  1. Indeed the colors work very well together! The style also fits very well for a university! Hope to see more soon
  2. There are 9v tracks in "new" bluish grey, just much less than there are old grey.
  3. Hmm, that engine looks great, the colour makes it look special - and it does look good (and somehow royal) with this deep blue. I didn't even realize the missing smokestack at first, but that should be added. A steam engine without a smokestack isn't a steam engine As jtlan suggested, tick the "show outlines on bricks" button then you'll get a better image as well. You cold also render it with povray (but first you'd have to download it of course) Now I can't wait to see what this is going to look like
  4. So here are my models, I made the pics smaller to not spoil your thread entirely Here are most of the Thomas and friends models I designed, only the last two aren't my own work, but rather copied - I just wanted to include them to show you what is possible Some engines are based more on their TV-series model, others were based on their real-life counterpart, but I tried to make all look somehow realistic (I tried ) Here are engines 1-11 Here are some other engines I designed And two buses I made: The next 2 designs aren't my designs - they were both designed by Carl Greatrix, the lxf for the LNER A4 was once here on Eurobricks, and the Terrier is also his work, I just copied his engine into LDD (nearly 1:1)
  5. You have some great models and you're right that we have to celebrate this anniversary! I especially like Edward and James, which look more realistic than their TV-series counterparts. I myself have designed some Thomas engines some time ago and will improve them for this occasion. May I post my models in this thread as well?
  6. Thanks Thank you really much, I didn't expect something like that! That is some really constructive criticism telling me how to keep improving my work That's exactly what I need. I'll look into what I can do, I alread got some ideas for the windshield now
  7. Great work! Everything looks perfect, and I really like the stripework on the coach-doors. My only question is: will you add some details to the motor-bogie? It looks so plain without anything
  8. A brilliant looking harbor with some great equipment. Now you should only flood your room to let ships load and unload there
  9. You're doing some great work there, with good techniques to make this as realistic as possible! The angled windshield looks superb and I like it's smoothness Now I'm really interested to see how this keeps improving... if there is even space for improvement
  10. Lego Train 12 Volts: I really am amazed every time I see a model of yours, and this time it's not an exception! Your models always look so realistic because of the correct proportions (and I'm also a fan of 7-wide ) and great detail. Although I probably wouldn't do it myself I like how you always cover the battery box and receiver with stickers, as there wouldn't be a better solution to this problem on such small space. The only thing I have to criticize is, that the bogies on the prototype look abnormally tall, whereas the bogies of your model are much tinier. I think the bogies on this engine are such a distinctive feature that you should give it a shot to make them taller. Anyway I'm interested what you'll show us next
  11. Wow, you have some great cars there! I knew something like this would happen with the upcoming of the speed champions series You did great on every single car, they really do look nice!
  12. Wow, great! I wonder how many bricks you used? Probably more than I have in my whole collection
  13. Really cool, I like how the car looks just so realistic for a city-style car. The trailer looks great as well!
  14. You have a great collection there! I like the street in general, but every car itself looks very cool, I especially like the snot "Octan" logo, very creative!
  15. Well, here is my first moc built in real bricks: an Austin London Taxicab Austin London Taxicab by ScotNick1, on Flickr That is the prototype It is based on a 1934 London Taxi Cab made by Austin. I've really liked the dark blue and black livery, so I decided to build the taxi cab in this livery. However there are some design flaws, or let's call them compromises. I intended this car to be in minifig scale, and as I wanted them to enter and leave the taxi comfortably I used my dark blue doors, which made it longer than it's prototype. The silver horns on the side should imitate the mechanism that lets you fold the back of the car's roof So after some information here are some more pictures Oh, before I forget it, The roof of the passenger compartment can be taken off and the doors open rather smoothly. Hope you enjoyed it Cheers, Nick
  16. I assume the world city ones are bley/dark bluish grey and the other older ones are old dark grey. I think the change of the colour palette was sometime around 2002-2004, so all world city items should have the new colours (as far as I know).
  17. Whoa, haven't seen something like that in a long time. I really like your creations, especially the train shed and the elevating bridge, which just look amazing. Your train shed looks so much better than the one Lego produced, mainly because of the architectural details. The ferry remembers me of on I've been on and you just really got the shape and size of it. I really want to see more!!! BTW Falkenstadt sounds German, are you somehow related to it?
  18. Great build! I really like the angled front lights and how just everything fits perfectly. Brick on PastVPresent
  19. I think it's not the pieces that bend. The 1x4 technic bricks are just held together by connection pins and if you do that with multiple 1x4 technic bricks you can easily bend the whole structure.
  20. Agreed! But 1x3 and 2x3 plates also come in handy very often!
  21. Nice way of representing the angles! You didn't choose an easy engine and still are doing a great job. I'm interested to see what this will look like in the end!
  22. Looking great so far. Any other pictures? You might want to upload your pictures to a hosting site like flickr, so you can show more at once.
  23. Looks very promising! Great technique with the gutters! I'm eager to see more!
  24. Hmm, didn't the Cafê Corner have a Hotel sign? That might be an other reason they won't make one. A library sounds great too. I don't know if anyone has mentioned it before, but an embassy would be interesting. They could include a classy car (a better one than in the PC) and some interesting interior. What I'd like to see style-wise is a try on Gothic/Neo-Gothic or Victorian architecture.
  25. I'm sorry if I sounded rude, that wasn't my intention at all. I just wanted to share my opinion, which I formed considering many aspects - not only the look of the building. I'm probably one of the fewer here who looks at more aspects than only the look and playability of the building (that's also what the guys in the approval stage do - look at more than these two aspects). Therefore I want to share the aspects I consider: - price range/ parts count: Of course you can say TLC might try something new and make a big creation happen, but when you look at ALL the creations that made it to production you can see a straight line: they are at a price range of about $50, sometimes less but in no case more than that. Therefore you can conclude that a creation with considerably more than 1000 pieces won't be produced, as much as you want it to. - techniques/unique part usage : I know some of you have said they don't care about new/different techniques, but it's not the techniques themselves but the design you can archive with them (which makes something look interesting). - international appeal: that's a problem I realized just after submitting my creation which might be more important than one thinks. That's one reason many creations which require a license make it to 10,000 supporters easily. It's not only the fan base they have but the international popularity that make them interesting (not only for the supporters but also TLC, as their goal is to sell their product worldwide). As Barnes and Nobles only exists in the US (as far as I know) many Americans support or like it, but nobody in Europe or Asia has ever heard of it before. Just for the record the Barnes and Nobles building looks nice and everything (also fits with the rest of the modulars), but if you are realistic and consider the points written above the building won't be produced. I didn't consider all these points for my (first) Lego Ideas project, but if I'm true to myself I don't think my project will make it. But that doesn't mean I can't debate about an other project. Not every good looking design will make it to 10,000 and not every design that makes it to 10,000 does necessarily look good. You should guard your tongue! You haven't been here for a long time (or haven't said much) and already ridicule about other people's creations just because they criticize something you like. Believe me or not, but I have designed buildings as well as vehicles/engines. Some of them were better designs, some of them worse. Therefore I can reason from my experience and say that a building is much easier to design. For a building you have to design the facade and then you can design the interior INDEPENDENTLY from the exterior, whereas an engine/vehicle is harder as it has moving components which have to move freely, as well as other features crammed in a small place (e.g. articulation of the wheels, adding a motor, getting the curves right, ...) I think everyone who has designed a decent engine can agree that an engine (because of its moving components and the smaller space) is harder to build than a building. My engine isn't a redo of the Emerald Night, but a totally different design featuring the same colour (and same wheels of course). I'm not offended just wanted to state that here This discussion should be about ideas for modular buildings, so if everyone wants to debate about buildings vs. vehicles/engines we can start a new topic.
