Do engines at your home come from the conveyor belt, as we say in German? Anyway you did a great job again on this engine again! And I've realized it just now, but have you switched from 7 wide to 8 wide? And the next question: why? I'm just curious as I really like 7 wide My only criticism is that the driving wheels seem to be too far apart when comparing your model to the Marklin one. This results in the engine looking a little bit too long compared the original and also the cab roof seems like it's sitting too low, but that might just be my vision being flashed by the every-week-an-engine contest you started. As for the tender my only suggestion would be to put curved 1x4 parts upside down to create the 'Wannentender"-look. I did this on my engine, and also found a picture on my PC I want to show you to keep you in suspense regarding my engines Now, re-reading my post, I'm a bit ashamed of all that negativity in it, as you really did some great work on that engine! Again you packed very much detail in your engine, and I always get fascinated that you include lights. At last one question though: is the L motor in the engine powered by the caboose or is there a battery box in the tender?

Thanks, the only reason I haven't posted the engines I've built is that none of them are 100% done. But I'll take into account what you've said - one of my engines is only missing stickers so you might be able to see something soon ;)

Hi, nice to see a new moc from you!! First of all I totally have to agree with you about the wheel configuration -whatever is built up on a 4-4-2 it most definitely will look good I've been in love with this wheel arrangement for some time and plan to build my own 4-4-2, but a British one. Even though I'm normally not too fond of German steam I really love what you've created here.A shame she can't go on her own! The smokebox door is also a neat little detail

The kind of line you want to build surely is interesting. I don't know how much I can help you with that, but I've designed a Toby some time ago which incorporates all the parts for powering him with the newer system. Here is a picture if you're interested http://scotnick.deviantart.com/art/Toby-the-steam-tram-origninally-LNER-J70-485802196 Drop me a message if you're interested in the instructions.

Maybe because everyone's working ?! At least I hope everyone is right? It's a shame Lego didn't make a Creator Expert train this year. I got into Lego trains with the Emerald Night and although I've disassembled it I think it's one of the best trains as it had the potential to get others interested in trains as well. As I'm just making my own trains (I'm working on 6 engines right now) I don't really care if a new train is released as long as there still is a train range.

This is a great idea for a thread! I actually have quite some plans for 2016! As an Austrian I think we haven't seen many Austrian trains with Lego. To change that I'm planning to build the 1670 and 4041 class engines from the Austrian Federal Railway. I'm also planning to build one of the earliest Austrian steam engines, the so called 'Ajax'. In addition I plan to build an LBSCR E2 in blue and an Ivatt Atlantic. I'm excited to see everyone else's plans fulfilled and hope to build at least some of the engines plannes.

Thanks guys for your comments! I'm a little limited right now as I'm not at home during the week, but Im still glad you gave me some input where to start working. Yeah you're totally right! In fact I just realized that I didn't consider that aspect ina any moc I made. I'm glad you came up with that point! Thanks for the input you guys gave me, I'll work on it on the weekend. Cheers, Nick

Hi guys! Just recently I got the idea to build a small layout including a station with two platforms and a siding and shed. The town's is called Bricksby, named after.... I guess you know what As the town is just made up I also needed to build the station from imagination and some pics to get some ideas Here's the first pic: Bricksby Station by ScotNick1, on Flickr The taxi is Tim Gould's design, but I might build it as well. The engine is an Ivatt Atlantic and will transport passengers to Bricksby. I plan to build her in dark green as that is the closest colour to the real engine in my opinion. Here are some different views of the station (the white guy is just there to illustrate how a minifig fits in the whole scene) I hope you like it and am open to suggestions to improve the look. Especially the back side (street side) looks very plain to me and needs some rework but there are other ways to change the appearance as well. e.g. I tried add some white, but I think it looks worse like that: Cheers, Nick

Hi talos, This station truly looks wonderful! It has a nice tower, great interior and some neat design ideas. I've also been working on a modular train station lately, but I've realized that that's not as easy as it sounds. Even if your station looks wonderful as is one thing I'd still recommend is to modify it that it can be attached to other modular buildings.

Megabloks, LDD and Bricklink.
ScotNick replied to Redimus's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Neither I know how to add pieces to LDD, nor I think it is actually possible, but how about taking Lego parts that represent these pieces, add them to a group and after you think the model looks the thing just delete them for the actual brick count? -
That just looks so great!!! And I really love how you managed to capture the British style in the build / the boat, the house, just .... everything!

I'll surely do that once they are 100% done. As of yet I have come closer but the engines aren't yet ready to be shown Yeah, some of the Thomas stuff was really realistic, I think that actually is what fascinated many kids (including me). But I used pictures of real brake vans for reference to get everything right and they surely look better than my earlier version which can be seen in one of my first posts in this thread. The strings I used aren't more prototypical or anything than the normal strings, the normal ones just aren't available in LDD. I just though it would look better with those then with none I'll just say that the boiler is sloped less than half plate steps, but more to that in the soon coming thread for the engine to keep you interested And the pirate surely hasn't been cursing about the hook as he lost his head and legs before that - or never had them anyway I think I'm at a stage now where I as a young man have time to build/design but not enough money - later I probably won't have the time but the money. So let's use this time before I'll lack it

Great build, so many details and also my favorite scale - minifig scale Even if it doesn't move I'm sure it looks terrific on layouts!

Thanks guys! I'll update more often now. Well, not yet I guess. I've sent you a PM. Thanks, I actually see the lines as a challange I sadly don't have a layout (yet). But when I have some rolling stock I'll let my engines go around my LUG's layout. Sometime in the future I plan to build a layout though. Thanks I've sent you a PM.

Great work, I'm sure you put much effort in it!!

Hey guys! *blowing dust off the thread* My last post here was nearly a year ago! Although I haven't been very active here I still uploaded my pics on flickr every now and then. As some of you probably don't look on flickr too often I thought I'd show you what progress I made. I'll start with my revised rolling stock (which I redid just recently) Freight Rake by ScotNick1, on Flickr Larger images of these wagons can be found in the album Revised Rolling Stock I also designed a new diesel locomotive (actually my first try on a diesel) BR 07 Shunter by ScotNick1, on Flickr Also in the last year I had a try on some engines from my homeland: An Austrian 1670 class engine ÖBB train by ScotNick1, on Flickr I'm currently building this in real life but I only have a bad wip pic of it so I'll just add a link: LINK LINK2 Then there is the Austrian 4041 class engine which I'll build eventually: I also tried my hands on one of the earliest Austrian steam engines - the Ajax Ajax by ScotNick1, on Flickr As I know some of you will probably get sick of me just posting rendered pics here are pics of 2 engines which are nearly finished but not 100% First my KKSTB class 310 engine: The valve gear shown here is not the final version. In the end I plan to use Zephyr's rods. I also have a video of this one running if you're interested: And at last my first British loco built in bricks (not 100% done yet) Teaser by ScotNick1, on Flickr That's all for now, any suggestions? Should I update this thread more often? Cheers, Nick P.S.: I'll make threads for the engines in real bricks when they're 100% done :)

Oh, that looks like a great start! Clear the way for more realistic trains!!!
-
Hi Redimus, the coach looks wonderful!!! You've done some great work, I think the new coach is a big improvement compared to your old one! Especially the proportions seem to be much more realistic. One question though: Will you really let your Q class haul the Pullman coaches, or is there a more suitable engine planned for a Pullman train?
-
Great job! Although I don't like graffiti in general I think it gives your train a bump to more realism Will we see more from you anytime?
-
Wow such a great collection with with trains from so many countries!! Sadly the ICE didn't make it, but all the other trains seem to be in pretty good condition. Although they were made some years ago the amount of detail you put into those trains is stunning (even more when looking back at the available bricks at that time). So what are you gonna do with those models? Redesign them, leave them as they are, ...?

MOC: MEC 573 (EMD GP7, aka "Mr. Miller's Engine")
ScotNick replied to MaineBrickFan's topic in LEGO Train Tech
That's looking great!! I think many people who have been here for some time have learned a lot (including me). Your model really skyrocketed with all the additional details. The colour looks much better as well. Hope to see more from you!!- 16 replies

You're right that it isn't flex track, but it's not a custom mold either. If it was a custom mold there wouldn't be the Lego lettering on the studs. It's clearly the end of a Lego track cut away and connected to a 1x8 plate by 4 1x2 plates.
-
Those look like they are much too expensive. These rails are just flex tracks cut in half connected to a 1x8 plate, so nothing too special. All you need to make this yourself are some flex track, a saw and some spare plates.

Hm, I just got an idea: Next year, 2016, will mark 50 years of Lego trains. Although Lego already produced a train in 1965, it didn't have rails or a motor. The trains introduced in 1966 however had a motor and the blue rails. Maybe there is no train this year because Lego wants to produce an anniversary set for next year? I don't think that the recent Creator Expert trains sold badly, so that's the only explanation I have for now, hope this turns out to be true
