  1. The forum upgrade has altered the software, this means that old post content has to be translated into the new code. There is a script running to fix this, but it will take a little while. If the problem persists and new posts do not show pictures for you, come and let staff know.
  2. I did go looking for that, must have missed it.
  3. It looks like the upgrade has knocked that off. It used to be part of the list under your avatar and rank.
  4. I have done two solo events and am prepping for number three. Prior to that I did Brickworld 2014 with all the great EB crew. Now, I ended up displaying last year for the first time solo as my sister volunteered me. Our friend owns a Comic Book shop and he and some of his friends were putting on a Comic Con in a local event centre. They needed "attractions" and my sister is one of my biggest fans so she said I would bring LEGO models to show. After not keeling over from stress (I can be a little high strung) and having a lot of fun meeting fans and impressing the kids I agreed to return this year. This year was a lot easier for me and while I was there, an acquaintance introduced me to someone who runs a slightly bigger con as this guy wanted me to display at his event! The bonus for this, is I can dig out some of my stuff I showed last year as it will be a new audience! So, on to the advice part: It was helpful to me that I had experienced a public display as part of a team (members of which had displayed many times before) as it gave me an idea of what happens without all the stress of going solo. I was warned about grabby kids and adults who do not respect the request not to touch. I learned about putting the more rare figures and parts in the middle of the table (or back, if you have a wall). For the first solo display, my first day was hectic. The kids wanted to play and my MOCs were for display. On the second day I asked for a spare table and brought my "Monkey Box" this is actually a big mix of childhood clone brands, more recent purchases (for figure accessories) and anything I fish out of mixed lots from charity/garage sale buys. The bricks were still decent enough quality and variety that the kids could play happily, without the problem of losing the display. This year, I went right away with the box and a small street scene the kids could put together a superhero battle on. This was supervised to avoid losing any figures! So my main advice is: If it is not a wholly LEGO event, expect a lot of kids to think they can play with the bricks and bring something sacrificial for their amusement. Signs help, (No touching please / Display not Play etc and Play Well! for the things they can play with). Getting into an event while not part of a LUG is another thing entirely... I know a lot of LUGs are fortunate to have contacts and members who are involved with the right circles. Museums, Toy Shops/Comic Shops, Model Train conventions and such are places people mostly display. So, if you are not in a LUG and they are not local enough for you to join in, then try and check out local hobbyist places. Tabletop gaming, trains, comics; they all have gatherings somewhere a little larger than the store and you might get to meet someone who organises an event. Find something that is suited to your MOCs that is close enough to travel to. They will have a facebook page or website you can probably apply to be an exhibitor through.77 As kintobor said, they usually let people exhibit for free, as this attracts people in to go buy Give it a go, hope that works out!
  5. It has got to be at least a little hint to Jareth... The hairpiece used for the CMF 80s Rocker Grrrl and Glam Metal guy could be used, or an outfit... Designers know that fans love little nods like that. And in celebration: (but who needs an excuse greater than "goblin king" to share some Bowie eh?)
  6. I beg to differ.
  7. Oooooh, great use of the balloon sections as cowling to the gun. Colour scheme and a-symmetry are all so shiny! One year I might play SHIPtember. All you guys with your awesome builds...
  8. Here's a bit of a story: I keep my LEGO in the loft. Storage and build space. One day, I tripped and tipped a box of plain bricks (Just the old 2x4s) and some slipped down a hole at the corner. Long story short, the brick-cavity wall in my house now has LEGO in it. Not much and nothing rare, but amusing at least.
  9. Nah, we're too close to the end of the year, its time for 2017 news. I get it, you're miffed and getting sarcy, but could you keep it to riffing with buddies instead of trying to take a dig at people here? We all give up our free time to run this forum for fans and while, yeah, personalities can clash, we do our best to help and be friendly. While on the converse: keeping the site accessible for everyone.
  10. Yaaas. Goblins I am looking forward to see what we get in these new sets then. My sister will be pleased when I tell her.
  11. I really love your Aquazone revival builds. It is awesome that someone is keeping the yellow and trans-blue dream alive. Another great MOC.
  12. Special is the home of Duplo, I'm sure people would love to see a thread of your family's creations.
  13. Staff do not delete accounts or close them. Simply stop using your account.
  14. Are we going back to off topic complaining about Nexo Knights? I thought I had asked everyone to stop doing this enough in the 2016 thread months ago. There is a dedicated thread for this in Historic Themes. Please take all wailing and gnashing of teeth there. Thank you.
  15. Those are amazing. I love your Aquazone MOCs, it is good to have you back and see them again!
  16. Lovely build! I saw the video for Bastion as a Youtube ad (So good I avoided a skip) You've captured the look and the colours well and the mode switch looks just right too.
  17. I will be interested to see the shields and weapons. The second series of KK2 figures fully moulded shields have a few good applications and the weapons integrate well with Mecha MOCs.
  18. Loads of Castles in this neck of the woods. Caerphilly is one of my favourite daytrips, being only a short drive from home. I logged my support.
  19. I think what Phred meant was that a little use of the Forum Search would have turned up the older thread which you could have added to. As it is, he had put your thread and the old one together. We understand that some members have English as a second language, that is why we pass a few friendly reminders on. I think BrickHat did not mean offence there and I'm hoping you didn't either. Online communication loses something in tone and intent. We didn't need that either though, did we? Can we keep it friendly and keep in mind that not everyone speaks English as a first language? Thanks Guys and Gals
  20. Looks like blackcurrant. Anyway: Can we get on actual topic right? We can all throw out abuse for what we don't like, but that doesn't belong here.
  21. That hurts my head LEGO as a company will not fail despite regular (In your opinion) design failings. Right? So, I have read a lot of the thread (and the repetitions. Woo Dejavu) and the amusing thing is mostly the repeating of the same old arguments I can safely say were spoken for decades. Large prefab parts? They have been around since the 80s Possibly longer. Colours? Greys and Greens were banned originally so kids couldn't play war and they arrived in time. Cash Grab? Star Wars was the cash grab, Bionicle was a cash grab. TLG is a company, not a saint. They run on money and everything is an attempt to grab part of the market and money! Planned obsolescence is nonsense in LEGO though, not many other companies wants their 40 year old product to still work with their current. Yeah, I still use my fifteen year old walkman, but it plays CDs. I am on my fourth MP4 player. My laptop lags behind after about three years and I pick up a new one, my DSi is pointless for many games I want to play. My year old phone is bugging me as I have a year to wait on a new one and the latest bells and whistles. The PS2 is gathering dust and the Xbox360 is following fast. But I still use bricks bought for me in 1993. I have hand-me-downs from the 80s and I use them in my builds. LEGO will last as long as society lasts!
  22. We have to recall too, that they needed to fill the Book of Monsters with things that while interesting, wouldn't risk the near-future product line.
  23. Teardown sets and MOCs! All they'll do is gather dust when kept together. Okay, so keep the ones you really love (For me it is the Agents Mobile Command Centre), but if you really want to MOC you have to be brutal. Also, I'm not sure if they sell like this in your locality, but some supermarkets sell "damaged box" (IE, someone pinched something) pretty cheaply and you can grab parts. But yeah, PaB is good too.
  24. I might be mixed up, but I thought they may have come in some Friends sets? Possibly the small ones that were stuck to the magazines. Then again, I am yet to finish the first coffee of the day and could be talking nonsense.
  25. Love them! A nice army of monsters that follows the theme perfectly.
