Thanks! I spent hours thinking what a TIE pilot could mean in that desert. Glad you like it. The sandcrawler was in fact my first idea, and I'm glad it worked out quite nicely. I think it's recognizable enough. I added a new image of it, so if you want to have a closer look, be my guest. And yes, I used LDD for this. Than I rendered it with LDD2POV-Ray, and then I did some photo-editing in GIMP. So free programs all the way . And since I'm not the best in working with all these programs, I'm really happy with the final picture. The fact that you ask if it is digital at all, means a lot to me. Thanks! Glad you like the little extra bit I added to my scene. I tried not to edit impossible things in however. I just wanted to make a picture that could have been made in real life as well. I hope it's not distracting anyone.

LEGO Collectable Minifigures - The LEGO Movie Series Discussion
BEAVeR replied to Klaus-Dieter's topic in Special LEGO Themes
And I thought the Elizabethan actor from series 8 looked good... and now look at that shakespeare! Want! I do hope we get to see the classic space guy somewhere... -
The suns have set, and it's getting pretty cold on this godforsaken sandbox. But I shouldn't complain. At least, I'm alive. I was keeping a close eye to the ground, searching for signs of rebels, the Black Sun, or something else that could threathen our troops (not that that rebel scum could harm us in any way, but better safe than sorry. Besides, I had to make sure our groundtroops wouldn't fall into the pit of some desert monster. Well that was a threat!). I knew we were approaching the rebels, so I was extra focused. At first, I didn't even notice the slight shaking of my TIE. But when it grew worse, and when everything was getting way to dusty, I noticed the sound. The motor of a Star Destroyer couldn't match that sound. It was enormous, and it was all around me. It made my head and my craft spinning. Black was everything I could see when I regained consciousness. The inflatable cushions had worked, and they had saved my life. Drowsy, I managed to get out of my craft. It wasn't easy, since it lay at an unusual angle and because I had to be careful with all the debries. The suns were just above the horizon, and in their light I could witness the wreckage that once was my TIE Fighter. In the neighbourhood, I could see several Stormtroopers. Some were moving slowly, others didn't move at all. A commander came towards me. I convinced him the TIE was of no use. Obviously, it couldn't fly, and I had a power leak. The transmitter was broken as well. But I offered to stand on guard, because I don't now how to treat the wounded and I do now how to look around. So I ended back on top of my TIE. [soNE Ep. II] To rob a thief by Bert.VR, on Flickr And just moments ago, when the suns had set, a Sandcrawler appeared on the horizon. Hurrah! Life! Although it were those filthy Jawas... but they had a vessel capable of crossing this dessert. My mind worked like a mad man. Since a couple of years, the Jawas stayed away from us (this probably had to do with those few worthless Jawas that were killed in pursuit of some droids, I think). So just like our own companions, they must think we're all that. They just here to steal our equipment, but if we act quick enough, we could reverse this. I hurry of my TIE to inform the commander. He approves of my plan, and everyone still able to hold a gun is being prepared. The Jawas are coming closer, and we are ready. Our ambush isn't very refined, but it'll have to do. Soon, we'll be out of this place, highjacking a Sandcrawler. Soon, those Jawas will shiver and bring us to our companions in one of the mayor cities. Soon, we'll be able to shake this sand out of our suits. We're about to rob a thief. For those interested, here is what I saw through my binoculars: [soNE Ep. II] Sandcrawler close-up by Bert.VR, on Flickr This is what I didn't want to see... my TIE... broken. [soNE Ep. II] What a mess! by Bert.VR, on Flickr And O, In the first shot Tatooine may seem like a beautiful place, but when viewed from a different angle, you can see what kind of mess it is... It does manage to stay upright, however. [soNE Ep. II] What I don't want you to see by Bert.VR, on Flickr Extra parts: none, except for the baseplate and the minifig. That's why the colors are terribly of and I had to take (read: render) a picture with contours. It turned out pretty cinematic, I think. LXF-file: find it here Thanks again for organizing this wonderful contest! This really got my creative juices going. It was a great contest to have as my first one.

Shadows of Nar Eurbrikka — Introduction and Discussion
BEAVeR replied to Brickdoctor's topic in Nar Eurbrikka Archive
BEAVeR here, applying for the wonderful position of TIE-pilot (so wonderful in fact, almost nobody has applied for it yet... well, more cookies for me). I'm not very fast or handy with my machine, but I know what I'm doing. That rebel scum will never get me! For the Empire! Although I'm crashed in the desert of Tatooine for now (where I luckily have internet acces!), I'll get out of it soon, and I'll report on my adventures. Over and out. -
What a nice creation! You combine excellent texturing (The water needs no mention, but have you noticed the nice texture on the ground with those leaf pieces?), exquisite micro building (forget about the Brickarms: it's just a nice ballista) and a delightful composition. This MOC looks bigger than it is. When you're saying that not everything is as you want it to be, what are you thinking of. Is it the bit monotonous air of the rockwork, or something else?

[SoNE Free Build] RZ-2x Experimental Interceptor
BEAVeR replied to LegoFjotten's topic in Nar Eurbrikka Archive
Now this is a ship I would like to see in the Sequel Trilogy! It's very familiar to the "normal" A-wing, but the design looks more advanced and somewhat reminds me of a Coruscant air speeder. You've struck the perfect balance between conservation and innovation. Well done! The astromech does'nt bother me. But maybe you could use that other engine part with a square cut out (I'm sorry, I'm not capable now to describe it more accurately. It's the piece that's used in the UCS Imperial Shuttle ...). I wonder what a spaceship would look like when it had a sidepod (like a sidecar on a motorbike) for the astromech... Just cruising along with your best mechanical friend -
[KEY TOPIC] Official LEGO Sets made in LDD
BEAVeR replied to Calabar's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Warning: NEVER underestimate those Creator sets from around 2003. They only have about 600 pieces, but can give you instructions for 20 models! It begins small, and ends (if it even ends!) quite large. But always very qualitative. Warning: recreating these sets is quite addictive too. Don't come complaining if you're late for dinner every time. Warning: now it will be even more difficult to find sets that haven't been build yet in this topic. Mwouhahaha! (Damn, that includes me...) Note: people with arachnophobia should not scroll too far down! It took me about five minutes to finally write my appreciation down for this MOC. I am very impressed. Just look at the posing. Cleverly using several joints, this creation surpasses a mere diorama and becomes a scene. Then look at the details. Have you seen those elegant guns? And of course, there is the horse (wow, that rhymes!)... absolutely stunning. It is probably the best LEGO horse I've ever seen. (one remark: why did you use that curved piece at the back of the horse with the technical looking detail on it? There is a perfect, smooth alternative). To make a long story short: AWESOME!

SoNE Contest Episode II: Escaping from the wreckage
BEAVeR replied to Bob De Quatre's topic in Nar Eurbrikka Archive
Now this got me in for sure! I will subscribe immedeately. Not only am I allowed to build with LDD, it's a very interesting challenge as well. Thanks staff! I have two questions however. 1) is it allowed to build in any scale? 2) is there a way somebody could share a good and easy method to apply often-used decals like that from the stromtroopers? I'm looking forward to my first contest! I bet there are a lot of people that are going to participate on this one... More people, more joy! -
Very nice! Whether you look at the shaping, the figures pose or the crushed snow: you see something cool (no pun intended) everywhere. Great job in representing the idea of a snowmobile.

If an UCS Slave I is really upon us, I wonder how they'll do the cockpit. The system-sets all had this huge canopy piece, but I don't think a larger piece exists for a bigger model. Maybe it will be brick-built, because such a large mold seems impropable to me.

[Software] LDD2PovRay
BEAVeR replied to Superkalle's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Hi, you're doing some wonderful things with LDD and POV-Ray. Congratulations. I hope I can help. 1) Calabar has already mentioned a solution. If that wouldn't work however (for some very obscure reason), you can always use the simple Copy/Paste feature, found in the Edit-menu. 2) I'm sorry, I can't help you with this. You are now the expert on shiny things... 3,4,5) You should read bbqqq's topic (http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=86159&hl=) (additional video: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=83515&st=25). He has discovered a way to apply decals on several surfaces that normally wouldn't take any (I vaguely rember the banner was one of them), and render them in POV-Ray. For more information, I think you should get in touch with him. I hope this was a helpful piece of information! I hope you can take your digital renders to a next level. -
If I'd mention what I don't like about this model, this post would be blank. But since that's rather pointless, I could just as well say I like everything. The nice compact scene with all the perfect (including some angled!) greebles, the verticalness of the greebles (I notice this for the first time), the innovative crates, the tension in the scene, the perfect balance between smooth and textured surfaces... If I'd mention everything I like about this moment, this post would be too long.

I'm a great fan of your work. Although I try to aim to using less pieces and legal connections only, your work provides a great inspiration to me. This model, is really nice. I like how you've improved on your previous design (th Y-wing from the Clone Wars). That is apparent in the great domes and the beautifully shaped cockpit. The body looks a little bit undersized, if I compare it to my reference pictures (in fact, I used exactly the same piece for the body on my model!). And is the construction with the bars and clips very stable? Anyway a great addition to your already amazing collection. I do hope you keep updating it regularly!

I've just recieved an answer form the costumer service of LEGO. They told me lego S@H and the LEGO Store won't have a simular action, because they already have there own promotions (dubble VIP points next month). More reasons to hurry to your store immedeately!
-
There is a very nice extra tied to the opening of the LEGO Store! From September 26 to September 29, all mayor toy stores in the Benelux give a 25 % reduction on all LEGO! I'm talking about shops like Dreamland (which already has the lowest prices), Fun, Bart Smit, Intertoys, Brickshop (online)... Even exclusives are included in this sale! So now is the perfect time to pick up, let's say a Death Star or SSD for € 300. just a pitty that most stores don't have the red five, orthanc, ewok village or opera house yet... TLC does this to celebrate the opening of the first LEGO store in the Benelux, and has given all mayor toy sellers a permission to reduce the prices to - 25 % It's strange, however, that S@H isn't offering the same reduction (I,ve sent an e-mail to the customer service, asking for such an initiative. I will keep you informed about the response) So hurry to your stores as fast as you can. I don't suspect supplies to last long and a simular reduction coming again any time soon...

I had seen the first one on the internet, and found it both cool and cute. Also, the base diserves an honorable mention. The second one is just superb. The angled studs look great and all the curvy pieces make a great melting mess. Very good! I can't really tell, but is that really a large dish (8x8, I believe) trapped in that circle? Is it held there with the grill tiles? Very nice! I hope seeing more of these!
-
Wow, that's just amazing. First of all: the landscape. Very realistic and beautifully sculpted. Then the tower (only the first one!)... Stunning. The texture of the walls is marvelously executed, and I really like the black shadow creeping over it. Is there a reason why the windows in the dark part are the same color as the 'normal' windows? Maybe you could use some "smoke translucent" parts to get some extra contrast. I'm eagerly awaiting your updates!

Bullets in LDD
BEAVeR replied to tchuk-norst's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Have you considered parts like the lipstick-piece (93094) or M2 (63585)? Those are both small, and the lipstick is easy to attach. M2 is only attachable through its "micro-pin", but you could connect it to a normal stud if you use a piece like the Roman helmet (or basically every helmet that can be garnished with a plume). I hope this helps! -
Hello everyone, I'm back with an update! When I presented the first version of this MOC, most people had their concerns about the stability of the column. I found those doubts reasonable, so I revisited the model. Now, things should me much more stable . The spine consists of Technic axles, while some of the outermost tiles are connected to each other (in the height) to provide extra support. Tha magical part that made this all possible was the Technic bush with three axles (part nr. 57585). Since you have to turn ech piece 90 degrees in order to connect to twelve panels, it fits around the technic axle (unlike his predecessor which was set at 120 degrees). The connections are made with regular 1x1 cones (part nr. 4589b). [MOC] Corinthian column 1.1 exploded by Bert.VR, on Flickr Since I was revisiting this model anyway, I decided to rework the base as well. Now there are no more gaps and it looks much rounder . Finally, I changed the height of the column to get the proportions between the capital and the height right. This can be easily modified however. [MOC] Corinthian column 1.1 by Bert.VR, on Flickr All that's left to say is that the piece count (relative to the height) has dropped , making it more realistic to build (I've checked it: all parts are available for purchase. That's about the first time that happens! ). So thanks every one for the kind comments, and for pushing me further on this project. Now I'm really convinced a temple could be made IRL with these columns .
-
Hi, you've managed to make a very detailed and recognizable train MOC again! The front looks very neat, and I like the 'plough' at the underside. As for any improvements. You could replace the yellow tile between the two headlights with a grill tile to mimic he details as the numer etc. Maybe you could represent the NMBS logo on the side with a brick with technic hole? The black section on the side at the front is a bit blocky (pixelated?), but I don't think there's any suitable alternative solution, like with technic panels... The biggest thing that is missing, are of course all the technic details on the roof. I'm very impressed with you train MOCs, and if this is your first attempt at SNOT, I can't imagine where you'll end.
-
Great job! It seems LEGO is perfectly fit for this type of building. Those arches, columns and simple mosaics look excellent and appropriate. Of course the roof and the wall details diserve of course special mention. Overall fantastic MOC! But if it's a church, where's the cross? Otherwise, it could pass for a castle as well.
-
Fantastic! I've been trying to build something simular, but I couldn't fill all the gaps. Yours looks very sleek instead, and the curves are a great simplification of the human forms. The only section that could use some covering up, are the sides of the eyes (those look beautiful btw). The hair looks very flat, but I find that fitting for this MOC. I like the angled section there. So a very good build. One of the best realistic heads I've seen so far.
-
Normally, I'm not really into there war vehicles. But this one is just awesome. I love all the angles and details (like the shovels and the handles), and the mixture between studded and studless surfaces. Is it possible to fit a minifig in there? Well done!
