[LDD MOC] Custom BMW R100
Junpei replied to darsedz's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Wow, it looks great, much better than in LDD What happened to the rubber piece on the right? Great job, looking forward to your next MOC! -
Yeah, I've got tons of them. What experiment do you propose to do with the DB gears?

Generic Contest Discussion
Junpei replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
That is the best idea I've heard so far, Rumpletump! That is the perfect contest idea, I have no idea why I didn't think of that! And @Milan, I guess I agree, with builds like Paul Boratko's models, but I think some people might be a bit biased towards PF. -
Geez, calm down DrJB... I don't think the fact that the DB gears have less friction has to do with the plastic. I have built a gearbox that had sliding 20t gears because of decreased friction on the axles, I think it is so it is easier for kids to pull off the axles. I know it's different than what you're talking about, but I have one of the older 24t gears (with the 3 axle holders) permanently stuck to an axle, and I'm pretty sure it just has to do with the mold. I will note that the DB gears feel different, though, but not like nylon.

[MOC] 4x4 Lift Touring car
Junpei replied to Nike 2101's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I meant that the 3L liftarms only have one degree of freedom. So how can it twist without bending the pins? -
Simple Direction shifter.
Junpei replied to TechnicHead41's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
It looks good, however I would give the links two degrees of freedom on the inner side, I can see it is stressing the parts. -
[MOC] Skid Steer Loader
Junpei replied to imurvai's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
How did you make the skid steering so smooth? Are the right front and left rear controlled by one motor and the left front and right rear by the other? -

Do you think you'll actually be able to ride that? -

Not limiting that could cripple great builders with not enough PF... -

Great job! Makes me want to make a zero steer loader... -
Help with your MOC
Junpei replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I'm pretty sure it's a telescopic boom, I don't know what else it could be. I think you should just stick with the studded, but does that fit the size limits? -
[MOC] Rage Buggy
Junpei replied to JM1971's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
That's looking better! Although I think you should use 5L axles to secure the shocks, I think they might just fall off if they are on axle pins. -
[WIP] The Tank/Car Thingy
Junpei replied to Burf2000's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Yes, I think that is the general consensus. Do you have enough panels to build a roof? -
[MOC] Rage Buggy
Junpei replied to JM1971's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
It's simple, really. Just add caster, and everything works better. You're definitely going to break parts if you don't add a caster angle. I think if you can get that, you should go for 3:5 gearing, that will be much more fun. -

Yes, I support the roof too! I think it should definitely be manual, by levers near the seat, that's much more fun. Good luck! -

Junpei replied to JM1971's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Yes, at high speeds you always need a good caster angle. I too have those steering parts, they are this: http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=32195b, this: http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=x873c01. I have never used them as I would like to try to make more realistic suspensions, but it will be very strong, and perfect for something this size. However you may want to try to see if there is any way to avoid using it as they are hella expensive, especially if you're going to use them for all four wheels. -
Generic Contest Discussion
Junpei replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I would really like a non-PF flagship contest, as 1) I am limited to one M and one XL and 2) It would be much easier to integrate pneumatics and other stuff that is difficult to control with PF. -

I was just wondering, how do you get articulation in the front live axle? It looks like it only has 1 degree of freedom. -
[MOC] Rage Buggy
Junpei replied to JM1971's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
How about dual live axles with the stock lego live axle parts? That will be very robust and only requires 2 u-joint and 2 CV joints total, assuming you'll be using CV's for the steering. -
Ah yes, the two 24t gears powering the pump. I don't own a mog myself but I have heard many complaints about their teeth being ground up. Nothing to do with ungeared motors tho. I will probably be ordering one or two of them to do some tests.

I don't think the 3-pin arrangement will work very well, I was thinking the old gear block, but with pinholes arranged like on the front of the l-motor on both sides. That also means that you can keep the studs and anti-studs for system and train builds.

Simple AWS prototype

Looks great, I can't wait to see the video. Zero steer would be pretty much impossible, right?
