Revisiting old topics (Bumping)
Peppermint_M replied to Tom_castlefan's topic in Forum Information and Help
Hello new member! Please familiarise yourself with our rules and guidelines, we have a standing request for correct capitalisation. The request to not bump old threads is actually to help all our members see the new threads instead of losing them amongst years-old topics that someone has returned to the top page for a simple "Cool Moc!1!11!XD". If everyone was posting in threads that are old then the new are lost and members lose interest. Also, with some threads, the OP no longer uses the site, so a comment won't be seen or noticed anyway. A third issue is spamming around posting in very old threads simply to increase post count. This is suspicious as a number of features are unlocked at certain post levels, so someone dropping insubstantial posts in older threads looks to be someone wishing to access forum features quickly which most often means abuse/misuse of the website. I hope this makes sense and you enjoy using the forum for a long time to come. -
Ninjago Land has some great sculpture to check out and the ride is pretty fun. The other attractions are just as amusing to try out. The Polar Coaster is a great ride and the Laser Raiders game/ride is stuffed with Adventurers! We also found great amusement on the train, the pirate boats and the haunted house. There are a lot of good models to look at and if you have plenty of time, there are a number of 4D movies that are pretty entertaining.

2016: A Disappointing Year?
Peppermint_M replied to Sir Brickalot's topic in General LEGO Discussion
It is rather amusing that the prevailing opinion seems to be that TLG are purposefully designing themes and sets to antagonise certain factions of the AFOL community. -
Time to power up to 1.21 gigawatts, hit that 88mph mark and lets go Back to the Future! Far out man. The official LEGO set blurb from the Shop@Home website says: Now on to the review. The box, like all the other dimensions sets, is more of a swing tag carton kind of thing. The level packs have an extra fold of cardboard on the front that creates a tab to add a little extra front space. This advertises the fact that the Level Pack unlocks a whole new game level. Displayed quite nicely are the character and the two vehicles, both iconic to Back to the Future. The side graphic, the trapezoid design of the carton makes the sides pretty hard to capture well on camera, the angle causes all sorts of issues! Though the unusual shape makes it stand out on the rails in shops. Here, like all the other boxes, there is a picture of the character with some action going on. The back of the box show cases the three in one nature of the vehicles. A little picture of each "mode" and an in-game shot of them in action. We also get the Dimensions graphic and the regular blurb and ratings information that is legally required. Inside the box are two polybags and the most pointless instruction manual you ever did see. The booklet only shows you how to build your minifigure and then directs you on to the game. Of course, this is part of the nature, the point, of LEGO Dimensions. Building real LEGO that then plays onscreen is what sets the game apart from other toy/gaming products. This does make it a little frustrating if you see the mini set and characters as display pieces and a nice gift for a Back to the Future fan. Though it is not impossible to track down the instructions online. Marty We've got the many layers that makes a Marty outift and the nifty printed game tag. I love the use of the Back to the Future font for his name. This is the same figure as the one that appeared in 21103 The DeLorian Time Machine, now with the guitar, unprinted. It is listed as a new part in Bricklink, but it looks a little like a number of other guitars that have appeared in varied printed designs. A decent way for a collector to pick up a Marty figure if they missed the limited set. Though, like all Dimensions, pricey from a purely bricks point of view. Here from the official LEGO Dimensions youtube channel: The character video for Marty. DeLorean Time Machine This one has a snazzy mini-kit style design with moving gull-wing doors. A very clever use of parts and great for display. Electric Time Machine The Electric Time Machine, it's electric! With the usual re-jigging of parts used to make the original flavour time machine, this one is a lot more sparkly with the trans-lite-blue parts. Like in a lot of LEGO games, lightning/electrical powers are needed to neutralise or power-up obstacles and puzzles in game. Ultimate Time Machine The Ultimate Time Machine: Roads? Where we're going, we don't need roads! The flying DeLorean (and many other flying cars) are the second most desired dohicky that featured in the far off year of 2015 in Back to the Future part Two. Again, kudos to the designers for making such a tidy little model using all the parts in two other builds. A neat looking car, matching the look from the movie at this scale. It is honestly competing with the original flavour DeLorean Time Machine for the spot of display vehicle. Hoverboard It is 2016, we have a hoverboard. Okay, so it is a LEGO one and it only hovers if we swoosh, but still. Hoverboard! The most desirable part being the actual hoverboard piece. The correct shape, colour and print (barring the rival toymaker's logo!) this was what was sorely missing from the original minifig scaled DeLorean set. Of course, it has a lot of extra "goings on" to fulfil the three vehicle mode requirement. They aren't too bad in this "mode" but still a little odd considering the sleek appearance of an "actual" hoverboard in the film. Ultimate Hover Jet - Now this one is the nicer of the designs if you're planning on keeping the hoveboard with all the extras. Though it looks like this is a board tooled up for a trans-atlantic flight instead of future style skateboard shenanigans. The Cyclone board for whirl-ey cyclone-ey powerups. This design is one of the more odd. I also feel like the clip arm should be holding something, so kept on searching in case there was something missing! Well, again a great set for the big Back to the Future fan in your life. Everyone loves a LEGO figure of a character they like and the mini-kit style DeLorean is an excellent design with two equally great alternates to build. A printed hoverboard is great fun for collectors and fans alike. Game wise, it is more of the same for a LEGO Game. With the gimmicks brought in by Dimensions and the game pad. Thanks to TLG and Eurobricks for providing me these sets to play with! Sorry it takes so long for me to play them!

[CONTEST] LEGO Architecture - Local Landmarks
Peppermint_M replied to Peppermint_M's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I'm asking for something close to you. That can count as something favourite in your "Local" City, it could be a location in the area you live in or some structure you see near your work (Like my example build). If you are really stuck for something, a "national" location could be chosen but I would prefer something you see in person on at least a semi-regular basis or that is iconic of your locality.- 33 replies

[CONTEST] LEGO Architecture - Local Landmarks
Peppermint_M replied to Peppermint_M's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I sat out on the lawn to eat my lunch with it in full view just today . I have little scratch plans to try to make a working Technic version, that bridge has fascinated me since I was a little 'un. If you approach it from an architectural point instead of trying to make any sort of moral/political/religious presentation then it should be okay. After all, many towns have a cathedral or church as their best known landmark (Take Canterbury for example...).- 33 replies

Well, some shops have some new sets, others don't. The frustrating thing is, the one with the best deals and prices is the one without new sets! I have to hang around and maybe grab a few deals when clearance comes around, then perhaps grab some new sets. I know I can pretty much get the books for about half retail price if I hang on a little though. So that's nice.

LEGO Architecture is an interesting and attractive collection of sets. From the Sears Tower to the Burj Khalifa, many internationally famous buildings have been recreated in a pleasing LEGO form. These world-renowned buildings are special of course, some of us are fortunate enough to live close by. But what about our local landmarks? The structures we are familiar with and enjoy spotting. The building we see and know we're nearly home? Those special things that set our town apart from the next one over? So we at Eurobricks have decided to launch a building contest to recreate a place, building or other structure in LEGO Architecture style. With a number of wonderful prizes generously donated by The LEGO Group. To enter you need to build a local landmark within the design aesthetic of LEGO Architecture and post a picture of your creation next to a photo of the local landmark. Here's my Example; The Newport Transporter Bridge, a landmark in South Wales that is actually just at the end of the street I work on! You don't need to add the labels, I was fortunate to have some printed up for me. There are a few more rules to follow: The Rules Entries must be posted by midnight GMT, July 3rd. One entry per member. Entries must be similar in size to an official release LEGO Architecture set. Entries should be new (never posted anywhere previously) and be similar in style to the previous official TLG releases. All entries are to include only real LEGO. No clone brands, 3rd party parts, or digital entries allowed. Decals will be allowed if you've made them yourself, but no cutting, sculpting or modifying parts. Entries are to be placed in their own entry topic in the Special Themes forum. The title of the topic should begin with "[Local Landmark]" and then give the name of the entry. The entry post (first post in your entry topic) may be edited at any time up to the end of the contest, so feel free to make improvements if you wish. Entries are to consist of no more than 5 posted pictures of 1024x768 pixels or smaller resolution but may also include a link to a folder of additional images of any size. The first picture will be used for your entry in the voting thread. Entries require at least One photo of the real landmark that can be compared to the entry, no more than 1024x768 pixels. This is not counted in the total pictures rule set above. Get a picture from the internet, take your own or find one somehow, but there has to be one. Photos of your creation can be manipulated with Photoshop for levels, proportions and color correction but may not include graphic enhancements. We reserve the right to disqualify any entry that does not follow these rules. Winners will be decided by public vote. The Prizes 1st place will receive #21028 New York 2nd place will receive #21031 Burj Khalifa So build and enjoy!

What would you use as a minifigure wargame base?
Peppermint_M replied to the fixer's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I'll second MAB's suggestion. You can also add décor and such around the jumper plates to make them more interesting. -
2016: A Disappointing Year?
Peppermint_M replied to Sir Brickalot's topic in General LEGO Discussion
2016 has already delivered some of the best city and Action themes yet. Elves has only gotten better, Ninjago is still going strong and Nexo Knights has been fun. CMFs are brilliant and better to come. City has got a great mini-theme in Explorers and the interestingly diverse city people set looks great. Meanwhile, Creator, Friends and Mixels have been great for parts and designs too. 2016 has been better than average and its going to carry on. -
Or you could go the Robot Chicken route and make Star Wars parodies of well known adverts. That always adds the extra hint of humour that LEGO puts in for the games and animations.

Help with identifying parts/sets!
Peppermint_M replied to WhiteFang's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Well, you've got the best part of a Sarlacc in there, so you could take a gamble and buy if it is a reasonable price. That rock warrior figure looks non LEGO, the baseplate bears more inspection, and I second the questions over the excavator arm/bucket and the balloon tyre. However, most of it looks LEGO and Star Wars at that. -
Have LEGO products become more violent?
Peppermint_M replied to bartneck's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Now those would count as 1x2 Shooters right? Not quite a 6! This is the same as the violent and angry faces debate from a few years(?) ago. Well the catalogue analysis bit anyway. To give the gist: Faces of LEGO figures were rated by a Mechanical Turk service (Volunteers online rating photos on a scale) and the data compiled to say that faces were more angry. The issue there was one man's angry face is another man's determined, so that data fell flat. About all you can say about LEGO catalogues these days over the older ones: As with all advertising copy, things are more Dynamic. Instead of the old days of a handful of kids and some LEGO sets being played with (pictures of kids now raising all sorts of other issues these days). The modern catalogue has the action depicted. Anyway, yeah, there is more VS roleplay, but that is not encouraging violence but instead teaching children how to deal with conflict situations. Also, they are far more likely to be taking cues from the media they consume when creating a story than with what the medium they are using might suggest. I would theorise that even with a blank and formless "Minifigure" a child would still make a game of cops and robbers. -
Lego Ninjago 2016
Peppermint_M replied to LegendsOfNinjago's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
Could you resize those images? They're over the image size limit here on EB. I've got pretty good bandwidth and they were taking a while to load and compress! There are plenty of links in the FAQ that can help. Thanks -
Got a 30371 Knight's Cycle with the paper yesterday. It's a great army builder if you can get a few.

Lego Ninjago 2016
Peppermint_M replied to LegendsOfNinjago's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
As Ninjago is core, it wouldn't be unbelievable to make a new team or story. Power Rangers has been going for decades on a similar principal of one franchise many themes and teams. -

I can see someone has been mumping free food too! The question is: Now that you have made a Nobby, do we get a Betti too?
