Technic General Discussion
Junpei replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Here are some pics: The little angled bar is just there because I couldn't find a 2L liftarm. The blue pins will be the shock absorber mounts. If you can't see in the picture, this is demonstrating its zero steer capability, I forgot to take a shot from above. Normal steering. I have to make a BL order of some stuff including u-joints, but you can see the 4 driveshafts, one for each independent function. Sorry for the picture quality. I hope I can integrate a gearbox on top of all of this. Also, I will probably be adding portal axles and new wheels in my BL order. Do 81.6 x 38R tires fit on portal axles? I doubt it... -

I know it's set up for independent or no suspension, but I succeeded in making a live axle with independent drive and steering on both wheels. It probably won't be a real crawler tho as it will have 8 driveshafts. I might have pics within the next hour, I'll add them to my post. -
Yes, they were planning to build some Boeing plane, but they never finished it and I guess they parted out the pieces to Lego retailers. I wish I had some of those, someone was lucky enough to get enough to build an awesome diner out of them, they are the perfect color. I have also seen pics of the airplane, I don't know where tho.

It's the receiving plate- in your case the floor. The side of a the plate that is the wall (between the studs) is strong enough to not get permanently damaged. However, the floor plate bends from the studs being pushed apart and can be permanently be damaged. I hope that made any sense at all.

Today I found this on Cuusoo: http://lego.cuusoo.com/ideas/view/49046 How awesome is that? It would open up so many possibilities, the first one that comes to my head is a differential gearbox! Maybe we can persuade TLG to just make this instead of waiting years for it to <possibly> get 10000 supporters, it's the best idea I've ever seen on Cuusoo.

Remnants ... from a Studded Era
Junpei replied to DrJB's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Back on topic, the annoying property of 8t gears to side into the grooves in bricks and liftarms is so you can fit an 8t gear between the studs in a technic plate. Tell me that's useful in studless building today. At least TLG updated the 8t gear. On the topic of studded building, I think lego should bring back studded building, more advanced this time. I just think studless building is kind of like K'nex, I don't think it's what Lego is meant to be. It is nice and I enjoy building with it,but I just like the old plates, 2x2 slopes, and Technic bricks IMO. -
Open wheel car

It looks awesome, is the front suspension pushrod? Also love the third version of the wheels, is that one of those discs from those old Bionicle sets?- 14 replies

Sorry to revive such an old topic, but... Has anyone ever done a zero steer crawler? I think I might try one as my first Technic MOC. -

I noticed that too, Lego still had the toothed 16t gears on the crappy mobile crane they came out with a while ago (the one with the balloon tires, I can't recall which one it is). -
It looks great, how sturdy is it? I agree with Mr. Man tho.

Error404, why are you bumping all these old topics? Oh well, I don't mind, I somehow missed his pickup truck. It's stunning, I love middle-scale builds.

Zblj is right, a 6L stop axle would be more logical, I've needed one of those many more times than a 5L one.

I agree with jantjeuh, sets like the F1 racer sets have a perfect blend of liftarms and technic bricks with a brick-built chasis. -

That offers about 1/2 to 3/4 studs of extension, I doubt it would be very useful in most cases. Although if you have 2 u-joint connected by a 3L axle, you can slide a driving ring on it, which actually really strengthens it. -
Really, 300+ views and no comments? I'm looking forward to your tracked MOC, it looks promising!

Nice find! It's new to me too, although it might just be like the nonexistent part on the Lego Education site...

Lego Removal Tools
Junpei replied to JM1971's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I use a small flathead screwdriver for everything, it can pry (almost) any two bricks apart and can even take apart impossible connections (like a 1x3 axle joiner in a 5x7 frame). -
Rolls-Royce Trent 1000
Junpei replied to paul_delahaye's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I know it had to have a metal frame, but how hard can it be to avoid impossible connections at that scale? I just consider that a big plastic engine IMO. That is truly impressive though, impossible connections or not.
