23. Great looking ruins Kai. That first shot is amazing. Lego definitely allows you to build ruins very nicely, as you've demonstrated perfectly here.
  24. A fantastic build! I really like the atmosphere that's shown through the figs. The whole scene is great but I'd like some more detailed pics!
